Some of us in the states remember the wholesale demo of many beautiful structures back in the 1960s and 70s. Not enough people could stop the carnage, very sad.
Excellent vlog today…surviving WWI and WWII is significant and the church is definitely deserving of saving. Let’s pray Billy can obtain some of the history from inside for the convent.
So nice that you and Billy can offer help in saving whatever is salvageable. If the mayor and town agrees too. Alot of red tape but good start. Enjoy your Friday.
I wonder if they can salvage building materials (slates, wood, stone, etc.) as well. These still seem usable. Not sure how aggressively the church will be demolished.
So heartbreaking… it’s such an integral part of the history of the town. Kudos to Billy for offering to store items at the Convent 👍 and Kudos to you Ryan for bring attention to this situation.
The church looks like it can be saved.I think that’s a crime to demolish such a beautiful building.I suppose this is their way of building back better by destroying history. We send crazy amounts of money to all these other countries while everything is allowed to crumble around ourselves.I believe anything is possible if we had more people like you two.Thank you for at least saving whatever is possible.I hate hearing about these circumstances.
The surviving churches in my hometown looked much worse... even for decades... after the bombardment and firestorms at the end of WW2 and money and ressources were scarce in East Germany after the war. Just tent tower helmets or no helmet at all, just a flat wooden roof, windows bricked shut. It's a shame... 😟
@@--Traveler-- It will become our fight if Ukraine loses, fool. Thus it is better to help them win than to have to defend the Eastern NATO countries in a direct confrontation with Russia. We should be glad we only have to send gear, not troops.
the government does not own this church....the VATICAN owns this church and the vatican has been selling off these "buildings" to business's that turn them into restaurants and hotels...a total desecration of their purpose and that is to have a building for their faithful to go to.....the government does not own this property.....the VATICAN needs to save their church.....
@@seaglass777 I know, but these buildings are as historical as religious. They are part of the french landscape, therefore the state should preserve them.
Surely it is up to the church organisation to save their buildings, not the townsfolk, many like you and me who are atheists or who belong to an different religious cult.
I'm an atheist too, and I think it should be saved. I'll donate. Where I live (because of the bad weather, ocean, and constant high winds that hit 140km/h a few times a year) ,if a place makes it to about 100 years old it's considered a heritage site. The thought of them tearing down a building that's older and MUCH more beautiful literally turns my stomach.
I truly hope that the stain glass windows can be saved and used elsewhere in the community. I wonder if there is a church organ that you could get Billy
It's heartbreaking to see history demolished. I'm sure this was a very hard decision for the community to make. However, it is wonderful of Billy to offer storage of things that can be salvaged.
Few people attend church these days. I would say perhaps 5 % of the population and thus the donations are pitiful. Most have left the faith unfortunately , thanks to the NWO .
I'm a sixteen-year-old architecture enthusiast, and this makes me want to scream and cry and bang my head against the wall! It doesn't even look that bad, considering how far gone so many of these structures are. I've always liked Romanesque revival architecture, and this is a supreme example. If I had the money, I would just about go homeless to get that place fixed up and running again!
Your appreciation to the love and craft and skills ( we are losing in Europe and the UK).in the building of this beautiful church is very inspiring and encouraging. Could a craft guild of building, not give their assistance to funding? We need in Europe and the UK to do more to save our churches from destruction, they are owned by God and they are our cultural heritage and must be repaired and used for the love of God in Jesus name for the community as they were intended..
The loss of an historical building is heart-wrenching and the town’s people and mayor are probably devastated that a piece of their heritage will soon be gone. If the town was a tourist destination like the city of Paris is, the church would be saved. Hopefully the church has digitized all of the church records. Hopefully someone will create a plaque or marker on that site to show future generations where the church was situated. So kind of you Billy, to offer storage for items from the church, that are salvageable. I’m guessing that the building has been declared unsafe to enter, to salvage the altar items. Sad situation!
Ryan and Billy , I'm so proud of you. The way you guys are showing so much compassion and sorrow knowing this church will be destroyed. I pray you are able to save some of the furnishings. God bless you.
