You nailed the interpretation! Strong 60’s English blues rock. Hopeless, addictive, even strange and haunting. Yet it is infectious. This is a song nearly 60 tears old (1864). I bet I’ve heard it well over a thousand times, each time is a vibe. It is imbedded in my DNA. One of my top ten rock songs of all time. It is in fact both timeless and transportive to the mid 60’s simultaneously. The song’s origin is actually unknown. Several theories exist, but are unproven. It seems better this way somehow.
This is an old blues song, and if memory serves was from the 1920s and first recorded in 1933. The "House of the Rising Sun" was a brothel in New Orleans and the original version was from the perspective of one of the "soiled doves". There is a house in New Orleans, it's called the Rising Sun It's been the ruin of many poor girl Great God, and I for one.
