Who's listening in 2023?? This one never gets old! From beginning to end, this song still elevates my metal spirit into a frenzy. I had this song ringing in my head today so had to find this clip. What an awesome demonstration of Thin Lizzy. Lynott's voice delivering that distinct, in-depth power, and John Sykes just shredding the heck out of that Les Paul! It's a journey! They were underrated then, they are underrated today! Rock on brothers and sisters!
Lizzy were NEVER underrated. Always brilliant. Many bands that came after them cited them as a major influence ... Iron Maiden, Metallica, most of the NWOBHM bands, practically any band using twin guitar harmonies.
7270 Just got here Your right on every level. Its like a conspiracy To write them out of history.. In the 80s Lizzy rolled off the tounge With motorhead & ACDC..
I hate heroin I love Phil and it was brilliant getting John Sykes to play with Lizzy , hearing this pinch harmonics man this f****** awesome this is a great piece of music history right here people🤘🤘🤘
The greatest lyricist that we've had the pleasure to listen too. Thank you Philip Lynott. For some of the best rock tracks ever written . And this is a perfect example. ☠️🤘
John Sykes brought a completely new dynamic that changed the whole direction the band were heading in. 'Thunder & Lightening' should have been the album that relaunched Lizzy to a whole new generation of metal crazy kids. The Sun Goes Down (live version) still sends shivers and remains my all time favourite track - period!
Max Parkin I would totally agree with you on that Max. I was fortunate enough to see them in their prime i believe in 1977. Their popularity dipped early 80s but when i heard Cold sweat for the 1st time with Sykesy i thought the're back in the game. I still listen to all the albums regularly, a very underated band and sadly missed Phil and Gary. RIP🎸
If you want to see how it should be done performing live check out Gary Moore and friends on the old grey whistle test, dont believe a word absolutely awesome performance. Hope you all agree 🎸👍
@@theodoreritola7641 Dumbest comment I've ever read on a Thin Lizzy video. Renegade wasn't a great album but Thunder and Lightning is one of their best. John Sykes gave them a huge shot in the arm.
Saw Megadeth at the Manchester Academy, played a great version. Met them at a signing session before the gig. Mustaine said it was difficult to play the song right so that it gave Lizzy and the song the respect they deserve.
This tune, especially live, is the catchiest song ever written in the hard rock genre. It is pure thunder with both a riff and a chorus vocal that is pure ear candy.
Anybody who played guitar in this band is great in my book Eric, Brian, Gary, John and that also includes Midge Ure and snowy white. They were all in my opinion part of the Lizzy sound and they should have been much bigger than they were . But people seem to forget Scot in all these " who was the best guitarist posts" Well Scot was there from almost day one and still doing it now in the name of Lizzy whether people like the line up or not . Best rock band ever for me and glad I saw them live . Thanks Phil Brian and all the great axe players!
Scott was the back bone of Lizzy his slick laid back style was the foundation of the various incarnations of the band one of the most humble guys, love all his solos
What can you say other than this is one of the best bands ever. Phil was such a great front man (along with Bon Scott) and always had top notch guitarists. It sickens me that they aren't in the RnR HOF, then again, the RnR HOF is a joke. I do believe I am going to put "Cold Sweat" into my band's set list and kick some serious ass with it! RIP Mr. Lynott!
There was no black, there was no white with Phil. There was just great music. Surround him with great musicians and magic happens. Thunder and lightening was one of the greatest albums I have ever heard and sadly Phils last. If you listen, he knew he was going to die and he told you in a few songs on that album.
One of the most underrated musicians of all time. A true genius whose contributions to the development of hard rock and heavy metal can't be overestimated. But sadly also one of those incredible musicians who left us way too soon. R.I.P. Philip Parris Lynott. Fucking legend
Effortless , this gig. They were always good but it's like they are telepathic, the whole band, here. Perfect. You're not gone Phillip, always and forever in our hearts.
deaths of Phil Lynott, David Byron and Cliff Burton were probably the most painful losses in history of 80's rock/metal...... I would pay 1000 bucks for a ticket to see those guys perform with their bands these days
@@tombstonejones9581 I'm sure there were several great rock/metal figures that we lost so early on..... F. Mercury died in early 90's, but the last Queen material could be still considered 80's music with that typical late 80's/early 90's sound....... that was also a MAJOR loss for rock music...... but we also lost MANY great guys even in recent years...... Bowie, Lemmy, Prince to name a few
I wish people wouldn't keep saying bands are underrated. Thin Lizzy are highly rated. It's nobody's fault if you never heard them before. Seek and ye shall find - and when you find - lap it up. You'll never forget.
In my book, i call this HEAVY STUFF that you can ROCK ON endlessly without getting fed up with Phil Lynott's voice. I've been listening to the bands music since 1984 up until today .... especially the album "BAD REPUTATION" Phil Lynott - Rock Legend and Rock Icon ! ! just by listening to him gives me a "COLD SWEAT" . . . . YEAH !
And this is a band firing on every cylinder! ☺Still a magnificent piece of hard rock. Cheers Phil...your spirit will never die...and thanks to the rest of the boys too.
This must be the most inexplicably underrated - not to mention criminally unknown! - Thin Lizzy song of all time. “The Boys are Back in Town?” Please, this is the REAL SHIT! Keeeerist, that first John Sykes pinch harmonic - at 0:46 seconds - could stop a bull elephant at 500 yards... and that up-front, in-your-face Phil Lynott BASS SOUND... hair-raising stuff for the ages!
Anyone notice pre chorus Phil says cold stone sober, cold stone sweat? I thought it was cool because it’s a new tune and they were just there to rock. Not worrying about being perfect, just there to rock. Legend.
Ahh...can someone take me back in time ;) ...Oh Phil and John...can't be today though...I know heaven is a happy bright place with P there...but John, will you plz come back to Sweden for a while :) Play for us...like no one can but you...jamming our nights off aye :)) Glory days indeed...roots of my musical ground. Lizzy lives! XXX
I bought a record as a kid in 1983, called "Hardrock-83" This tune became the favourite of the album, and still is a song that i return to, to feel young again. Fantastic rythm and melody combined!
