Caterpillar 312 28,000lb machine You can clear palmetto with a small excavator, but on this job I was also clearing trees. Thanks for watching the video, it's from back when I was living in Florida and I was just trying to make some extra money to open my Motorcycle Shop, so I was working for an excavation company. But I did get my shop opened, we eventually moved back to WV and the business is booming! You can see those videos here on this channel, or my Facebook business page facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057489818717&mibextid=ZbWKwL
Here is a playlist of when I was running the equipment in Florida, in the middle of the list, there are a few videos of clearing that palmetto ru-vid.com/group/PLICWLX3xQIRO4UQAtoPBpeJDpECY7eGfH
Skid steer with a root rake would do the job, but that is all going to depend on what kind of traction you can get, and depending on what unit you use. That stuff is extremely tough I'm sure it would do well for a tiki roof. I just hate handling the stuff, definitely would need good gloves.
@@nonyanonya6389 Indeed they are tough, you see the machine we had to use! Thanks for watching, and there are a couple of these types of videos on this channel, I did several clearing jobs in that area.
@@thedragon2299 thanks and out of curiosity what's the average price for an acre of bush hogging flat dry land with tall grass and small shrubs? Do you know?
@@nonyanonya6389 The prices vary greatly as you would imagine. Some guys mow an acre per hour, and some 3 acres per hour. Price range goes from $25 per hour to $150 per hour. Problem is getting some people to only mow 1 acre. But in saying all that, you could probably get a local guy who needs extra money to do it for $100 maybe less.
Yea. I got 9.3 acres of that. 4 years ago, before I owned the land, I could get it cleared for about $1,500 an acre. Now, in a great economy, they are wanting CRAZY money. $4,500-5,000 an acre. They have people lined up around the block with wheelbarrows of money needing clearing. I'm either going to have to rent an excavator or vote Democrat.
R Griffith: I here that. Best to rent one your self, I used to get mini excavator for $300 a weekend. Don't know too many deals like that anymore either.
Good idea for learning technique and controls first too. Eventually its going to be a month long rental of something bigger ($2,500 or so) and at least 15 days of vacation. I'll save that for after the house is built Q1 '19. I read somewhere someone used hogs to get palmetto balls up and out. I didn't believe it for a second, until the old man I buy bees and hives from says he used hogs too. I might toy with doing that a little first.
Daniel Southers: I would definitely have to see it before quoting a price, but I'm actually working for someone full-time, I don't have my own equipment right now. I would need to rent it. Thanks for responding
