I decided to live a minimal lifestyle, after my mom passed away, and we had to sell her home, and go through 69 years of possessions. I always lived simply, but I still decided to declutter and donate even more things. I got very into it, I realized if I don’t love it, want it, or need it, out it goes. I donated to a woman’s thrift shop, all the money they make goes to woman who need to start over due to a bad situation. I decluttered every room, every draw, every closet , I realized it’s ok to give away things if you no longer wear or use these things. I now am very intentional, for instance I only own one purse for winter, one for spring/summer, I downsized my wardrobe by 75%.... and I found out, I can look like I am wearing something different everyday, neutrals, and accessories can change the look. My whole life has changed, I don’t just go shopping to browse and buy, I only go shopping when I need something, and then I only look for that particular item. I have $$$$$$ now, and saved, we have no credit card big bills coming in, I do use a credit card, but when the bill comes, we just pay it easily. I decluttered make up, hair products, life is so simple now. I only own one mascara, one small shadow palette, one lipstick. What I realized living this lifestyle is I am so much more happy with what I do have, and never want for anything. Your right Kyra” LESS is MORE.... I could never live any other way.. when people come to my home, they say they feel a very peaceful serene feeling
I know most people wouldn't agree but I have never worried about makeup expiration dates....use it until it runs out. I have never once had an infection or irritation of any kind. I'm 47 years old.
Probably fine for dry and powdery products. Lotions and liquids will start to disintegrate with time and become inconsistent. So those I toss once it seems funny or the expiration year was a long ago.
Some people when they go minimalist the decided not to have children, but I really want one 🥺 so I may have just one too lol I hope that is acceptable in the minimalistic life lol
Please don't change your accent for youtube! There's no wrong way to say things, it reflects the dialect where you are and it makes you unique! I watch your videos a lot so sometimes I will end up saying things with a Boston accent just because it's kind of fun!
Hi Kyra, I'm from Australia, a bit annoyed that your videos have been only recommend to me at the end of 2019!!!😔 I have been on my minimalist journey for at least 2 years, I have always been one but love learning from others. You are my favourite minimalist youtuber. I wish I would have seen your videos when you first started though. You are much younger than me ( I could be your big sister 😊) I agree with so many of your thoughts and am so proud of you! I am primary school teacher so I find decluttering and simplifying my systems and resources very calming. I am known as the 'minimalist teacher' hehe😊. Please don't change your accent, it's so lovely and you are very calming and peaceful to listen to. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. Looking forward to 2020 videos 😁🇦🇺
Biar jelah dia nak cakap slang apa pun, pada kami orang asia, british accent atau us accent sebenarnya tak wujud. You guys seem heard same for us. Takyah mengade la nak sembang pasal accent.
You should do motivational speaking and teaching at high schools. Teens ( all of us too of course) need to hear from someone young like you how less is more and how its not necessary, etc. You are very financially wise and teens need to hear that! Great job!!
Credit cards are not bad. What’s bad is when people Max them out and only pay the minimum each month. I also do the same thing you do. Use my card for bills to get cash back and pay it off before the month cycle ends.
I do the same. I have had a credit card since I was 19 and only ever used it for bills. Now I use it for everything but we only do that for the points. If we don't have the cash, we don't use the card.
I feel like a lot of people are mislead when it comes to "chemicals" in skincare products. Chemicals are in everything, water is a chemical. Many natural, organic ingredients used in skincare products can cause significant skin sensitivities that build up over time. Pacifica specifically contains in incredibly high amount of plant oils and extracts, which is basically like putting fragrance all over your face. I would recommend looking up how harmful any type of fragrance can be in skincare (even if it comes from natural sources). I love your channel but it is harmful to spread false information that can affect your viewers' skin!
