My top two favorite books are Ella Enchanted and The Secret Garden. I can’t think of anything I hate about them. Maybe one flaw for Secret Garden is it being sort of slow. But that is just a minor dislike to me.
I misread this comment at first, I thought it was saying “I love when you say PIZZA in the middle of your videos” and I was like, he does???? I got so confused haha
right hahaha I was...not expecting that for sure. I thought maybe blood of Olympus or some of the relationships that were done weird, or issues with representation, but grover??
Percy Jackson is my favourite series and I adore it, but one thing I do find annoying (this is just Camp Half-blood Chronicles in general, so including the sequels, HoO and ToA) is that almost every single character either gets paired up romantically, or they have to swear to not date at all. I really wish we just had some characters who didn't end up dating simply because not every 13-18 year old (or anyone older either) is going to be doing that. I love some of the pairings with all my heart, but it just doesn't sit right with me that there apparently needs to be a reason other than "I'm not interested in anyone right now" or "I'm not interested in dating" for them to not be in a relationship. The idea of needing to swear an oath if you aren't gonna get paired up is just frustrating sometimes. Still obviously love the books though
Lilla Joba don’t hate me but...it kind of feels like Leo got with Calypso just so that he has a love interest. Sorry if I offended you :(. I still absolutely love Percy Jackson too!
@@tezeth_1385 Oh don't worry, I'm not offended at all. Leo and Calypso definitely did come out of nowhere. I don't necessarily dislike the pair, but it is kind of like we needed every main character in a relationship by the end of the series for some reason
I agree: that’s why I think Percabeth is like the OTP of the series, because we saw their journey and how their relationship developed, but then again some relationships are like that, like Scarlet and Wolf from TLC, different relationships like that exist but it did feel like it (Caleo) kinda came out of nowhere (No hate or anything, this is just my personal opinion)
@@randomperson7489 Caleo is kind of universally known as the ship that was unexpected. There is one pairing I adore that was a little out of nowhere, admittedly. I love Solangelo. But I think in that case the fact we didn't see them get together almost helped the pairing, because we saw quite a bit of them being together once they were and it's open to interpretation, since we don't know how long it took them to get together as it was between books. Caleo, while not bad, was just a bit random, we have a more concrete timeline, and their interactions didn't really make me love them any more, which is very different to Will and Nico.
being back on booktube is honestly such a breath of fresh air from all the social media toxicity. been watching for 8 years now and i pray that the booktube community will never stop making these videos 😭
hey I dont really understand the parents death because I'm currently reading a series of unfortunate events, I'm on the 3rd book and I'm watching the series on netflix in the same time (one book= 2 episodes). In the book the author said that the Baudelaire parents are dead I mean when mr Poe went to the beach to tell the children the bad news, he told them that their parents have perished in a terrible fire, but according to the Netflix show, the parents are alive, I'm not sure if it's a spoiler, if it is tell me, in the first 2 books they didnt say that, but we can see the parents alive in the first 2 episodes
I think it's very mature to be able to recognize that your favorite ANYTHING can have flaws. Doesn't mean you don't love it, just that you can be critical and even see things from the point of view of someone who has a different opinion. Great video!
A series of unfortunate events warned us about the ending throughout the entire book, and yet people are still mad about it. It warned you from page 1. Also, I actually liked the ending. The entire book was mysterious. It gives us a chance to imagine what happened while giving us subtle hint in The Beatrice Letters, and The Unidentified Auto Biography. :)
I'm doing a 24 hour readothon right now!!! I have read two books and am almost done with my third!!! Wish me luck😁 Edit. GUYS i finished!!!! I read nine and a half books 2,202 pages!!!!😱 iam really sad it ended but come back to this comment in November or December i will be doing a winter themed 24 readothon!!!!!!🌨🌨🌨🌨❄❄☃️☃️☃️☕☕☕ its going to be a cozy bookish time thank you guys for cheering me on i gave you guys a shout out in my 24 hour readothon which will be posted hopefully by the end of this week See you later for the next readathon!!!!😍😍
Rick Riordan is probably my all time favorite author. I love Percy Jackson and I actually liked Grover. I think if I had to critique something it would be the inclusion of fandom references. I know in one of the heroes of Olympus books there’s a reference to doctor who. Though it was funny, I personally prefer a book that is able to exist outside of a set timeline so it can be a fairly modern read regardless of when the reader reads it. I think riordan set that up well with the “no technology” thing. But doctor who is a tv show that will end at some point and no longer be a relevant reference ... and it requires the use of technology so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Jesse: "and I know that I'm a little harsh when it comes to romance and books I'm a sorry that I'm not that way but also I'm not sorry." Me: "Um yes I very much agree with that statement! I'm not into romance so..."
