Just fyi, for those who don't already know, this single and especially this album (despite it being RV's first full album) set a whole new standard for Kpop as a whole when it was realeased. Red Velvet have always been a favorite of critics in that they'll rave about their good music when they come out with something good and you'll never hear the end of it when they release with something crazy. But Dumb Dumb and The Red off the bat was a masterpiece and to this day it's been referenced in so many of their reviews, even when reviewing different idols' work. Even the MV was revolutionary. After this MV, you'll see similar styles in other groups' MVs here and there. It's why composers, photographers, choreographers, directors want to work with RV. They'll never run out of love-calls after working with them. Ever heard of BSH discovering BTS's MV director aftet he watched RV's Ice Cream Cake? Or Twice, Loona etc working with RV's long-time composers?

I'm really excited that you are check out Red Velvet. They are amazing! So, they have two sides (red: funny, bubbly, hyped and velvet: more mature, dark, more r&bish) but all of their music is really interesting since it will always have something unexpected or crazy going on, not only in the theme but in the music itself (their production is really out of the box), not to mention they are incredibly talented. Also, there was another release from Irene & Seulgi sub-unit called Naughty. It has an insane choreography!

Not much reason to overthink the imagery, but a very quick surface level connection to make is that the first line of the first two choruses goes "like a mannequin!" in reference to how they freeze up and get stilted and awkward around their crush, which is why the song is titled "dumb dumb". Mannequins are just big dolls, so yeah, doll factory. They also do the robot dance when the third chorus goes "like my little brother's robot (toy)" to vary up the rep for all that is stiff and stilted.
