I think you accidentally said all interior angles to the convex polygon must be "acute" angles. In your case most of the interior angles are greater than 90 degrees, thus they are obtuse. The key is that the interior angles are not greater than 180.

Delaunay triangulation is indeed step 1. The polygons finally appear in step 4.