This is happening all over Europe. Church attendance is way down and there aren't funds to save every building. Those of greatest architectural and historical significance have priority and this one apparently doesn't meet those criteria.
That's too bad that crowdfunding doesn't work that well in Europe. It goes gangbusters here in North America. If the cause is good that is, not sure about saving buildings though.
So, so very heartbreaking! Please keep us up to date with information on the relics and whether or not “The Pethericks” are fortunate enough to help keep them safe from further destruction. Would love a video from church at the time of relic rescue if that is what does happen. Thank You for the insight and sharing with us all! ⛪️ 💚
Survived two World Wars but hearing that is no longer been an active church for awhile now explains a lot about it not being cared for in any manner. Very sad to see this most sacred church structure demolished. In any event I hope Billy is able to obtain anything usable for the convent. If the church was decommissioned and all relics removed then their may not be much inside. It doesn’t matter what country, not just in France that so many churches are empty and not used. What a sad loss.
Ryan, this is such a meaningful way to use your channel. If you can go further and further with it; filming extensively and getting access to the insides of these structures when possible; spreading the word and having communities find those people around the world with money and interest but don't know of the opportunities, what a legacy that would be. Every image to save for posterity and possibly saving some of the churches; creating other passionate people to do the same. Thank you for caring and doing this.
that makes me sad! I was sad when Billy showed the tarp flapping in the wind in a previous video. I hope that the convent can get some of the statues and things. keep it local and safe!
It is a shame what is going to happen to this church but I am so grateful that Billie offered to store the items that can be save from this historical church. Thank you both for informing us. Great job
I understand that there are people that don't see the value in saving churches because they don't support religion, or the use of tax dollars for the preservation of churches. However, the negativity that these people may feel about religion and churches is EXACTLY WHY THEY SHOULD BE SAVED! How are we as a society supposed to learn all the hard painful lessons of history if these places don't exist to keep telling the story??? Goodness! Thank you Ryan and Billy for taking the time to share this sad news with us. I hope the mayor allows you to store the church's furnishings in the convent, so not everything is lost. I signed the petition you shared. I really hope it helps.
Well done Guys!! Saving historic items from the Church is the very least you could be allowed to do!! You may be able to get so pieces for the Convent’s Chapel!!
Waouh 😮 !
Thank you, Ryan and Billy, for sharing this news with us. Is the French Historical Society aware? If not, maybe they could do something. Take good care, gentlemen.
Generations of people attended that church and donated money every Sunday, lots and lots of money and a certain percentage of that money was sent to the Holy See every single month. Heaven forbid that the Catholic Church should every send any of that money back to the Parish to help out with repairing this beautiful church, they make me sick:(.. That is exactly why they no longer get any of my money, I donate where I see the need for it. Thank you Ryan and Billy for giving us an update on this church.
In 1801 there was an agreement signed between France and the Holy See. Via the French Revolution, France is owner of the Catholic Churches. 1905 the Concordat died. The French law of 9 December, 1905, on the Separation of Church and State, against which Pius X protested in his Allocution of 11 December, 1905, was based on the principle that the State of France should no longer recognize the Catholic Church, but only distinct associations cultuelles, i.e. associations formed in each parish for the purpose of worship "in accordance with the rules governing the organization of worship in general". In case of the non-formation of such associations destined to take over the property, real and personal, of the churches or fabriques (see ECCLESIASTICAL BUILDINGS; FABRICA ECCLESIÆ), this property was to be forever lost to the Church and to be turned over by decree to the charitable establishments of the respective communes. By the Encyclical "Gravissimo Officii", of 10 August, 1906, the pope forbade the formation of these associations cultuelles or associations for worship. Rome feared that they would furnish the State with a pretext for interfering with the internal life of the Church, and would offer to the laity a constant temptation to control the religious life of the parish. Thereupon, the State applied strictly the aforementioned law, considered the fabriques, i.e. the hitherto legally-recognized churches, as no longer existing, and, in the absence of associations cultuelles to take up their inheritance, gave over all their property to charitable establishments (établissements de bienfaisance). Exception was made for the church edifices actually used for worship; at the same time nothing was done concerning the numberless legal questions that arise apropos of these edifices, e.g. right of ownership, right of use, repairs, etc. At the present