I dont know if this was ever brought up, but on the top bars where it tells you how much power you still have, that bar is actually clickable. It changes all the building to different colors and tell you how much power they are using. You can also click on the building to turn them off, saving you a few extra clicks. When you do jumps and want to turn off heavy power using buildings to preserve more cycles on the batteries, this saves time. Good luck space travellers!

@Caledorn Год назад
Y'know - that's a very good comparison. It IS quite like that. I remember when I was a kid and played games back in the late 80's and 90's - there was no "Easy" mode. Either you succeeded, or you had to restart. Over and over and over again, usually. So we did indeed have to practice and master the games back then. With the 150 page manuals... (If we even got those, since a lot of the games were shared between friends) 😂

Specializations are awesome, I have tried farming and space specs so far by building all related buildings in one sector. Space spec. gives nice boost to eva repair efficiency. Another thing I want to try is to produce so much waste from farms -which receives a bonus form farming spec. And use the waste for infinite water production. I think it is possible to get a self sustained farming sector with out need to mine ice constantly, however i havent done the math yet.

@@Caledorn You can get self-sufficiency with metal already in the first chapter (after the destruction of the moon, but even before Protagoras). I reached the 3rd level of technology somewhere in 1200+ cycles, in 5600+ cycles all the technologies were researched, 14 of the 18 solar panels were built and the ship was self-sufficient, although only the first sector was active. The main problem is the population that produced the waste. 800+ was too small for two sectors. About the production of water from waste... well, it doesn't work the way you think. The building only compensates for water during one cycle, which is not enough for the full operation of even one field.

Since its a resource management game at the core... its worth take the -1 penalty of DES and stripmine the systems. The only real resource you need to survive is iron for repairs... and that leads to the next tip that I find makes the game so interesting. The more hull integrity you have, the worst efficiency of alloy to repair, I currently have 4 sectors open with sector 1 EVA full time online and sector 2 online for about 40% of the time always riding on the 85%+ efficiency. Only using my 3th EVA for top-ups if I need to move. With tech u will generate waste and with waste u can generate small amounts of resources that really remove the survival aspect of the game. Finally. Always strive for 2 infirmaries (even if the 2nd is off for most of the time as a backup for accidents) and always work in optimal conditions. Not letting any workers die is also something that once understood, makes it trivial. The working conditions being suboptimal is a feedback loop.
@Caledorn
@Caledorn Год назад
Totally agree! I actually adress the -1 penalty in the latest MORE things I wish I knew video as a counter to the tip I gave here. Same with the turn off/on EVA, which is also in the new video. 2 infirmaries, keeping one powered off when not needed, is a great tip too!

Some of which made me feel rather silly since two of the things (sector grid size, and pause the game while a voice actor is talking) are clearly spelled out in either the tutorials or the options. There's a lot of things to deal with all at once, so it's one of those games with such a high level of detail and content (which I absolutely love) that I figured a video like this could hopefully help people 😊

If you have more quality housing then your cell housing you still get bonus. So you can build 1 cell housing for every 4 improved housing (125 - 40x4) without improvements in early game Cell housing and the 7x7 improvement buildings work great together and fit flush next to space buildings. Great for your space port and your industrial sector (space ports are 12x9 and steel mill is the same size) Great video...

