Thomas Tuchel perfectly summed it up he said “Coaching isnt the next step or something you do right after 400 appearances as a player, it’s something which needs to be studied, something which you learn with time and experience.” And his words make absolute sense as some of the best coaches in football never really had good careers as players, some weren’t even professionals.

Well, as Carragher notes, and others have pointed out, the relationship between world-class player and world-class coach is tenuous, at best. Knowing how the game worked for yourself, when you have 1 in a million talent, is not how the game is going to work for 17 guys barely good enough for the level. Let alone the man-management and team structure issues, which he had little to do with before. His record as a head coach is anything but world-class. Even against MLS.

they are professional players no matter where they play and henry was a novice coach, they have had professional coaches why can't they question a novice one
@EIRW1Z
@EIRW1Z 3 года назад
I think there is a lot more to it, but the psychology of the younger generation is more introspective, for better or worse. A good way to explain what I mean is by counting the number of truly world class players today, compared with when Henry was at his best. For sure, there are less now. I think this is because players today believe they have got themselves there through their own hard work, rather than hard work PLUS coaching. So, when they are told something by a coach they are more likely to question it (as they think they know better how they should play) and coaches nowadays have to be able to fully articulate, in a way that is understandable, what they are asking the player to do. If they can't, the player will likely discard what the coach has said.

I played for 12 years at what was Canada's highest level before CPL and MLS. I started coaching 6 years ago and the first 3 years was very hard to transition from player to coach . I started all my coaching badges from the very beginning . I'm talking U4 all the way to U8 . Even tho my ambition is to be a head coach of a top club , I still started with youth badges regardless of my background . Every course I did whether it was for 4 ur olds to U18 I learned something . Alot of these former pros Henry,Seedorf , Lampard which ever u name . I can guarantee u none of them suffered and did what they consider is below them. All of them were fast tracked based on their player status . Henry got his UEFA B license and A and pro all in a span of a few months . Look it up if u don't believe . Infact numerous candidates complained that it took them yrs and Henry got his so quick. There's no doubt these coaches were fine players , legends even but it's completely diff when u go into coaching. Watching a game is not normal anymore . These guys don't want to suffer with b clubs or even C clubs . They are all previleged enough to have contacts . I coach semi pro here in Canada now . I can't even get a chance with 5 division English clubs let alone second division. These guys have good footballing brains but never adjusted properly. Seedorf claims racism in management . He said Henry had to run to Canada because he can't find a job in Europe . But they all over look the fact that they are simply not ready. Also look over the fact that they got their license quicker than I wrote this . 6 years coaching now and I have to fly to Germany to get my UEFA B in June . Complete bs if u ask me.
@originalherbalist

So he got his badges a bit quicker he still has to succeed. He achieved everything as a player and worked with great managers starting with Martinez as an assistant i would not say that's fast tracking. If i was a player i would be really excited to play for him.
@stivenmikhail2112
@stivenmikhail2112 3 года назад
@@originalherbalist I understand he still has to succeed but success would be a bit easier with a solid foundation . Being an assistant for a national team is completely different from club teams. Daily tasks are far from national tasks . The Belgium job was a resume filler and camera sighting . His job is France where he almost got a team regulated was far from average . Coming to MLS and winning 20 percent of ur games is not exactly average . I understand they should be treated a little bit different I wouldn't complain BUT to go from player to managing a top club in top division and succeeding is impossible .
@originalherbalist
@originalherbalist 3 года назад
@@stivenmikhail2112 You are still learning valuable lessons be it international or club football i'm sure he gained working with Martinez, and you can't judge him on those two stints there was mitigating circumstances with both those jobs especially with Montreal who had to play away for most of the time and he still managed to take them further than they had ever been that must count as something positive. I for one think it's great that players of Henry's caliber want to stay involved in the game instead of taking the easy pundit money.
@stivenmikhail2112
@stivenmikhail2112 3 года назад
@@originalherbalist I love the fact that these top players remain and coach . That's not what I'm against. I'm not even against them being treated different . All I'm saying is they need to be assistants or have lower level clubs untill they prove they are ready . Martinez must of been a great experience and I for one would have loved to even be the club janitor . But guys like myself don't get that opportunity . I took a team here in Canada to number 1 in the country . I have been undefeated for 2 years ! But no recognition . That's my only point. There is alot of coaches like me ,who are passionate and doing amazing work . But we get out shun by guys who have connections . Look at Pirlo right now ... One of the best players I have ever seen. He's managing a 1.9 billion dollar club and he just lost to a team worth 40 million in total. Do u think Allegri would be in 4th? Do u think Allegri would have been kicked out of CL by Porto ? This is the difference . All I'm saying is these guys need more years under their belt before they take on top level . If u were a coach u would understand .

Agents have far more influence these days, young players are always being told they deserve better because they are special. Players used to die for Mourinho/Wenger/Fergie, these days they are told they are bigger than the club from a young age. This is as much true in modern society as it is in football. Ole has given Fred a role to play in the United side and it's unfair to ask him to be playing 50 games a season because idt he's supposed to be fulfilling that role, but players like Fred and McTominay are essential if you want to go the distance in a football season. Here's to better recruitment at United, fingers crossed the new structure is not a mask.

This is the second time Henry gave me a huge grin while listening to his 'personal' stories related to football. The first one was Pep philosophy at Barca when tiki-taka was the cute name fed to consumers. It was actually 2/3 and with the monsters they had at every position the last 1/3 was a buffet... This time on how to make the way up from a bad position (getting hired) and try to change the DNA of a team by convincing each member to going back to basic and progress from the goal out without eliminating by forcing them to get rid of the 'old' habit (long ball) which is in itself a very useful skillset in other situations. The 'victory' is when team member started to do the right thing (moving the ball forward instead of sideway). Taking responsibility is a sign of confident. Working in IT and tried to explain the theory of football to people with education background and degrees from institutions are the hardest. Mostly impossible since they refuse simple logic but explain the Diamond shape is actually a special binary tree will make them LOL for the joke... Having 'technical' interviews are simply as stupid as coaches challenge players on how to do a Rabona. This is the reason why it's hard to find good developer and big compagnies tried different methods but forgot that human is corrupted per design as soon as power and money get into the process. Henry would be a kick ass developer and I will take as my teamate without a sweat. He will learn coding as I'll ask dumb questions on football... Henry ? Do we Rabona in Tiki-Taka ?
