Who remembers emusic founded by Universal Music and Funded by the vivendi corporation? Well I was one of the first hip hop artists to ever get an Internet deal from Universal Music I signed in 2001 We new way back thin that the Music industry would be a done deal, basically it's hanging on by a thin thread and everyone can thank youtube for that thread. The Majors switched it up instead of paying artists for deals they charge them to upload Music. Either way it goes they are ripping artists off because you pay for songs to get uploaded and allowed to be sold but let's be honest 90% percent of artists that upload music don't make any money because people don't know they exist! But Tidel Spotify or whoever still get payed if the artists sales or not. They talk about being Independent but they are still with major companies only with no promotion. What do you think Spotify is? Duh a major company!

I don't sign people. My label receives 5 to 10 percent of Distribution Royalties. I set up partnerships with the artist rather than take all percentages. I tell them about publishing administration, Music Reports, The MLC, Neighboring Rights. Some Artists just want to create and not deal with the technical business side but It must be done.

I have seen this interview and it was eyeopening. And yet I think the problem is that what 15 year old talent is this savvy? It is one thing to create music and another to be about your business. I think that is also another service the label performs. They take away all the business concerns and so the artist is free to do what the love to do. But thats why its called the music business. Any one can create unmonetized music. I think that even Prince who was a forrunner of this new paradigm found direct to consumer a daunting task and he had a machine and staff.

What do you think they're gonna do to Hip Hop artists that don't know better. That's mainly why the labels had to merge together and pool their marketing muscle so artists can still seem like they're getting paid.
