The only think I hate about strong female lead is they sometimes hurt innocent people. You can have good manners and be strong at the same time. Such as sometimes violence is unnecessary. I hope young audiences don't learn anything negative from dramas. It's a fiction after all. You might get bad affects if you do such things in real life.

I can honestly agree with the first point like you don't have to be violent to be strong. The way they depict characters is wrong more times than not. As for the self-obsessed part, it does stand true for some characters while some are not that arrogant and I like straightforward people so I am not gonna say anything about that one. P.S. - I like all the female leads that are shown so don't take my comment to a heart and If you do please keep your opinion to yourself.

I don’t like how strong female leads always end up needing to be saved by the male lead in the end. I don’t mind that they need to be saved but they always need to be saved from danger they caused themselves and that could easily be avoided. All because they went to some murderer on their own without backup or whatever

One thing I don't like is they take away the feminine charm from the characters and give them somewhat masculine characteristics to make them seem stronger than other characters. It's as if being feminine is bad. I feel like it's kind of misogynistic. Every strong and responsible women I have seen in real life are really feminine. Nowadays they think hitting and swearing like thugs from the streets make a woman strong 🙄

Fairly sure that most of these are male-gaze-choices. Like Fiona in Burn-Notice. I did not like her, at all, but my ex lóved her and would compare her to me very often, like the sob he is. Fiona was the victim of assault, but barely showed any signs of PTSD, except for the fact that she was now a 'fighter' and loved guns, loved wearing boy-clothes, still had deep cleavage, would be slightly violent and manipulative but in a (to my ex) sexy way and she always had long hair and would be very ladylike when the plot asked for it (and always shaved everything, because guys are allergic to armpithair as we know) but she would not bat an eye if she had to sleep on the floor with cockroaches and somehow, the dirt only stayed on her skin in convenient places, and usually it was oil/grease from a car. I mean, as someone with CPTSD, I can assure you that her response to trauma is extraordinary and it was very special to see how she had every aspect of someone that was not assaulted. It was almost as if they did not know someone that was assaulted and just made up a sad backstory with no realistic PTSD.

Let's make it clear that the ones which had storylines were manhwas before they were kdramas. Producers chose them cuz they had storyline. Though I'm not sure what happened in 'True beauty' and 'Gangnam beauty', cuz they literally only changed school to college and cha eun woo stayed the same. The 2nd lead were both green flags, the 2nd female leads were both 😭😭

Sarcasm is great and all but the first point is an important one - men always want women to fear them, in our patriarchal society they can establish their rules based on fear of their violence. So it's kinda natural that women in doramas portraying strong characters defying this patriarchal system sometimes use violence and fear too, it seems like a natural counter in screenwriters mind. Like they are taking that men's part. In everything. Other points kinda prove the point too, cause all these traits normally are associated with men. Even the point with looks, men are notoriously known for allowing themselves to look whatever while demanding certain things from women etc In other words, great strong female leads, we need more of them and more ways to show they are strong, too. Not only in men-like way.
