@@alias19 Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. Mostly copper. The copper can be separated if it's economical to do so. The scrap value of bronze is half that of copper which leans toward it being economical separate the copper. The story also mentioned a pure copper bell being stolen elsewhere, so pure copper bells are out there. The thieves likely don't have clue exactly what they are stealing.

@@alias19 You're taking this way too seriously. And we do know what copper is recycled into. It's recycled into things that contain copper, and electric motor windings contain a lot of copper, and electric motors are used by... Oh nevermind.
