The story would be improved by making the girl’s ultimate fate obvious much sooner. Without knowing that, the humans sound like freaking Romulans on the hunt for a convenient cassus belli.
Umm… no child killed in this story. A little girl gets knocked down and has a boo boo on her knee. Story has to be a seriously cut down version of a longer story.
