RE: Peeling eggs (for your mom 😁) I work in the restaurant business. The best way to hard boil eggs for an easy peel is the following: Place your cold eggs in a pot of cold water. Set on stove and bring to a boil. As soon as it starts boiling, set a timer for 10 mins. Once the 10 mins are up, immediately drain the hot water and start running cold water over them. After a few mins, fill the pot with cold water and dump ALOT of ice into the pot. The cold ice bath causes the egg inside the shell to cool very quickly and pull away from the shell. The secret is to not let them sit for hours after you do this. Let them sit for maybe 10 mins then start peeling them. Keep them in ice water until you get them all peeled.

Tip: peeling hard boiled eggs, gently tap them all over on the counter and roll your palm over the whole egg. The peel usually comes off in one long piece. Another way is to peel them in a bowl of water. Warm eggs are easier to peel than cold eggs so I never ice bath them, just drain them and fill the pot with cold tap water. They're still warm enough to peel by the time I get to them and peeling them under the water (after tapping and gently rolling the shell under palm on the counter). Works well for me! 👌👍

Bring water to a boil, add your eggs, set timer for 12 minutes, pull off stove when timer goes off and dump out hot water. Run cold water over the eggs until they are cool to the touch and peel immediately. I have never had an egg peel anything but perfect when using this method. I only wish it hadn't taken me 15 years of egg peeling hell before figuring this out. It's a lifesaver!

The easiest peeling eggs. STEAM your eggs for 10 minutes. Place in cold water and peel as soon as your fingers can stand the heat. Make multiple cracks and the shells will fall off. My Mother-in-law hates that I learned this, and it works so well, after she went through all the years of cratered deviled eggs. No more need for egg frustration!

When I boil fresh eggs, I tap them lightly on the counter to get a little crack in the shell before boiling. That lets a little water between the shell and the membrane in there and they peel soooo much easier! Hope this helps. Love, love, love your videos.

Boiled eggs: Bring eggs to a boil and immediately drop to simmer in a covered pot. Simmer 5 minutes, remove from heat and allow to sit in the covered pot another 5 minutes. Drain and immerse in cold water, changing once or twice to keep cooling. Peel, though never perfect every time, it's the absolute best way I've tried.

I love that you had the deviled eggs! They are way easier to peel if you steam them instead of boiling them-regardless of the age of the egg. Also, I use Susan’s Pinterest peeling idea all the time, but on a much larger and faster scale. I cool the eggs in the pot by running cool water on them (not a cast iron pot that could crack with the temperature change) and drain all but a bit of water from the pot. Replace the lid and shake the whole thing, peeling them all at once. The baking soda in the water helps, and using a cleaned thumb tack to poke a small hole in the air pocket end of the egg helps as well. Happy Saturday!

Hey Becky, we here in South Louisiana put vinegar or salt or a combination of both in the water to boil eggs. One thing though you only put one layer of eggs, no stacking to boil. Stacking can prevent the shell & egg not to seperate from each other for easy peeling. I've used this method for over 40yrs, works every time. Have a blessed day. 🙋‍♀️💜🙏

To cracking my hard boiled eggs with ease I usually hit them on the counter giving the shell a small cracked then let them sit in the ice water until ready to Crack. I think thr water gets in and loosens the shell as they are then easy to Crack. This works for store bought and farm fresh eggs (I've given up my chickens!)
@CarolineSanders100
@CarolineSanders100 2 года назад
Egg peeling tip: I keep them in the bowl of cold water. Tap them against the side of the bowl (inside the bowl) then peel them under the water inside that bowl. The shells fall to the bottom of the bowl so it's easy to clean up after. My theory is that water needs to flow under the membrane so it can loosen the shell. works every time!

I've struggled for YEARS with peeling hard boiled eggs. Found a way on utube and it has worked 100% of the time. It's the cooking process. Boil the pan of water WITHOUT the eggs. When water comes to boil, then add the eggs and cook for 12 minutes. Rinse with ice cold water, let them set in cold water for 15 minutes, then peel. Don't let them sit too long. Enjoyed watching you and your mom cook together, I hope your party 🥳 was fun!

