I was in a band in 1976 in London we’d booked a studio in Southall to do our first proper recording I went out to get us lunch and heard this song blaring out from a record shop it was The Boys Are Back and I just wanted to give up it was amazing you couldn’t compete! I forgot lunch and went and dragged the guys to the shop Emerald is bloody amazing my favourite ever guitar duel at the end also Still In Love With You the version off Live and Dangerous so good it’s got me through nearly all my break ups since 1978! And we lived 2 mins from Hammersmith and went to every gig that week that became Live and Dangerous and the new RSD release such a great band. Phil lived in Kew Road about 5 mins walk from my parents house in Kew such a sad end to such a great talent but some guys just aren’t born to make old bones
1. Thunder and Lightning (1983) 2. Johnny The Fox (1976) 3. Jailbreak (1976) 4. Bad Reputation (1977) 5. Black Rose (1979) 6. Renegade (1981) 7. Fighting (1975) 8. Chinatown (1980) 9. Vagabonds of The Western World (1973) 10. Nightlife (1974) 11. Thin Lizzy (1971) 12. Shades of a Blue Orphanage (1972)
You’re absolutely clueless. If Lynott had been healthy and lived, John Sykes would have updated Thin Lizzy’s sound and made them highly relevant in the 1980s. They would have blown all the other Seventies dinosaurs away. All the plaudits Coverdale/Whitesnake got for the 1987 album co written by Sykes- all that would have gone to Lizzy. Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy would have at last got their dues with the Lynott/Johnny Sykes partnership. Tragically, not to be. “Mindless shredder”- pppffff.
My nominations: 12) Thunder & Lightning 11) Shade of a Blue Orphanage 10) Vagabonds of the Western World 9) Thin Lizzy 8) Fighting 7) Nightlife 6) Bad Reputation 5) Jailbreak 4) Renegade 3) Johnny the Fox 2) Chinatown 1) Black Rose
My favorite album is the debut Thin Lizzy album. Despite the recordings not being as polished as the rest it has some awesome tracks, Diddy levine, honesty is no excuse, remembering 1 and 2. This album feels like a love experience/lesson from phil himself.
Agree. This album is probably 2nd place for me, as I just love th Black Rose album more. What is really great about their debut, is that it is really soulfull. You feel that every song on it happened in real life and Phill just telling you that
For me being Irish in Ireland, Thin lizzy are one of the greatest ever! I have the Róisín Dubh Tattoo. 12) Shades Of A Blue Orphanage 11) Vagabonds Of The Western World 10) Nightlife 9) Johnny The Fox 8) Renegade 7) Thin Lizzy 6) Thunder And Lightning 5) Chinatown 4) Jailbreak 3) Vagabonds of western world 2) Róisín Dubh (Black Rose) 1) Bad Reputation I favor the early stuff more than this person does ach still great stuff.
Very hard to argue with that list I love the softness of phils voice on some songs on jailbreak, the killing of the buffalo on chinatown is one of my top lizzy songs
1) Black Rose 2) Fighting 3) Jailbreak 4) Chinatown 5) Thunder & Lighting 6) Bad Reputation 7) Nightlife 8) Renegade 9) Johnny The Fox 10) Vagabongs Of The Wetern World 11) Thin Lizzy 12) Shades of A Blue Orphanage The top 10 albums are all just about perfect and they can all change on any given day other than the top 2
Wow great insight in this video. You're right that Jon Sykes was going to turn Thin Lizzy into a premiere 80s metal band and it would have been absolutely biblical.
12. Thin Lizzy 11. Shades of a blue orphanage 10. Vagabonds ... 9. Nightlife 8. Fighting 7. Renegade 6. Bad Reputation 5. Johnny the Fox 4. Jailbreak 3. Black Rose 2. Chinatown 1. Thunder and Lightning
I feel like there are plenty of rock bands that don’t get the respect they deserved. Thin Lizzy is one of my favorites along with Bachman turner overdrive.
I'm with you, Gary. "Boys Are Back in Town" cannot be overplayed for me. I hear it on the radio, and the volume goes up, much like any UFO song I ever hear on the radio. Jailbreak isn't may favorite Lizzy LP, but I love the record.
I love almost all Thin Lizzy studio albums, my favorite overall is Chinatown actually! The only one I think is just pretty good is Vagabonds of the Western World (it just feels a bit weird to me, especially before Nightlife which is a favorite), and the only one I genuinely don’t like is Shades Of A Blue Orphanage. That ones kinda hard to sit through tbh
not every song has that power but johnny and suicide turned my head into a music video machine ... espeicially johnny ... like a short story in a sense with musical interruptions
I have a soft spot for fighting album. Kings vengeance is my favourite lizzy song. I first saw then on the fighting tour in 75 at Londons new Victoria theatre. By the way lynott is said as in why not. Not lyn not
1.Jailbreak 2.Fighting 3.Renegade 4.Black Rose 5.Johnny The Fox 6.Bad Reputation 7.Thunder & Lightning 8.Vagabonds Of The Western World 9.Nightlife 10.Thin Lizzy 11.Chinatown 12.Shades Of A Blue Orphanage
@@buzzbuzzerson3592 I listened to Renegade from start to finish last night. I also like it (as I do all of their albums) but I wouldn't have it as being Lizzy's 3rd best. One album that I listen to least is actually 'Black Rose' ! Obviously it contains a strong selection of tuneful songs but apart from the superb title track the album tends to sound to 'power-pop' and over-produced for my liking.
There are no bad Thin Lizzy albums, just some I enjoy more than others. I have the same bottom 3 as you. And Bad Reputation is also my # 2. Saw them on the Jailbreak tour with Nazareth and the Ian Gillan Band. And then again on the Bad Reputation tour where they opened for Queen. I think they blew Queen off the stage -and that is no easy feat.
@@alltheworldsastage899 I only know because they came to my hometown of Fresno, California but Queen cancelled because Freddie Mercury got ill. The venue offered refunds but Lizzy went on and played a full set.
My List (12:) Thin Lizzy (11:) Shades Of A Blue Orphanage (10:) Nightlife (9:) Vagabonds Of The Western World (8:) Renegade (7:) Chinatown (6:) Black Rose: A Rock Legend (5:) Bad Reputation (4:) Fighting (3:) Jailbreak (2:) Thunder And Lightning (1:) Johnny The Fox
You're wise to know just how low-key good Johnny is. For me it's 3 man cage fight between Johnny, Jailbreak, Fighting. Also I like their first three albums WAY better than anything after Bad Rep. Most Lizzy fans feel the opposite. Maybe I love the first three because I'm a huge early Rod Stewart fan, and those 3 are in that style. Even Nightlife, which is really good too. @@braydenh.9210
Let me say this, there’s no thin lizzy song I don’t like. I love every album and really just about every song. 12) Vagabonds On The Western World 11) Shades of Blue Orphanage 10) Thin Lizzy 9) Renegade 8) Thunder and Lightning 7) Chinatown 6) Johnny The Fox 5) Bad Reputation 4) Black Rose 3) Nightlife 2) Jailbreak 1) Fighting
The first four records are in their own category. Then there is Jailbreak, which I think has always been overrated. Not my favorite. All rest are so good, that it is very Hard to put them any order.
