Here's the issue with families being divided over politics. I face this in my own family, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law are Lefties. We don't talk politics. But here's the thing. I don't hate them. The Right does not hate their Lefty family members, but the Lefties HATE their Righty family members. The Right disagree and the Left takes disagreement as hate.
