I can't even begin to put into words how happy I am about this upload. About an hour ago, some extended family members that I haven't seen for years, who have been pieces of s**t in the past, "Blessed" me with their presence, uninvited, and with no warning. As Brandon Tenold said in his review of this movie years ago, Italian horror and sci-fi are more about fast pacing with interesting visuals/atmosphere than a coherent script or plot which can make perfect "turn off your brain and enjoy" popcorn flicks.

My understanding of budget Italian films is that they just type the script up in whatever language is native to the talent and let them speak in their native tongue/via their lines. And then it's all dubbed into English. So, often the actors don't understand one another as they are speaking different languages. And this gives us the fantastic acting and dubbing that we love in Italian B movies.
@johnafirth
@johnafirth 9 месяцев назад
Hong Kong films used to be done in a similar fashion. Wasn't unheard of for the western actors to just be counting instead of having actual dialogue, as the films were all dubbed into Cantonese and whatever foreign languages were required later on.
@JasonBrant

It's a true surprise these are incomprehensible plots.
@yohei72
@yohei72 6 месяцев назад
A key aspect of this (in both Italy and Hong Kong) is that the movies were shot silent, which makes production faster and cheaper and the movies easier to dub later. Not sure how much this is done in Italy anymore, but I know in HK that hasn't been standard for 20-odd years.

"Chekhov's Gun" is what he was possibly thinking of. People confuse the original meaning of Chekhov's Gun, but it is more about not focusing on superfluous details that won't pay off by the end, not making sure to foreshadow something you use by the end. Both are important and related, though. And I gotta say I chuckled when I was typing this and then noticed your avatar is original Trek related and I'm writing about a "Chekov."

This was '85 and movies were being banned or put on lists in many countries: " video nasties", satanic panic etc..Silent Night, deadly night was pulled off movie theatres just a year before. And here comes this movie, making fun of it and delivering great gore, some awesome scenes and a great score. Not my favourite movie, but a freaking enjoyable one.

Claudio Simonetti did the soundtrack for this movie. Italian gialo and horror films from this era have some amazing soundtracks. Simonetti was in the band Goblin, who if you haven't listened to you really should check them out. Goblin did a lot of famous soundtracks to horror movies. Also, Geretta Geretta (Rick James) who played Rosemary in Demons is in one of the In Search of Darkness (I think) documentaries. Mony Mony was originally a hit for Tommy James And The Shondells, it hit #1 in 1967. James wrote the song. He was sitting in his small Manhattan cubicle where he wrote songs. The movie is over the top and has some amazing gore to it. It's a legit good movie. Not sure if it is in the "so bad it is good" type of film. It's a good film that goes overboard at the end. A good flick for sure. Now.....if you want a Lamberto Bava film that is more bad but still kinda good, look up Monster Shark. It's a monster film that is basically an 80's version of Sharktopus. Although this thing looks like Dunkleosteus with octopus arms. And apparently it has a dolphin brain to make it smart. In the movie one of the actors says "imagine a creature that is half shark, half octopus, and half dolphin.".........that is 3 halves there doc!!!

Dario Argento is a legend. He had some bad lows admittedly, but his movies are generally good. He always refused to use modern special effects in favour of practicles realized by artists he knew which made some of his movie even creepier (while some others that were SBIG as a baseline looked even more comical). Deep Red (not sure that's the English title, I just translated literally) is unironically a great movie. If you watch that, it's hard to believe is the same director. PS Yes, it was filmed in Germany because at the time most European movies which aimed at foreign markets were co-produced with Germans. The Spaghetti Westerns were also all co-produced with German studios. PPS I'm not usre about it, but one of the guys in the car looked like Dario Argento, so I suspect those scenes were just there to give screen time to a relative.

The thing Brian is asking for is called Chekov's Gun. It's this idea that you do not devote resources to showing or saying something if it's not going to be used in the narrative. The example from which it gets its name is a gun hanging over a mantle. You do not draw attention to that gun if it is not going to serve some kind of purpose in the story either played straight, a red herring, or some other kind of subversion.

You know why Eighties music kicks ass? It's that "cha-cha-cha-cha" drum machine handclaps sound, that's why.

4:49 'NOSTRADAMUS...Yeah, Top of the Pops in 1500'. Nostradamus was AMERIGO VESPUCCI, sports fans: YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST! 17:27 Someone is showing off their 'Thriller' video vocabulary... 18:58 Erin's T: 'Are YOU...a GOD?' 😁😅🤣😂Classic. This tuneage really should have been included in their soundtrack line-up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L21mYN9mFP4.html 23:28 Brian: 'The R.O.T.O.R....!' You missed a golden moment in the editing suite, Brant. :D

Watching this triggered a memory for me. I've seen this movie as a child. I miss 80s/early 90s late night TV.

Erin's jhoke was overlooked the first time and slapped down the second time but it was perfect 😂"Shes not a Nazi". In reference to the greatest line ever spoken by grizzly Adams. "what are you some kind of Nazi or something, is that elf yours!?" 😂

Frickin' great mov! Saw it on vhs. When you see italian guy named Urbano Barberini playing american reluctant hero who slashes demons in a movie theater with picked-up katana while riding a bike with a beautiful chick sitting behind, you know that this is the essence of awesomeness 😂 God, i love those 80s italian exploitation movies.

Grappling hooks are very useful.. for example.. what if you are one night mistaken for a homeless man and nearly set on fire and another homeless guy saves you, and it later turns out he has demonic knights chasing him and he wants you to steal the Holy Grail from a tower? What are you gonna do with no grappling hook?

Fun Fact: I was curious and found a site selling grapple hooks specifically for helicopters. The company is called Lift-It and they sell various rigging for helicopters like cargo nets and rescue equipment. Sadly, I didn't see any grapple guns.