I'm reading the Lunar Chronicles right now and I was able to predict the first book's plot twist practically from the start. It made me question if I was too old to be reading these books lol. I am really enjoying it for the most part though. I had to wait on Cress from the library but it's ready to go as soon as I finish my current read.
I dont necessarily think you are to old, i just think you have read a lot of books and thus know the way of authors. I see some plot twist only on as well, but i just think its because i have read so many books and there is a limit to how you can do a plot twist without it coming completely out of left field. 🤣🤣
1) Cress is my favorite in the series, she and I just vibed so hard. 2) I don’t think the twist was set up to be a twist. The readers could see it easily, it was the characters who were surprised. It wasn’t so much a plot twist as it was us watching the characters react to the secret we already knew
I am on a Jesse marathon and I’m just totally hit by the fact that they colour of your eyes legit changes. I have read a lot about it in a lot of books *cough*twilight*cough* This shirt brings out the green in your eyes. And the T-shirt you’re wearing in READER THINGS I HATE video brings out the dusty blue in your eyes. They’re beautiful😻
I FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT THE "A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS" SERIES! I was so upset with the ending, because Daniel Handler (Lemony Snicket) left so many questions unanswered. I understand that the reason for that may have been to maintain the sense of mystery surrounding the story, and I admire the author for that, but I still want answers all the same. (Now I know how Hazel felt from TFIOS.) Also, I feel exactly the same way about the "Legend" series by Marie Lu. I adore the novels and characters so much, however June and Day always felt too mature to be fifteen. The way in which they spoke, and the mature, adult decisions they made caused them to come across as adults, and not teenagers. That being said, great video, Jesse! I love the idea of critiquing favorite books, something I'm really reluctant to do.
I thought I had heard that when Collins presented it to her publisher or editor or some third party. They were the ones who were like it's a YA, it needs a romance aspect. That it was also clear who she had paired Katniss with, but they wanted a love triangle so that they could push that for sales.
I absolutely love A series of unfortunate events and after I saw the Netflix series based on the books I was soo happy! They did the books justice! I love the movie too but definitely preferred the series, I’ve watched it 23 times back to back since it came out. Cried when it ended. Every time I cry when it ends. And I’m currently reading Cinder, nearly at the end, Kai is Hawt, Levana is such an amazing character and is such a well built villain, I need to know what happens to Princess Selene. NO SPOILERS IM NOT DONE!!
For Long way down I listened to the audiobook version and it was SOO GOOD!! it's read by the author and you can really feel the emotions and everything ahhh I LOVED IT SO MUCHHHHH!!
Don’t mind me just gonna go cry in a corner because Scarlet and her pairing are my whole life 😭 But you’re not wrong on the plot - it’s quite predictable but I liked the journey ^.^
I have litterly just finnished the 6 of crows dualigy (litterly 30 mins ago) and I can not think of 1 negative, so seeing 6 of crows in this video just turned the knife in my heart
Seeing the notification for a new video makes me just sooo happy and it charges me for the next week.❤️❤️❤️ Someone else that hates the cold weather???
MPHFPC SPOILERS. So Jesse are you saying you weren't comfortable with.. their age difference? Cuz if it's the case than OMG ME TOO! Ijust don't get this trope where the love interest just MUST be AT LEAST half a century older than the mc.. Just WHYYY..? Also love the video.))
You have gotten me to read soooo many books! Now I will go to the bookstore like "oh my gosh! I know that book! Jesse is amazing" you have gotten me to read Miss peregrines home for peculiar children. I really liked it! And sooo many other titles that I love!