writing, therefore (end of 1908), the Church of France, stripped of all her property, is barely tolerated in her religious edifices, and has only a precarious enjoyment of them. On the other hand, since ecclesiastical authority has forbidden the only kind of corporations (associations cultuelles) which the State recognizes as authorized to collect funds for purposes of worship, the Church has no means of putting together in a legal and regular way such funds or capital as may be required for the ordinary needs of public worship. Thus the churches of France live from day to day; neither the parish nor the diocese can own any fund, however small, which the parish priest or the bishop is free to hand down to his successors; all this because the State stubbornly insists that only the above-described associations cultuelles (which it knows are impossible for French Catholics) shall be clothed with the right of ownership for purposes of worship. Though the present condition is necessarily a transitory one, it appears, unfortunately, to offer one permanent element, i.e. the certain loss of all the property once belonging to the fabriques. The worst enemies of the French clergy must admit that, in order to safeguard its principles, the Church which they accuse of avarice has sacrificed without hesitation all its temporal goods. (See CONCORDAT; FRANCE; ERCOLE CONSALVI; PIUS VII; NAPOLEON BONAPARTE.) Source: Home > Catholic Encyclopedia > C > The French Concordat of 1801 Basically the Churches are prevented from raising funds. with the exception of one prefect that has maintained the 1801 ruling - that is another lesson in history.
people really need to wake up FAST! the zionists want Christianity and the WHITE RACE ERADICATED! That's why "governments" have no problem to demolish churches! Here are just a few quotes from JEWISH scholars and rabbis: "...The goal is to meet the challenge of interracial marriage. It's not a choice. It's an obligation. If voluntarism does not work for the republic then the state will move in with more coercive measures..." (hence: they have SHIPPED-in millions of African muslims in Europe...) -NICOLAS SARKOZY, former president of France - "It is in the Jewish interest, it is in humanities interest that whites experience a genocide. Until white children are burned alive, white women raped, mutilated, murdered and all white men who have not been slaughtered watch powerlessly as their people are terrorized; only then will mankind be on a more equal footing, ready to discuss white privilege and the apparent chip on the shoulder that minorities have.” - ISHMAEL LEVITTS - "Our control Commissions will, in the interest of peace and wiping out our interracial tensions, forbid the whites to mate with white. The white woman must cohabit with members of the dark races, the white men with black women. Thus the white race will disappear, for mixing the dark with white means the end of the white man, and our most dangerous enemy will become only a memory. We shall embark upon an era of ten thousand years of peace and plenty, the Pax Judaica, and our race will rule undisputed over the world. Our superior intelligence will easily enable us to retain mastery over a world of dark people. “Goyim (non-Jews) were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world - only to serve the People of Israel. That is why gentiles were created.” “In Israel, death has no dominion over them… With gentiles, it will be like any person -they need to die, but [God] will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money.” “Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat” - RABBI RABINOVITCH - Budapest in 1952 “The Messiah will come only when Edom, Europe, Christianity, has totally fallen. So, I ask you, is it good news that Muslims are invading Europe? It's EXCELLENT news! It means the coming of the Messiah! Excellent news!” - RAV TOUITOUR - sermon November 20-2013 - “Whiteness is not a culture . . . Whiteness has nothing to do with culture and everything to do with social position . . . . Without the privileges attached to it, the white race would not exist, and the white skin would have no more social significance than big feet.” - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV - “Treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity. “ - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV - “The key to solving the social problems of our age is to abolish the white race. Until that task is accomplished, even partial reform will prove elusive, because white influence permeates every issue in U.S. society, whether domestic or foreign.” - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV - “If you are a white male, you don't deserve to live. You are a cancer, you're a disease, white males have never contributed anything positive to the world!" - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV - "The goal of abolishing the white race is on its face so desirable that some may find it hard to believe that it could incur any opposition other than from committed white supremacists... Keep bashing the dead white males, and the live ones, and the females too, until the social construct known as 'the white race' is destroyed - not 'deconstructed' but destroyed.” - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV -
@@janetpendlebury6808 I don't have any idea. Billy said that it was up to the town & they don't have the funds. Town volunteers and parishioners could have been formed together to save this ancient cathedral.