Something I would add is that during the EXTREME early game, food is disabled until you ACCEPT the communal dining request. You can choose to ignore it for a short time period. This means that the faster you are at cleaning up all the boxes and getting your starting layout built, the more time you have to get the science to work on researching and building the EVA and Probe Launchers before having to build insect farms. In the ideal situation, the request takes enough time to be triggered that you get both your starting layout, the eva and probe, and your insect farms all built or being built by the time it bothers you. Which happened to me. For whatever reason, they decided to wait to like day 25 to make the request. And yes, this is actually how I know that they dont actually need to eat until you accept the request. How they can pull off such a feat of metabolism, I do not know. It might have been caused by me restarting the chapter and it not responding well.
@Caledorn
@Caledorn Год назад
Oooh. That's a very interesting tip! Thank you! 😊
@Daedwartin2
@Daedwartin2 Год назад
@@Caledorn On further playing, I actually found out how to make it consistent that you have researched insect farms by the time the request happens. You see, you dont get the request UNTIL that one women talking about the DLS is finished chatting about her prompt. If you use the time while each person is talking and wait for the game to automatically move onto the next communication, this gives you plenty of time before her time to talk is triggered. Hell, this tends to result in someone else being called up to talk that you otherwise be getting after her because their trigger is likely to be met as well and the game doesnt queue them behind her. I had enough time to not just clean the boxes up, but slap down a dock in the lower right corner 4 tiles away from Sector 2's gate, dismantle the original dock, slap down a bunch of stockpiles on the old dock's location, build my 6 starting houses, the EVA, a probe, my 3 starting ships, some more stockpiles while dismantling the ones built where the dock was, complete the moon situation, collect that science, then send the ship over to mars, fire off the probe, be a decent portion of the way to the next probe, have a single solar panel built and start throwing down the insect farms by the time she FINALLY is done talking. At which means as the mess hall is being finished, I can already ensure a stable food supply. I managed to leave by day 53. I might have been able to do it faster if I had built 2 science ships instead of 1 send one to Saturn and when the Moon-Mars ship got back just dismantle it and make my mining ship then.

I wish I knew researched items could be upgraded. It might be there in the text tutorials but you never learn about it through gameplay tutorials and they don't become available until somewhere through the second mission, and even then you don't require any upgrades until the mid-point of the third level, by which point you have missed on out so much research points from only having the basic lab's 1 point per 10 cycle or whatever it is. x_x
@Caledorn

Yeah, that one is definitely an important one. The game does mention it in the Tutorial section for "Technology and Upgrades" - but it's kind of overwhelming to read all that, and while I love reading books, I'm not good at reading tutorials and text in games because I just want to get on with it. Many of the tips in these 3 videos I have made are actually mentioned in the tutorials, but from having observed what people ask about both in my comments, and in the IXION Discord, I gradually learned what would be potential good tips to have in these videos.

i incorrectly stated a "biggest" tip as housing dont need roads incorrectly because of the fact once built they dont have any production or consumption therefore no need for roads to be attached to them after they are built (still need them if u want to dismantle) so its just a small tip but still decent because it allows u to build houses in corners by placing them 1 by 1 as u demolish the roads

You should only really give a ship one high priority task. It’s the task you absolutely need the ship to perform and if you double or triple up on high priority tasks you are just lowering the chance a ship will be doing what you need most and the amount of time it spends on that task. If you want it to keep working when it’s done all the primary task use secondary and tertiary marks. Always have a miner and a cargo ship dedicated to iron, alloys are literally one of two have this or your dead resources. The other is food so do the same for water once you transition to crop/algae farms. In kind of the same vein EVA hubs are the only space building that really get significant benefit from space specialization and it’s a really important benefit. Stack up your space sector with EVA and so don’t be afraid to give your industrial sector it’s own space port capabilities. The lost space is non-issue as the industrial specialization does not really affect production so you only need one or two of each building to keep up. Further, the industrial sector should be importing so much that having your raw resources coming in through another sector is just an unnecessary bottleneck.

Wish there was a simple way to prevent resources from piling up in the docking bay or stockpiles with no way to manually purge and discard them to make room for others. Also a way to have transport ships bring in only so much of a resource that can be stored in the sector storages in total to prevent overflow. Resource management is extremely annoying and unnecessarily complicated in this game.
@Caledorn
@Caledorn Год назад
You can turn off collection of a resource on your Cargo Ships in the Fleet Management. That's what I do when I see I am in danger of a docking bay filling up. Leaving the resources out in the pickup points in space doesn't hurt, and the resources doesn't go anywhere, and can be picked up later when you're ready for picking them up again 😊
@axelhopfinger533
@axelhopfinger533 Год назад
@@Caledorn True, but I'm usually too preoccupied with other stuff to keep an eye out for the docking bay resource status and quite honestly, the game only seems to only know 2 resource states: not enough and too much to handle. Also the fact that you cannot remove buildings without having room in storacge for the reclaimed materials is really problematic, as it prevents you from reorganizing your layout or correcting mistakes. The game outright punishes you for having too many resources. That needs to change.
@Caledorn
@Caledorn Год назад
@@axelhopfinger533 All valid points, that I won't argue! But don't forget that you can "get rid" of some alloys by shutting down your smelters and enabling hull repair even at low efficiency. If you have 3-4 EVA Locks that'll burn 50-100 alloys in 5-10 cycles. 😊