It's been a while since I've seen a Jessethereader video and I just want to say I'm glad you're still here making such wholesome, enjoyable content, it's so refreshing
Biggest problem with The Hunger Games was the middle book. Katniss does nothing but react to the big things happening to her. She makes maybe two choices in the entire book that have any consequence. It would have been *SOOOO* much better if we had followed what Haymitch was doing, how he's handling all this behind-the-scenes intrigue that was actually driving the plot.
I love Jesse’s videos when I found his channel when I was at a low point in my life. His videos open me up to a new side of RU-vid and quite frankly a happier life because I have loved book since I was a child since I learned how to read. But I was always made fun of by everyone even my own family and especially my parents. Jesse was actually the first Booktuber That I watched and I realized that I didn’t have to be ashamed of loving Books that I could be my true Book loving self . So I just wanted to say thank you Jesse for all your channel has done for me.
The Inkheart trilogy by Cornelia Funke is one of my all time favourites (I’ve loved it since I was around 8 yrs old, so that’s 15 yrs of love and rereads) and a negative thing I have with it is the way Farid treats Meggie (can’t really say too much more with out spoilers😂). I know they’re young characters, but still.. TREAT HER BETTER!!! Other than that, I will never stop recommending this series❤️❤️❤️
Oooooh my gosh, I don’t hear enough people talk about those books! They were so well written and in the first book, I loved every single character. And then as I got into the second and third Farid definitely irritated me. He was really the only character I struggled with.
@@gretchen0222 I know!!! I’ve only seen a handful of people mention them in the various book groups I’m in and I’m always raving about them anytime someone asks for recommendations! And exactly the same as me, loved farid to start with, then he started to annoy me. I mean I kinda get why he was acting the way he was, but at the same time, if he says he likes meggie, show it!😂😂(so glad I’m not alone in my love for these books❤️)
The only thing I HATE about Six of Crows is all those long Nina-Matthias chapters. I care NOTHING about them! Except Nina's funny character. But I love Kaz, Inej, Jesper and Wylan enough to love the duology.
Definitely don't completely disagree with the things that were said about the book thief. But the only thing I truly dislike from this masterpiece is the chapter the thought of Rudy naked. The only chapter I skipped during my reread.
Okay I also don't vibe with love triangles but I have to disagree with the romance not being important in the hunger games. The world is on fire, yes, but people still fall in love, and it's kinda nice to know that even in the midst of a revolution there is still something as beautiful as love. Hell, our world is currently on fire, but I still love with all my heart and I refuse to let anyone take that away from me. If we didn't have love would we even have the strength to rebel? It wasn't the most important aspect and was emphasised a bit too much, but I think the fact that is was there shows that even when the world is burning we are still human
Criticism about my favourite book (harry potter) the writing and author I like the general world and some points of the plot but otherwise its pretty terrible.
My only need with series of unfortunate events is that violet, klaus, and sunny were literally perfect. They didnt have any flaws! I love them as characters, but I wish they had more realistic characteristics.
Since you bravely put forward your opinion about Grover 😂 I wish to confess with a dash of nervousness that I found Annabeth pretty freaking annoying in the first book . Of course I ended up loving her later on❤️ but man it was hard earlier.
This was so fun. I love what you said about diversifying reading to get to know other types of people. Fave book at the moment: Memory of Babel, 3rd book in Mirror Visitor Series by Christelle Dabos. Incredible story and worldbuilding, the most sophisticated plot and details I've ever read. One complaint would be, that in especially in the 3rd book kept tense waiting a bit to much with no relief. A thing that's mean to happen takes too long, for me anyway. Love your videos, Jesse.
I must disagree, I love Emma and Jacob. It is weird that she dated his grandfather but I can't help it, I love them. And I find Jacobs new love interest boring. Sorry not sorry🤷♀️
a series of unfortunate events! I need to reread them the last time I read it was probably about 4 years ago I agree with you, it's good but THAT ENDING THO
Hi Jesse, have you read the series called Cirque Du Freak? I think you’d really like it and it would be great for Halloween! It’s one of my favorite series and it would be hard for me to critique it except for a certain plot point.