Buy a Dash Egg Cooker. You puncture large end of egg and place in holder narrow end down. Add premeasured small amount of water in cooker, push button and wait for timer to ring. Mine does 7 eggs at a time. Place eggs in ice water and peel. I use eggs fresh from my hens and peeling is a breeze. It is much faster than cooking on stove and less stressful. This was a gift from my grandson and now many in our family have one also.

This year, consider dehydrating or freeze drying celery leaves for those occasions you want celery flavor and have no celery. For use as a full bodied seasoning, the celery leaves which work best are those dark green, all but bitter, pungent leaves from a less than stellar celery bunch. The inexpensive, celery bunched sold as special purchases right before Thanksgiving work well too. I can't remembernif you planted celery this year but, if you did and it goes to seed, ce,celery, seed works pretty well in stuff too.

I just had to share this, I just recently found out that most celery seed is actually lovage seed not celery seed 😳 but lovage is like a close relative to celery. This really shocked me for some reason as we live in a time that seems so upside down and backwards that this minor thing should not surprise me at all..LOL

@@melaniewhite3300 isn't that interesting....When I bought the other day from the bulk bins, the seed seemed smaller, rounder, and blacker than I had remembered; and it didn't have the heavy scent I remembered.....Most often I have celery in the fridge or pieces and leaves in the freezer any more. However between shifting prices and potential availability issues I picked up some celery seed.

The shells just slip off and sometimes in almost one piece, just like the comment below. We all love deviled eggs. Queen of Crafts, Carol Duval, had a guest that made deviled eggs but set them top down on a piece of bread and cut around them so they were beautiful little white humpy things. Then she piped food colored icing thickened mayo around and over the top to look like gorgeous desserts, but they were deviled eggs. Took the kids by surprise but were so pretty no one minded. I hope you take a picture of the 'chicks' or bunnies when you finish making the eggs.

When I make hard boiled eggs for any reason, I follow these rules: •Start with eggs at least a month old if not longer. •Salt the water heavily as you would for making pasta. •Start with cold water and bring the egg temperature up with the water. Once cooked: •drain off the water it was boiled in then fill the pot up half way with cold tap water. Cover it and shake it like a red headed step child. This will crack the shells and depending on how old the eggs are the shells will come off. What shells don’t come off, use a spoon to pry between the shell and membrane as your smart mom did. •Don’t put to task someone who doesn’t like the end result unless they really really really love you and you plan to reward them greatly. •remember Mother’s Day is coming. 😇

My Mother used to buy eggs fresh from a farm. They were impossible to peel until several weeks later.

so chicken eggs from the coop, if you put them in freezer for 30 minutes. Then boil them, they are easy to peel. Guess how I know! The freezer gets the white away from the shell.

Just curious, why is the yellow cake called Chinese wedding cake, what makes it Chinese? 🤔
@KappiKappa
@KappiKappa 2 года назад
Yeah I was coming to see if anyone else picked up on the cake. Maybe just calling it grandma Junes would be enough. Yellow cake marrying a yellow pudding 🫤 smh

@@KappiKappa I even rewatched the part where she was talking about and then making the cake to see if there were any reasons as to why it’s called that but nothing
@KappiKappa

No, I imagine it’s just an old recipe with insensitive naming. I know my own grandmother grew up having names for certain candies and things that were down right racist but over time they changed for obvious reasons. Doesn’t mean the food has to change but could serve as a learning point

I always love watching the videos with you and your Mom, so wholesome and soothing. As for the egg situation the easiest thing I've done is to bring my water to a rolling boil and then place cold eggs into the pot. Since doing this I've never had a problem peeling eggs again. Hope this helps. Thanks so much for everything you have taught me about gardening, you have inspired me to stop being afraid and just start growing things.

I steam my eggs in a pot with a steamer basket. Move to ice bath and then pour some of the water off and gently shake the bowl/pot so they crack into each other. Then run under cold water while peeling. Not always perfection but usually does well! I’m completely jealous of both of your kitchens and the amount of space to move around. We work in a tiny 1950’s farm kitchen which is cute but not at all conducive to prep and cooking. Love your content…you’re one of my favorites!

Heya Easiest way to peel eggs Roll them on a counter top so the eggshell is cracked all over Peel in the bowl of water you have taken them from, make sure the whole egg in under water Once a bit of water gets under the shell it breaks the seal it has on the egg and the shell just comes off Hope you had a Happy Easter