i found the "Learning Curve" Far too steep and the Prolog dose not explain things clearly .. such as you only controll the science ship.. the mining ship and cargo are controlled onlky by the fleet screen by selecting what to mine and what to carry, also when you make your first jump you are on a countdown clock by which i mean Your Hull is constantly taking damage which you need to repair but your low on alloys... and when you open another Sector no where in the tutorials dose it mention to put a mech factory down to be able to start building roads... most people would just assume the roads going to the Huge locked doors would continu through... erm nope ! then Exploding buildings are fun which happen when you dont have enough workers when a building blows up you loos upto 5 crew which them compounds the fact that the workforce is under too much pressure which is why accidents and explosions are happening. i was lucky i managed to get my money back, it is a shame cause the demo was really good.

I'm sorry to hear you had that bad experience with the game. It's definitely not an easy game, and I agree that they could definitely have made many things clearer. But I'm sure they'll address things along the way as they get feedback, so maybe you can buy it again in a year or so, and it'll be more fleshed out (and maybe even on a sale). One can always hope 😊

I have just hit one of the points you said!! I have about cleared out my first system and run out of science and its going to take like 300 cycles to upgrade my research lab. i may have to restart because of this...

Ouch. Don't worry about restarting though. That's a part of Ixion. I had to do that a couple of times myself - and I will not be surprised if I have to do it again before I get to complete the game...

I don't know how I'm failing at this, but I cannot seem to figure out how to export materials to another sector. I just unlocked one and already I'm losing it...your guide is handy...but I'm dumb.
@molybdaen11
@molybdaen11 Год назад
1) make sure you have assigned storage for the goods you want to move around in both sectors. 2) select the ressources tab and select the sector you want to import it from. 3) Select the type of ressource you want and activate the checkbox next to it 4) Chose how many you want to keep in the exporting sector (this can be done b typing in the number or moving the bar in the sector view on the right). Sometimes the ui need a few seconds to refresh, that's normal. Be aware that moving stuff between sectors takes some time.
@Caledorn

Not dumb, Lerista. It's complex, so I understand how you have struggled. I have considered making a quick guide for that too, but I'm also quite exhausted after making all these guides, so definitely not today. Romuland gives a great description in his comment though!

@leristamerello8225 Год назад
@@Caledorn Oh I fully understand, and thanks to that comment I got a slight better handle on that now. I now know how to transfer materials. I still failed that run of it, but a misstep is still a step.

I was confused for a bit till I figured it out. Click a checkmark it'll balance out stored goods between sectors. Say you set the Sector 1 to 50 and Sector 2 to 75. If sector 2 has 80 and Sector 1 has 45 it'll send 5 to sector 1. Opposite is true if you have 55 in sector 1 and 70 in sector 2 it'll send 5 to sector 2. I apologize this feels like a complex explanation.

One thing I haven't understood yet is the controls on the cryo building. You can choose to send workers and non workers places and set a numerical limit. Is there a better explanation of this somewhere? I couldn't see anything in the tutorial pages. Despite setting a number in the limit I'm still seeing both total population and just worker numbers be breached, despite another sector having a checkbox?
@Caledorn
@Caledorn Год назад
Hi Joseph! To be perfectly honest, I am a bit confused by that myself. There may be a bug there, OR it might be that it's the sector travel time (It takes 1 cycle for population to move between sectors - so from sector 1 to 3 would take 3 cycles for instance). Or it might be that it only takes precedence as long as the population in all sectors are not at the capped number. I am researching it, and also have asked the devs about it in their Discord server.

I haven’t played yet but have been waiting for this game for a good while now. Your tips are invaluable. Quick question though : How do you increase the amount of cycles your batteries will hold ? My guess would be by building solar panels in said sector, correct me if I’m wrong
@beetle3088

Solar panels just add available power. Build more batteries or upgrade them to increase cycles.