Honestly dermatologists end up telling you to use ineffective crap too. If you want life changing information on how to actually take care of your skin, look up Olena Beley and watch the 3 step skincare method, as well as her other videos on "skinstuff" what products you dont need etc. Pacifica unfortunately is skin stuff, not skincare. Check Olena out, life changing
definitely try out etsy for some good plastic free eco friendly packaging for vegan makeup and skincare for when you are in need of a new one! it also supports smaller companies which is always a plus! lots of love from a fellow MA girl!🥰
You speaks so well and slow. I'm learning english so it helps a lot. ♥️ You have an amazing life. I will try that (minimalism) when I grow up and build my house.
Implementing minimalism in my life has saved me hundreds of dollars this past month and its Christmas season! I cannot wait to continue this lifestyle. I love your channel it has really refreshed me every time.
I have two wallets, but I have a good reason. One I always keep at home with Identification or cash I don't want to lose, my other wallet I take out with me, but it contains things like my bank card that can be replaced if I lose it.
I love your accent, mines pretty bad too, you really hear yourself in videos sometimes, I'm cracking up at this whole wadda-bodda (water bottle) part hahaha much love and God bless!!
I love the way you say concealer in your Boston accent! It’s unique and authentic and I love it 🥰 don’t feel you need to “correct” your accent/ pronunciations x
The way you pronounce things make you.. you! Also, may you do a video about minimalist wardrobe for the business industry? My job has certain dress codes and were required to dress business casual. So because of that I feel like I need to have multiple items for my everyday work clothing. How do I go about this? Help! Lol
I find that even though I decluttered my jewellery, I still wear the same two pairs. So I think I will revisit that draw after watching this video - thank you :0)
Firstly I'm so glad your RU-vid channel took off! You're really inspiring for me and the things you do are so approachable and give me hope to better my life. ♥️
I love your accent. Please don't change it! I continue to watch your vids because your voice is very pleasing to the ear (and the interesting topics of course). Gentle and calming. Keep being you!
I could tell by ur accent u were from Massachusetts. That’s awesome my husband is switching over to chase from Bank of America. I warned him. I use a tarte palette for coverage, eyebrow fill and eyeshadow plus five small smash box lippies. My issue about makeup if ur not a guru, u won’t finish them and I had tons of palettes that ur going to be throwing it out before u touch them. I buy makeup in small travel size now bc I never finish them or graze them enough. Ever. I only really wear mascara and lippies for regular days of the week and some powder from a neutral palette for going out. I’ve been trying to make a hair, product that moisturizes my hair, is a family lotion and can use it as a lip balm. I’m reduced to using oils right now; jojoba. Really good for the skin. I also trying to find a bar soap that I can wash with without zapping my hair and skin out of moisture. I also keep all my cards in my phone case and have apple Wallet, so I don’t carry around a wallet or purse. I have one going out clutch with magazine pics so it matches with everything I wear
I love your videos. When you asked us to comment what is something you own 1 of, it was hard to pick but that would be my TV & Hot Iron. This really puts things into perspective for me. Thank you Kyra. :)
The brand maskcara beauty is for minimalism beauty. I absolutely love them and it really does save space and time. You should check them out if you haven't! And omg I so wish I could do all of this 😭 you are truly inspiring!
I LOVE Pacifica! I was using this mascara from 100% pure and it was irritating me. I switched to Pacifica- no problems. I love them and most of the products I use are from them. 😍
Michaela once I finish up my no buy of skincare and make up and work through my collection they are on my top list of companies to support ! I love what they stand for plus the are cruelty free and made in America !
You don't have to correct your Boston accent! It's who you are and I love listening to you speak! Who cares if you don't pronounce it exactly as it's spelled, do people actually complain about this? We are all unique! I'm in Philadelphia and we also pronounce things the "Philly way" haha
I purchased a unicorn beetle phone case because of your recommendation. Its fantastic! I only have this case now. It does such a good job protecting my phone I dont need any others. Thanks Kyra for the recommendation. Btw great video as usual!.