Ryan, Billy my darlings. I’m with Billy. A team of people should have gone before collapsing the roof to save religious statues, candle operas, furnishings, paintings, etc. such a shame. Ryan, you are right. The government should also have stepped in to save the church. Well my lovers take care and stay safe. See ya next time 🍺🍺❤️🌞🎈🌹🙏👍🇺🇸🌈🕊😇
Yes, a GoFundMe page is an excellent idea. I would make a small donation for that, truly. Ryan you can keep us informed and the mayor. Oh wouldn’t that just be heart warming to save such a beautiful building. May be tis yours and Billy’s destiny. Save these buildings. We will donate.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention and thank you Billy for offering to store the precious items that have survived. I hope here is a solution from higher levels to save this historic Church. Excellent video Ryan!
There are plenty of folks in the world with money. People gave to repair and rebuild Notre Dame. France is losing its history and heritage quick. Just think of all the jobs this would generate? Laws need to change local government can't generate the funds. French government needs to take responsibility and repair the historic buildings! This is heartbreaking! The poor citizens and Mayor having to tear down the village Church! This happened to my grandmother's church in the USA. She was devastated. Thank you, for doing this video! We had no idea!
I would imagine there are hundreds of buildings in trouble and no way the government could possibly save them all. Hopefully you will be able to help them save some things for the history of the town.
As someone already pointed out. Church and state are separate in France, the government will do nothing. Add to that the thousands of churches in France that are like this, they can't all be saved. The building is obviously not A listed, otherwise, they couldn't demolish it. If,it could be proved that there was something important happened there,it certainly could be stalled for historical investigations. Other than that, its gone. It is sad to see an old building go,but, its a reality of life these days. No one can afford the repairs, and it's unsafe. The reason it would have been closed in the first place would be lack of attendance. If there isn't a congregation, then Rome will close it down.
Looking at the cleared land at the side of the church, I’m wondering if the council are viewing the land as a building project & are wanting to add the church land to it. You know what councils & town planners are like. It’s very sad 😢
In a town that old and quiet, I doubt that they have dreams of building high rise apartments or a starbucks, for the revenue. I would think most of rural France would be of the mindset of preferring old things over new, since that's much of the charm, but who knows?
There's no war on religion. If you want to call it a war, it's one on religious people who want to force everyone else to live under their particular religion's rules. You should look up 1 Corinthians, 7:17. Signed, An atheist
Its very sad but I do understand what the Mayor explained and his hands are tied. The history that comes with this church would be very interesting. The many peiple its saved, the weddings and funerals, baptisms etc. Plus I dare say some very interesting stories from the older locals of perhaps the part it played during wars and uprisings. Obviously it is placed at the top of a hill and on a prime piece of land, so if sold the town and locals may benefit from this eventually. Thank you for offering to store any artifacts that can be saved from this very sad event. 💕🇦🇺
I’m surprised Billy Didn’t buy it. But it is incredibly generous to offer store any thing they want salvaged . You guys have such big hearts . I hope there is an answer before it comes down.
Hey Ryan/Billy, perhpas the mayor with your help could try to find a developer who wants to convert the church to housing. They’ve done this in The Netherlands a lot. This could safe it from destruction and it definitely bring more movement into town, good for economy too.👍
I really feel the estimate they have received…is for the total eleven within this district. Just researching London Food Courts on Hannah Rickett‘s RU-vid Channel. There is a Church there converted into a Food Court, Open Market, venue. *Metro Politano* I think it would be very considerate of this district of France, not to be too hasty in seeking a ,demo‘. The news 📰 article…was a definite cry for help…& desperate attention. Thank You, so much for sharing in depth. Even to run into The French Mayor was a serendipitous sign of love. Good Luck France All my Love. ❤🇫🇷❤️
The front half of the church is the most pleasing architecturally, and it looks to be the least damaged. Someone with a few million euros could tear down the rest and build a stone wall to enclose what was salvageable. I hope they consider your offer to store the interior fittings and decor. Perhaps, too, you might make an offer for items that would enhance the convent chapel. You have some blank spaces.
