and if you harm them... they will sue you for your home and win... the only country that is moving backwards and their ppl allowing it by now forcing change in their leadership or lack of.
@@violent_bebop9687 sanctuary country... the whole country is falling... it is more apparent in the dense city as opposed to small cities of less than 100,000. Americans need to understand that the biggest cities is where the countries wealth comes from aka where smaller towns and cities will get funds from taxes come from. If the big US cities collapse, so will the rest of the country.
Imagine thinking 1500 cops in a city of 1.2 million can be everywhere 1500 so at any 8 hour period 500 cops to police over a million people Imagine you had a brain
I took that stupid thing off my garage door when I moved into my house 23 years ago when I first heard about this issue. They can also slide something in above the metal doors too. I’m surprised more people aren’t aware of this being a problem. Just keep something handy in the garage to pull that little lever down in an emergency. Stay safe.
@veryslyfox You think a thief is going to try and get a wire inside the release, through that little hole they drilled? 🤣 But yes I agree it's a horrible design.
Too much work and remember the robber want to make it happen quick. It would look suspicious someone hanging by garage door with a wire in the garage door
SFPD Police Chief William Scott was the first to sound the alarm that releasing booking photos and descriptions is racists as it impacts black and brown people more. REGARDLESS of the fact it is showing citizens who the criminal actual is as you cannot arrest someone without probable cause they committed the crime. BMA make up 3% of SF and are responsible for the most felony street crimes SF has a program to pay gang members to NOT be involved in shootings. It could be defunct now it came after the 2020 riots.
At the end of this video they mention a website offering tips to homeowners to protect themselves. I would bet my life savings none of the tips included shooting the robber when they threaten you with a knife 🙄. Those people are hopeless.
@@__-pl3jg You know, I own guns and knives, but I've always wanted to try a bullwhip in one of these situations. I wonder if they offer a class for that?
That's what I was thinking, criminal may walk in, but gonna be carried out... Neighbors need to get together, be watchful over each other. That man is probably not working alone. Be prepared.
Once again, photos, visual identification by witnesses and no description of race. We have his height, his weight, the manufacturer of his body bag, but no race.
You can reinforce your emergency release with a light weight zip tie. You’ll still be able to open manually if you pull hard enough to break the zip tie, but a thief won’t be able to open it with a wire.
When we're home, I throw the slide latch so the door won't roll up. Yes, the opener doesn't work at that point, but neither will the door. We're home. The opener is a moot point.
I bought my first home in the mid 80's. I have owned 5 other homes since then. All had door openers and never once in 40 years have I ever needed the emergency release. I remove the cords and put a couple of zipties through the hole and around the latch. The cord is wrapped around the end of the track if I ever need it. I also tied a small carabineer to the end to make it easy to use if I ever needed it. When we go out of town the opener gets unplugged and a padlock gets placed on the track.
@@fauxque5057 I prefer the big heavy single piece garage doors made of solid wood and counterbalanced by massive tension springs. They have latches that is actuated by a center handle with a lock in it.
In addition to removing the cord, If you have side rails all you do is put a stopper on the rail above a wheel on one side. It means each time you open the garage to leave you remove the stopper. But those 10 seconds is peace of mind while you sleep.
Are you sure they didn't drill those holes to give the homeowner a gun port to shoot from? It looks like a bad case of suicide by armed homeowner to me.
What, exactly, are taxpayers paying for if they have to deal with crime themselves while simultaneously being told that having the means to protect the life, liberty, and happiness of themselves and their friends/family/neighbors is bad?
I think the plan is to allow things to get so bad (crime isn't just increasing in one area, it's everywhere and in other countries) that the public will be BEGGING for draconian rules and a police state. That's ultimately where this is going.
SF Politicians has been defunding, vilifying and limiting police for years. Non profits receive $1B+ for Harm Reduction Drug Dens, hotels for unhoused, and Mayor London Breed's favored Urban Alcemy which is a job program for ex-cons to manage all the homeless programs. Everyone who shows up claiming to be homeless receives approx $700/month.
This happened to a house a block away from me in Bernal Heights. This city caters to the criminal class. I like how the politically correct newscast only described his height lol 😂 They will surely not catch the perpetrators.
He has a knife, but nobody in the city is allowed to have a firearm that would quickly put a stop to it. As that stupidly ignorant lady said, "It's disheartening...", because she would rather be nice about it, rather than brutal.