I am starting to adapt to a minimalist lifestyle.. since I'm in the early stages I don't really have a lot of ONE items just yet.. I do have a lot of NONE items. I've slowly been educating myself about the products I use and consume. SO, I got rid of a lot of products and replaced them with healthier and safer options... I do wish to have less of things where I can own up to having ONE.. OH, I do have one padded bra. I wear sports bras or tank tops so I don't really need to wear a padded bra unless I'm going out some place and wearing that one shirt where I NEED to have a bra on.
In the UK you kind of need a credit card because without a credit score you don't have a chance to buy a house etc. As I understand it works the same in the US.
Having a credit card helps you build a good record, so if at some time in the future you need to apply for a loan, or anything from a bank, you have a good name, things are easier. Of course, you must manage the credit card wisely.
Somebody from Europe might ask you, why u own a credit card :) But I understand that Europe works totally different than US. I dont have credit card at all and I am totally happy, I dont need it and I buy only what I can afford 🤗
@@jamjamb123 In the UK we most definitely DO have the same credit score system. The correct use of a credit card does indeed help to build your credit score. 💳👍
priscilla L at least in Germany we do, we actually have several depending on if you are employed or self-employed. They don’t work the same way as your credit scores in the us I believe. Your score depends on your demographics, your living environment, how often you move and if you break contracts etc. Companies cannot access information they are not entitled too, for example banks can only see if you’re having accounts/credit cards/ loans, while your cell phone provider can only access the data concerning similar companies / contracts you have or had. The general score from a-z is accessible for every company you want to conduct business with. I hope I got all the information across, sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes
@@Louise_xxx in America, when you book a flight online, you need a credit card to pay. Also when you order items from online, you pay with a credit card because it is safer, more secure than debit cards use debit for groceries, and local shopping.
Nice and motivating video Kyra👏👏 trying my best in un cluttering and simplifying my life! I see you are growing a new plant, is that a monstera? I finally got one myself after watching your videos. By the way, I’ll be in Boston in February, brrrr
Chase has the best credit card :) I like the points - pay it off at the end of the month and you're good. The Pacifica Stress Rehab moisturizer from Pacifica I find is SO good :) Have to be careful though of fragrance. I have the crease less concealer too! Very good. Have a great day.
No. I don't believe she is exaggerating. I have about fifty or more lipsticks, more than 40 lip liners and close to 100 nail polishes. Sometimes these purchases are made because of being addicted to buying things "we don't need". This year I said to myself that I was not going out to buy things I don't need. This weekend I went shopping and bought 3 leave in conditioning creams. Why? Because two of them were on sale and one of them I wanted to try out. I thought about it real good and returned them. Why? Because I don't need them. I have such bad habits. 😢
@@rosaroja4208 That's amazing that you've returned them. The first step is realising that there is an issue, and then you work on fixing it. Keep up the good work! 👍👍👍
My lips are so dry. I have probably used 4 different lip products today alone lol. Burts bees, bite agave lip mask (got on sale) and an organic zero waste option I bought on vacation a few months ago. Oh and the cerave healing ointment that I put on my lips when I’m home. It is a little excessive but I like the variety 🤷🏽♀️ I do try to keep my lip products under 10 though. I also own just one phone case from Pela. I own 2 sunglasses 🕶 (one stays in my car as back up) I own one travel coffee cup, and one watch.