Such a shame. How nice of you to offer to store items at the convent. I hope they accept your offer-that would be interesting. Thank you for sharing this story. So sad.
That is upsetting and sad. I hate seeing old historic buildings destroyed, especially churches. Once they’re gone, they can never be replaced. Unfortunately, it’s not a famous landmark like Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. Unless billionaires and large corporations support restoration efforts, the building is doomed. 😢
I am wondering if there might be some way to demolish the parts of the building that are as you say "nackered" and then build new walls to close the back of the remaining structure. I hope the you can at least help to save some of the contents, especially the windows. So sad about this. 🧡
Didn’t you visit this church earlier…in a other vlog a year ago….. maybe the maire could starts a foundation to save the church and changed in to apartments..and Billie you are generous as always.
We stayed in our Motorhome in that car park as we didn’t realise that the Aire had been relocated. The church is stunning and it’s such a shame it can’t be saved. It has definitely deteriorated a lot since we saw it last March. ❤
These churches are becoming redundant in large numbers across Europe. In a similar situation in Alkmaar, The Netherlands, the church was renovated to include single-persons apartments under the roof, and 2 stories of small shops inside, in a large gallery formation. The exterior is unchanged apart from roof windows (not dormers). Another, very large old church, was modernised to include underfloor heating, and is now a multifunctional venue - church, expo, trade shows, celebrations etc. Of course I don't know if this is financially viable in rural France, nor how many other local old churches are in a similar situation. But all countries must recognise the loss of heritage (and striking landmarks) when they destroy such places, religious or not.
Its sad but you can't pay millions to rebuild a church that nobody uses anymore, the money would be better spent on a community center for the people of the town and support for the older people and children who need help in rural France. To be frankly honest would you attend the church when it was rebuilt, like the convent it became too expensive to maintain, and at least the convent had a use as a hospital and would have a good reason to be saved.
I think what you guys should consider is : You need to form a corporation and get investors that are sentimental to saving French history to assist you in purchasing and at least getting these structures (church, chateau) weatherized (roof, windows) for future renovations and saving. Think about it.
@@JaneClare-ci1zc Thank you. They could form a Preservation Association and seek out some philanthropists to give them funds to save these rare specimens of art and craft.
@@BigJack1 ...yes exactly, it seems like the next step for them. Helping out historical buildings on a bigger scale as well as the ones that Billy can do himself.
Part of the problem as well is churches are just not doing well, people aren’t as involved in their churches , the congregations are so small the church itself can’t afford to maintain the buildings or even pay anyone to preach. One church in particular ……..no I won’t go there. It’s a sad thing that the beautiful historic buildings are just being torn down though, hopefully you can help salvage some of the interior. 🤞🙋🏼♀️
There is simply no money in it, the apartments would have to sell for 2 million a throw, there are no gardens, it's like a glorified roundabout, reuse the saveable fixtures and fittings and stonework and that's the best you could get!?!
This church was built with love and craft to devotion in Jesus name to God. They refuse to restore it ,when it could be repaired to help house the homeless or used for the good of the community to whom it was always intended to serve. What do they intend to do with the land when the church is demolished at great cost to the community?
It would be worse to convert it to apartments. If the building can't be saved at least build a museum or a new church in its place with the same exterior appearance as the original.
Loosing that church is a horrible shame. The world needs these historic buildings. Haven’t they tried to go on tv or the net to raise the money? This is so sad. I’d be more than happy to donate to keep these treasures with us! This is a serious cause..
Sign of the times we live in. Plenty of money for all the tinsel and meaningless rubbish we suck up everyday without a second thought. To dedicate a tiny portion in order to save something that can never be replaced - just not on! - shameful in every way.
It is so heartbreaking to hear! I remember you both showing us that church before. It was wonderful to hear that you got to speak to the Mayor and offer storing things at the convent...I hope & pray they take Billy up on that generous offer! 🙏Thank you so much for sharing, please keep us updated. Take really good care of yourselves, stay well! Lots of love Kathy x 💖
