17:45 what people don't realize is that time travel is not traveling to a previous point on the linear line of time. Time travel is travel to a parallel universe that is not at the same time as the one you are leaving. We might need to find some sort of physical phenomenon that allows us to do this accurately, as one wrong number is the difference from seeing your old self tomorrow or being left in a vaccuum after travel. Some way to preserve information about the traveler, send that information as a packet, then de-code and re-assemble at the destination. Compression is a bad idea as it would damage the DNA of the traveler.
FINALLY, after all these years a serious look at a term that has fascinated me ever since I first read the word, tachyon! Have been reading science fiction almost as soon as I learned to read (I exaggerate, of course). So, if at first it takes infinite energy to have tachyons, wasn't there infinite energy anyway at the beginning? One last thing, since all particles seem to have anti particles, maybe tachyons have also? Love your stuff, and so, Live Long and Prosper!
Personally. I think there wouldn't be any kind of problem, if we can somehow learn to go FTL. The only thing that would have to be adjusted would be how we measure time. I doubt the Universe cares if a few monkeys manage to zip about faster than nature intended in one little area of an insignificant galaxy. Just like it doesn't care whether we can understand it, or think it's fair or not. 🙂
