When I traveled, I would always purchase some beautiful skin care treatment from that country. It was a piece of the place I could enjoy but not clutter up my life. A great hand cream, a mask, etc. I've been around the world twice and came home with very little. I even purged my own items along the way.
That’s a great idea! I like to get tea towels and use them in my kitchen. Each time I use it, I have the memory of the trip and it doesn’t clutter up my house. But I do also collect some things that I really love.
A much needed inspiration during a season that is so full, yet so empty all at once. I needed the reminder that people and memories are more important than “things”. Every ounce of this video was taken in. Thank you and happy holidays ❤
Oh yes, in the main memories are much more important than things. When my dad passed he left a lot of possessions for us to sort out. My mum is busy downsizing her possessions so that she is not leaving too much behind for me to sort out. Thankfully at the moment she’s nowhere near leaving this earth. But food for thought for anyone who may not have so much time left and thinking about what you might be leaving behind for others to sort out. ❤
This was such a wonderful video. Especially the last part about our mortality. Leaving behind a box of stuff or memories of time together- I choose making of memories.
As I watch your videos I face them as a lifestyle more than minimalism. And, for sure, to be minimalist means to have aboundance of what really matters. Thanks for your video today, it helped me to center on the priorities. Merry Christmas dear Connie!
What a beautiful place you live!! I am just in the middle of getting rid of all the extra stuff we do not need, room by room. Am loving the change! Thanks for the video.
Ah thank you! This is so relevant for me right now. I have been living simply for a year now when all my belongings went into a storage container after separating from my partner of 27 years. I have survived in furnished accommodation with just the bare necessities. I long for my books and object d’art, but on the other hand I wonder what the hell is in there that I really need. I also read recently that Buddha said that all suffering stems from desire. Of course this all has to do with the transit of Uranus in Taurus as we redefine our relationship with what we Value. So many are wanting to escape the material world, live off grid in a tiny home and start a conscious community. Myself included! 😊
thank you for your podcast...You always bring me back to what really matters and what is truly important in life....your voice and words are very calming
I spent my Christmas morning watching this video of yours. As a minimalist for over 9 years I still need a daily reminder. Watching your peaceful and serene posts create inner peace for me which is one of the things I value today. As well I focus on gratitude and living in the present. I know what matters to me now and none of it can be bought in a store. I relate to and resonate with everything you shared in this video. Love it so much. Thank you for posting such valuable messages. Merry Christmas to you!
That was Beautifully said. Thank you for the Reminder as this time of season is all about the materialistic. One thing I as of my teenage son each year for Christmas is a list of 10 things he is grateful for. I cherish those lists and hold them dear to my heart❤. Merry Christmas wishes to you and your family🎄🎄🎄
Thank you. I’m making cookies to take to a Christmas gathering and just had the thought in mind that I need to watch something to center me against the tide of materialism this Christmas season. Your video was the one that my search best met, and I’m thankful for your video and the time you take in creating here on RU-vid.
I love how gray hair looks amazing on you and it doesn’t age you much. I wish I could rock my grey head as well as u do! Also, your channel is so therapeutic that I want to watch it more and more and buy less. As soon as I switch to other channels I start wanting to get things. It’s really powerful that psychology!
Hi dear Connie and husband, I see you are enjoying time in The Netherlands where I live. I'd love to invite ypu drink a cup of tea with me and show you a bit around! 😊
I’ve been following you for over a year now and it’s fun to see you here in our lovely Holland! In which city/village are you staying? Anyway, thank you for your inspiring videos. I’m not a big shopper either, but one of my New Year’s resolutions is to be even more of a conscious consumer! And to spend less money on things and more on experiences! “Collect moments, not things!”
Love this , and a great reminder for sure to remember all that we already have . I have been a minimalist most of my life and still think ( what am I missing sometimes ). But soon settle back to my comfort zone of having and wanting less . I dont envy those always chasing more as it consumes their lives , and forget to be grateful for what they already have . Merry Christmas 🎄
Everything you said is true. And the quote that was said. It is our relationships that are most important, spending time with our loved ones enjoying their company. I value time with my family, friends and dog most of all.
I'm so grateful that I came across your channel! The simplicity and loveliness of it all inspires me to not get caught up in the crazy busy rat race of it all.
That is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Your videos help me reset the balance in favour of what's important in life. Thank you so much, Connie. Have a wonderful Christmas. ❤
Beautiful video!! You probably know how very fortunate that you are to have a love in your life! I’m truly happy for you!! When I lived in England quite a long time ago, I became aware that people in Europe seem to live more minimalist lifestyles that the U.S. Still, I try to do my small part for the planet (I have discovered junk journaling as a hobby!) and try not to criticize others, but to look at manufacturing as a way to create jobs ( I grew up in extreme poverty), but I truly do hope that we all work together to save this amazing planet and do our manufacturing in much more thoughtful ways! I’ve recently been reading about the food chain process in the US and hope that more people educate themselves about that. I know many will not understand my thinking, but I do think that this next generation is going to do better than mine did!! 💕
Hearing your recount of how you and your husband were able to change focus is inspiring. The financial upheaval also changed my life, yet it took a while before I realized that my corporate suit days were gone, and in fact in some ways it was better. I agree with many of what you say even if I do not consider myself a minimalist. It is great to have someone voice what I think/feel even if others do not agree.
What a nice surprise to see that you are filming in the Netherlands! I lived 4 years in this city, Gouda and have good memories… Now I live in the east side (Ede)of Holland. I hope you had a nice time in the Netherlands.❤
Another beautiful, soulful video 🤍 Recently I visited the Netherlands and fell in love, and watching this brought back such wonderful memories. Merry Christmas to you🎄
Another beautiful video; calming, interesting, and helpful. Thank you, Connie! Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season. ❤ This week I have been very mindfully putting together a new capsule wardrobe; a Christmas gift to myself as I have recently lost some weight and needed smaller clothes (yay!). I have returned to your two videos again and again for inspiration, the ones about finding your personal style, and putting together your travel wardrobe. Your advice really helped me to discover a style I truly love, and I’m excited to begin a new year with a whole new look! So thank you for sharing your insights with us here, and for the lovely sense of style that you have. Love from Lea in Australia xx (ps, I wish it was winter here right now!)
Such a great video! I love all of them ❤ Thank you for listing in the description box links to what you are wearing....Can you please share a link for your boots? Thanks, Connie!
Your in my homecountry.🎉 The cities Breda, den Bosch in the south are worth a visit. Very historical and pretty. But also the mills at Kinderdijk. Enjoy your stay
Is this purchase in line with my values…😮 I pray the new year I will always look at that! Only thing matters is what we do for and with others and God all that matters in the end!
I'm new to your channel (discovered it only yesterday) and I see that you and your husband have done many of the same things that I have done (or have aspired to). I really enjoy the aesthetics of your channel, but you lost me at quoting Oprah. After a few videos I could see you were what was at one time called "New Age", but I'd hoped you could offer some advice that went beyond pop culture / psychology. That said, you refer to things taught by your older relatives and I encourage you to look to that sort of wisdom rather than modern society's offerings of pseudo-spirituality.
I don't think she thinks spending is bad but rather overspending is bad. How much do you need is a good question to ask yourself. Do I want this or need this? Will I love this next year? In 5 years? If I didn't spend the money on this what could I do with that money? It's just mindset that usually comes as you get older because you realize how short lived satisfaction can be. Maybe you own 50 purses how can really love and carry them all?Its very freeing. But do what makes you happy in the season of life that you are in. Just make sure you are not trying to fill a void in your that really can't be filled with stuff.