Right? I mean, when people are funneling 100x that national average in property taxes directly to your government, for no other reason than nice weather, the LEAST you could do is provide a decent police force? Literally DETROIT has better policing. So WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING??
It is the norm because the residents of SF voted for this if they want change they need to wake up and kick the people in power out of office, but sadly they won't.
An easy fix for this is get a small pool noodle, it can be hollow or solid (solid you’ll need to cut a slot half way through it). Slide it over the rope pull and secure with zip ties. This prevents the thief from being able to grab the rope and pull it through the hole he’s drilled. Then he cannot unhitch the release. Secondary item is install a manual slide lock on the door. They are about $10 at Home Depot. Or buy a long bolt Master lock and slip it through a hole in the track just above a wheel. Cheap, easy and effective.
That happened to me a month ago. It took 10 phone calls for SFPD to finally come over and take a report. Absolutely ridiculous. I even recovered my stolen items by myself.
Easy fix-deterrent. Go to Lowe’s and for less than $5 each, buy these rounded triangular shaped metal spring locks that open and close by squeezing them. Put one on each side of your door in the hole of your door rails right above one of the door rollers. It prevents that door from opening. Impossible for any thief to open your big door by pulling on your emergency string.
@@gcarson19 True. It’s a trade off. Some use their garage as a storage area and park on the driveway. In that case, not an issue. But if you’re parking inside. Maybe only at nighttime before you sleep if you’re parking inside. Personal decision.
No. That will escalate. What do you know about Europe's history, btw? Sometimes I wonder if people even know themselves let alone cultural development.
Man it is really sad yall have to deal with not having a police force that can function and you are not allowed to protect your property. Thank god my family moved away from that crap hole. If I call the police in a terrible neighborhood, the police still show up within 10 minutes for a non violent crime. population is much smaller. We also have less officers and two major trafficking highways that need to be covered. Dont worry. The rich have their gated communities the police will show up to in a timely manner out in CA sometimes still.
I live in a town in Monterey County. The cops show up to take reports, are quick to call back when there's a problem and even faster when there's an emergency, just like i remember SJPD used to be.
Look online, there are very large numbers of articles showing how to keep this very thing from occurring! Family handyman has a number of articles online!
A woman in Encino, Leslie Banks in California reported the people who live next to her have two men with assault rifles guarding their home. People are hiring private security in America, to protect their homes, and it's not fair, for people who can't afford it. A neighborhood in Manhattan hired private security to protect their street from criminal activity. Leslie Swanson said she came home from work last week, and after parking in her driveway, saw two men with assault weapons standing on her neighbors lawn. She learned from her neighbors across the street, that the homeowners living next to her had hired private security to guard their home. Well, Leslie told her neighbors she can't afford private security, to protect her home. Her neighbors told her that they no longer watch tv in their living room, because they fear the private security guards stray bullets hitting their living room windows, across the street from them protecting their neighbors home. They moved their entertainment system to the back of their house in their guest room to watch tv.
You think its bad there. Come and stay here in St Louis for a while. You'll be running back there in a few days. 😂😂 Crime is up in all cities whether red or blue.
@@damham5689 this is a complete misnomer. Democrat run cities, i.e., most major metropolitan cities, even in red states have proportionately higher crime than other areas. Liberals are lenient. Conservatives are not.
REMOVE YOUR EMERGENCY LATCH. I do on every home I own. Yes, it called an emergency latch, but it's not for an emergency. It allows you to open and close your door if your opener fails for any reason.
Remove the safety latch from your openers, and install a lock on the garage door itself. Keep the door from home to garage locked as well. All you can really do besides arm yourself.
2 years ago, after a few close calls with my garages, I secured the emergency cords and added latches ($5-10) and wireless security cameras ($100-150). I accidentally pressed the garage door button while latched a few times 😂 but eventually got into the habit of unlatching every time, and latching when I get home. It’s a low cost investment considering the danger of someone accessing your home/cars, I’d recommend it to anyone facing these issues.
My interactions with homeowners and the SFPD have shown that putting up a sheet of metal inside the are where the y have to drill helps. The other thing you can do is disconnect the emergency chord. This is not a new thing and a little bit of preparedness can save a homeowner big time.
They show two different people, two means plans. Plans mean more than two. Just like the car break-ins. Garage door companies could make some cash by making armored plates.
Just remove the handle of the cord, or remove the cord altogether. You can still easily unlatch the opener by getting on a step ladder. Besides, when was the last time you even unlatched the garage opener? Never?
