I had completely forgotten about this. My amiibo was one of the ones that was stolen, and it was surreal hearing that the entire lorry had just been taken. I remembering cancelling my order, but I still have the bundle and squid amiibo, though idk which website I got it from

I was somebody affected! Only found out when I came to pick it up with my Mum. We weren’t offered the other Splatoon amiibo for free, though, but we did get the discount.

At the time, I was a kid (I live in the UK) and I walked into a local game shop one day after the news of the robbery was out there and they had one single 3 pack of splatoon amiibo. I assume they imported it and I reserved it immediately, ended up having to wait until christmas after begging my family but that amiibo became the most important part of my collection. Still have it.

Honestly, if I was more cynically inclined, this whole thing sounds like Game and Nintendo partnered up to reap extra profits from the 'stolen' amiibos. 'We can't/won't make more.' 'You're being downgraded, free of charge.' Someone steals an ENTIRE truck, but no one can do anything? This whole thing reeks.

The only person who could've stolen the whole lorry would be the driver. It doesn't make sense for someone to somehow get in and kill the driver. On the other hand if the driver was killed or found injured then how did they do it? It takes a large amount of skill to commit a crime like this without getting caught.

I remember when that happened and, after then, the squid was released individually in the UK and that was when I got mine. I’m pretty sure the one I own wasn’t one of the stolen ones because that incident happened in May and I got mine from Argos in November along with my Wii U and Splatoon.

I'm a UK citizen and I own one of the Inkling Squid amiibo. I think I got mine in the Splatoon amiibo bundle, though- not separately, so I doubt it was one of the stolen ones.

4:32 That's so stupid. Amiibos are plastic figurines of medium quality with NFC chips in them. Nintendo's general reticence to manufacture enough amiibo to keep up with demand is why the amiibo resale market is so insane. If the truck wasn't insured, at least by Game possibly by Nintendo as well, that's another stupidity. What should have happened is that people with pre-orders for the bundle had the option to recieve a normal copy of Splatoon, an £8 refund, and some kind of coupon for the inconvenience, or get to wait for a few months for Game to get their replacement squids.

I think fans like these amiibo things, might catch on. might become a big deal, might become part of every collectors collection. Maybe, who knows 😉 Great video Thomas, really enjoyed this one!

Fun fact, I was one of the people who pre-ordered the bundle and yeah... it stung. However, I did eventually find one for sale at a cex store on my way home from work a few months later. So at least my money was given to a retail store and not a theif. Still have all the splatoon amiibi to this day.

I got my squid from a second hand game store in the uk. Never occurred to me it might be a product of a heist. It’s honestly funnier to me if I imagine that the robber got the wrong lorry and the target was something much more valuable. Like they open the back expecting diamonds just to be met with thousands of unblinking squid eyes. (I could be imagining it but I think I saw a newspaper article about the heist but I could be wrong)

I actually have one of these and bought it before the robbery and am glad it arrived before the robbery

It's not actually true that the thief was the only person with copies of that bundle. The Nintendo UK Store also had pre-orders for the bundle, and from what I know, they were able to get what stock they had reserved to customers (personally I ordered the standard edition from the Nintendo UK Store and got the amiibos later down the line, but I know friends who got hit by the theft and others who didn't, due to ordering elsewhere).

I mean, i would probably expect the replacement is like A Wii U+1-2 random amiibos and the game, not just a disc.

I don't understand how they wouldn't have been able to find this dude unless he mission impossible this crap! Why couldn't they have asked the driver what happened and then ask the company what the truck number was. Then look through files of where that truck had gone through or stopped by. Maybe they'd have to do some detective sleuthing after that but they'd have to had narrowed in by that point.

I remember GAME cancelling my pre order with that email. I just ordered it on the Nintendo UK shop and got it no problem.

ahh I remember the Amiibo craze of 2015. Now they're just dead and you can't find the ones you want brand new at a decent price so you have to resort to used amiibos on Ebay in a terrible state and at 5 times the original price

I was lucky enough to find a Squid amiibo in 2016 on its own in a Game store, and since purchasing it, I have not used at much at all.

Good story , I had no idea about that. I got my squid in Asda or Tesco, in its own box, not as a bundle.... So at some point stock was available in the uk... this was as they were stopping selling the wiiu.

We went to the store to purchase a squid Amiibo, I remember the Fred Meyer member explaining to me what happened to the shipment, we had to wait a couple months to get the Amiibo and it sucked going to Fred Meyers and not seeing it.

At least Nintendo restocked the squid amiibo itself. And I bought it on sale for half the price

I got an orange squid amiibo from japan for my birthday, I named him Inky, and I'm glad I got a squid amiibo because the kraken levels in Splatoon 1 were really fun