I bought the moisturizer due to you talking about it, along with the wash. I like the wash but not the moisturizer. My face just doesn't do well with it. My daughter is able to use it just fine. Something about my face.. :(
Damn, I am literally allergic to Pacifica. As a vegan, I was so excited to try out their products but every single skin product and even MASCARA i tried by then breaks my skin or the skin around my eyes in hives! I so wish it wasn’t that way! Great video, btw, xoxo
I never could wear mascara due to immediate reaction (which is a non issue as I haven't worn any makeup since I was 19) But I heard a lot of mascaras used a latex applicator, which makes sense as I am VERY allergic to latex. It's something to consider. Sadly my latex allergy is 1 of 2 reasons why I cant go full vegan (I do try to eat more plant based); the allergy crossed over to foods, so I cant eat avocados, bananas, melons, celery, and many more fruits and veggies. Ah, and other reason? I'm also allergic to soy :(
I just feel like almost all these things your listing are completely normal. I never even had the idea to purchase more than one wallet or phone case or whatever. Why would you need more than one?! You can only use one at a time. Maybe it never crossed my mind to purchase more than one, because I hate shopping and buying things and only buy what is necessary. Good for you that you figured you don't need excessive amount of stuff :)
You are so right. Less is more. My daughter and I are helping each other clear out our homes of excess material things. I have been saving so much money buying less things that I am taking more trips. I love to travel. Great video, as always! I love your Boston accent. Embrace it. ☺
It’s funny. Most of those things I also only own one of and I don’t even consider myself a minimalist... but why would I need more than one phone case if I have only one phone... or more than one wallet... or more than one eyebrow pencil... or more than one laptop case if I only have one laptop...? 🤔 To me this is the usual amount. Not sure if it’s the age gap or because we have different cultural backgrounds!? But to me that’s really all the normal amount and nothing that makes me wonder... 🤔 Except for that one necklace probably. I have more than one, but you are right. I’m basically always wearing the same one... and I would declutter, but received them from my husband and I don’t want to let go of those.
I like this other than the one credit card. If you have store cards open already, keep them open because this will help the 'average age of credit' on your credit score, but STOP using them and pay them off completely. You can just cut them up.. Now, don't be afraid of getting credit cards with GOOD cash back or points. Just NEVER buy what you can't afford immediately.
Credit cards are good if you’re sensible with money. My mum just uses hers for bigger purchases to get cash back and security (and pays it off so she never has to pay interest or whatever)
Store credit cards are the worst. They don’t really help your credit score as much. The best thing to do is have a couple cards with zero balance each month. If you have a balance on a card you want it to be under 30% utilization. If you have a card with a $4,000 limit and $2,000 you owe. Get another credit card but put nothing on it to bring your utilization rate down. Only get a second if you know you can hold back using it. Credit cards are fine. It’s the people who use them that make mistakes. They offer great Cashback rewards so why not. But you have to be smart about it
Through this entire video, I wondered where your accent came from because of the pronunciation of some of your words. Then you said Boston. You’re one of my grandma’s people! This is my first video of yours I have watched. I love it!
Wow I have discover, if I decide to get another one I might get a chase one, but I won’t get rid of my discover I’d just stop using it, So I won’t lose age in my credit history 🤷🏾♂️
I had one Kohl's credit card, one Sears card, one JC Penny card, one Citibank card, one Wells Fargo card, one.....I can go on and one. And now, I have ONE BIG PILE OF DEBT and one large monthly credit card bill after consolidating it all. Like she said only have one card. There is no need to get into debt for having department credit cards.😩😭
Alan Nabors don’t just stop using it swipe it at least once ever my 3 months even if it’s for a few bucks then pay it off again after 2 weeks so they know you are still using and paying it off so it keeps it active and like you are still paying and staying current
I have a Victoria’s Secret , Ulta , Lowe’s , Wells Fargo , capital one . I have some bills auto to in capital one and Wells Fargo then I pay it off on those . And only use my other 3 if I actually have the money to shop because they give you a discount with the card then I pay it right back to the credit cards , I was in severe cc debt and my credit score was 500 I’m up to my average of 798 ! Now took me about 5 years . Check out David Ramsey for finance tips ( he says no cc though ) but every thing else he has tips for are great . Also do the debt snow ball
Noooooooo I LOVE your Boston way of talking! Please don’t change it! You will get all sorts of viewers from all over the world and they all will have options. Please don’t care! I love the way you talk...Boston style! ;)
I own only one of the things you said and im not a minimalist :)) And about make up I always use what I have before buy another one , even if I dont really like the product.
Credit cards are only bad if you can’t pay it off! We have a credit card and we charge everything on it then pay it off. Yes easier to keep track of. Also shows you what you are spending and where you need to make changes without actually budgeting lol
