Funny how fresh, how good this still sounds in 2024. Saw them live couple times in Saskatoon, they were fantastic, very talented ..... great band ... great times
Every time I hear this song I love it even more, which is a very rare quality indeed. I also want to say that I'm very proud to be Canadian...but in a humble Canadian way! :)
Such an underrated, Canadian band. I just love the thought that goes into the lyrics, I really thought they would become a lot more famous, anyway they are in my view
The Pride of Saskatoon, SK. Some haunting riffs from Bryan Potivn on this cut, against a cold and stark yet beautiful badlands of Alberta. Rock on boys, rock on!
Wow !! I've never heard this song before today. It played on Iceberg Canadian rock station sirus radio. I rocked it out in my car thinking it was new. What a jam.
I'm 40 years old and never heard this song until they started recently playing it a lot on a local rock station... I thought it was catchy and new. I'm now blown away to find out it's been around since the 80's.
This is one of the best late 80's Canadian pop songs, I never get tired of the greatness of craft. Fantastic, melodic electric guitar solo. True North Talent at its Best!
I was born 1956-08-08. so naturally I had to give it a crack. In 87 I was busy raising kids and such and fell out of CRACKING good vibes in the music department.
check this song from Wolfenstein game, I think they may have been inspired by this Northern Pikes song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--60W5jFUCno.html
Grew up in SoCal, and 54 years later, I'm tripping out on Canadian bands I hadn't heard of until now. Started by watching song credits roll at the end of The Trailer Park Boys (the movie) to "discover" The Tragically Hip, Hugh Dillon, and now the RU-vid robot led me here. Really diggin' the 80s sound.
I saw them live here in Welland, Ont on Niagara St. Back in I believe 1988 to 1991 at a place called the Aqauduck. Awesome show. I bumped in to Jay by coincidence a year or so ago on FB. Told him I had seen then.
This is such a great video. Iconic. And it was my first glimpse of the prairie as a Vancouver girl. I even dreamt about this video. The crazy girl plays the part wonderfully. And I still love the song, all these years later. The Northern Pikes had an urgency that was so delectable.
My introduction to this band was very morbid, i heard this song of a video going over evidence on the Delphi Indiana murders. I have never looked back, Canada really has some hidden gems.
The entire album was a part of my early/mid 20's. So good, so poetic. Very well written music, and sadly as so many good bands go, never got the recognition they deserved. I'd love to do a _slightly_ heavier version of this, but, as they say, Tomorrow Never Comes. 😔
Met my wife at a Pike's show at The Windjammer at Isle Of Palms South Carolina 1989. Loved this song. She did too. Rest is history 😊 Video is terrible in retrospect, but, hey. It was 1987. Long life the Northern Pikes!
I heard this song over & over . . . But it was even more powerful after seeing the video. Because it was exactly how I wonderd. The man looking through the bottle was seeing a different world. Just like me! In front of his own eyes...
Reminds me of a GREAT trip to Victoria BC. When somebody gives you shroom-spiked tea and doesn't tell you... Weird things can happen... And THIS was playing when I thought I was having some kind of weird food poisoning, while everyone in on it started laughing at me. I'll never forget that song. At least they watched over me so I wouldn't do anything stupid after that shroom-infused tea, and the next morning I puked my guts out. My one and only experience. Too much disconnect if you ask me. And a very grumpy stomach for a few days after. Just like I'll never listen to Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" again, because I had that stupid cassette playing on auto-reverse all night in my bright yellow Sony Walkman, when I got REALLY sick with my first, stupid, football team drinking binge... When I hear that song play, I get sick all over again. I couldn't even SMELL Rhum for about 10 years after that. I had WAY too many Zombies that evening. The things I did to be a team player... I wouldn't do again. I thought I was being practical, now I'm just not really sociable. Whatever,, it rhymes... It's a cool song. Sorry about my meandering who-cares story... That song just popped those memories right out of hibernation. Sounds and Smells will do that.
It's a great song with brilliant instrumentation. I hear elements of Alex Lifeson's guitar style from his work on RUSH's "Grace Under Pressure" album. Maybe not consciously done, but perhaps likely inspired by.
