The limb that once supported the center of my ZS6BKW antenna (computer-optimized version of the G5RV) broke. I happened to look out the shack window and I noticed that the center insulator (a Ladder-Loc) was nearly on the ground. So I assessed the situation and formed a plan.
It was my first opportunity to use the EZ-Hang slingshot. I have a similar antenna hanging slingshot/reel combo that I’ve used for 20+ years, but it is about worn out. So, I decided to buy the one made for deploying wire antennas.
My first contact with the newly deployed ZS6BKW was with E51JD, Jim. He is part of a 2-person DXpedition to the South Cook Islands, some 6,288 miles from my QTH. I broke through a massive pileup.
It seems that the ZS6BKW really like to be at 50 feet or more above ground. Joel, KC4WZB, has his ZS6BKW at 65 feet and he works/hears everything. Wayne, W4KWM, has his at 62 feet and he worked Japan with 100W and got a 57 signal report.
