@thereluctantoutdoorsman This is Part 2 of a video where Paddy the cockapoo and I go for a walk around St. Helier, Jersey to view the vast area of town that has been demolished and to see how the new developments are taking shape. If you haven't seen St. Helier lately you will not believe how much has changed!

Very good video, missed a few things like the Burtons building and also the building site in Broad Street, but very good filming, not easy with a dog on a lead!

Hi John, yes a total mess at the moment but maybe it will look smart when it's all finished! You are right about millions being spent........obviously that is a good thing rather than let the place slip into gradual decline! AND we need housing 🏘️🏚️🏠🏡badly on the island! Oh and yes, the subscribers are creeping up! ⬆️👍🥳 Cheers mate!

Thanks for this Tom as it’s been an eye opener. I did recognize some familiar shops that are still in business, but on this video some parts are unrecognizable. The old Ann st site plenty of room for probably building more apartments and it seems they want to have everyone living in town. On the other hand I suppose apartments are more affordable than houses and it stops building on green areas. My wife is Jersey born and she couldn’t believe the change in town and didn’t like what she saw but if that’s the way the Jersey states has to solve a housing problem so be it. Cheers Tom and lovely Paddy.

Hi Nic, I was shocked myself as I hadn't realized the extent of it. We moved out of town about 5 years ago. Housing is a real problem on the island, so flats are I suppose the only way to go.......look at my old stomping ground (Hong Kong) you can count the number of houses there on one hand! Mind you....the cost of flats on the island is pretty steep....................nothing like Hong Kong prices though. When I used to still work and colleagues complained about housing prices in Jersey I used to delight in pulling up flats for sale in Kowloon and getting them to guess the price. They were normally out by about £2,000,000!!!!!! There are another couple of large areas in town that have been completely demolished - an area between Broad street and Commercial Street and the Gas Place / Co-op Grande Marche sites. I have never seen change before on the island at this pace! But I suppose that's life. Thanks so much for your continued support!

Good afternoon, Tom and Paddy. Just watched video number two a walk around Saint Helier I do realize Tom, that you have too very your videos from time to time. Unfortunately, the concrete jungle is definitely not for me. I much prefer your countryside walks really looking forward to the back lanes of the Jersey countryside. Again, hopefully it will not be long before we are back letting our imagination run wild about finding our way home once again..Take care, stay safe, keep warm.👍🙏👋❤️.Looking forward to our next adventure 👣👨‍🌾🥾🌳🌲🪵🧗‍♀️🚜⛰️🏝️

Hi Russell, I don't blame you at all and thanks for the feedback! 😁 Don't worry, as soon as we get some decent weather I am going to be back out in the countryside or on the coast! The St. Helier videos seem to get more views overall though.....so I'm afraid they'll keep popping up from time to time! Thanks for your support of the channel though.......it is much appreciated! 👍

Hi Tom & paddy, can't belive all the demolition & building that's going on!! Has Mary Anne brewery finished altogeth? & what about Randells? When you mentioned the window pool at the Mayfair, reminded me off Butlins Filey Yorkshire, they had the same but it was surrounded by a coffee lounge lol, used to put gogles on n go wave to my mum lol, see that Ravoli jewllers is still there, bought a rotary gold watch from there for £ 299. 99 in 82 & still have it, keep thinking of a weekend in St Helier but people have told me I won't like it!! It's not the same, what a shame I loved my time on the Rock, I have been back in 88 & 93 with my daughter., well looking forward to the next chapter, have a good day.

Hi June, yes it is very different from a few years back. I think the going out culture has changed massively. I don't think young people party in the same way we did 40 years ago! For a start........who had heard of pre's or pre-loading, where people drink at home and only go out when they are tanked up? This is what younger people do in Jersey now, because they can't afford to drink out all night like we used to do! This has obviously killed a lot of bars and clubs profitability. Year after year of increased taxes on alcohol have now reached the stage where the entertainment industry is shrinking on the island. I heard on Jersey radio a club manager say that Jersey has the worst nightlife in Europe! I'm not sure he was right.....you try walking around some towns in France at night and try to find somewhere open for a drink........you may be disappointed (but again, their drinking culture is different!). When you think back to what Jersey was like.....it was a real party island. I think that ship has sailed!

@@thereluctantoutdoorsman ohh yes we had a great time didn't we, young & foolish, but I'd do it all again best 2yrs of my life, 25 when I left, used to have a nip of whisky in my morning coffee to bring me round lol, think I was on the verge of becoming an alcoholic, the booze was half price to mainland & the cigs too. Good times I often remanisce, & laugh.... Till next time.

Hiya Tom what a shame to see the Mayfair Hotel demolished , stayed there a couple of times and it was ok . Is this due to lack of tourism to Jersey ? great walk as always.👋👋

Hi Lloyd, yeh I think the drop in tourist numbers would definitely have had something to do with it. There has been a massive list of hotel closures.......although some new ones have opened as well. Thanks for continuing to support the channel Lloyd! 👍😊

never give money to the guy that is begging outside the old BHS. as he collects money from Social Security every week. I also doubt that he is an ex-serviceman too, as he would get help from the British Legion.

That is not the first time I've heard that! Oh, and it is funny, I will always think of that building as the old BHS......... with the old Woolworths just up the street!
