My son and I had an opportunity to visit NZ a few years back (Auckland & Rotorua)! We really loved the country and the people! If I ever had the opportunity to live there I would leave California in a heartbeat!
I'm from Curitiba, Brazil and since i was 10, live in NZ is one of my life goals. Proud to say that in the next year im going to study in Auckland and meet the country. I really would like people to know that here, is totally normal to kiss someone in the cheek just to say hello...even a stranger, and no, we do not speak spanish
Currently in college and I already plan on living and working there as an engineer. I just love New Zealand ever since I was a kid. Please wait for me NZ!
so i’m from Italy and something you may not know is that there is a huge difference whether you are from the north, the middle, or the south. people are kinda different from one to the other and the dialects can be really understandable to each other
In my country, Chile, there's always little earthqueakes all the time. Other people really get scared, but for chilean people it is really normal.. good video. saludos! i want to fly to NZ soon
Hey Dani, quick correction to your video: New Zealand has THREE official languages, not two. English, Maori and Sign Language. Technically Maori and Sign Language are the only de jure official languages (i.e. declared by law), English isn't an official language by law, but it is de facto an official language (as in everything, including the laws themselves, is written in English).
Hey! Yes that's a great point, I was aware sign language is an official language here but forgot to mention it! Interesting that English isn't an official language by law.
As an American, I can’t even argue with American coffee being bad. I mean, there’s definitely great coffee here, but you have to be intentional about looking for it and finding it. When I went to Puerto Rico, there was good coffee everywhere.
Haha, I (Dutch) remember walking outside during nighttime somewhere close to Palmy and looking up. I literally said 'what am I looking at?' Obviously my kiwi boyfriend started laughing... 'stars'. I just looked at the stars for a solid 15 minutes or so haha
Not wearing shoes is mostly just a north island thing. Even when I lived in a small town in the South Island people would take their muddy gumboots off but they’d still wear socks. You’ll occasionally see it here, but about as often as you’ll see albino skateboarders.
I'm a new zealander and it's so weird hearing someone say they dreamed to live in my country because New Zealand is boring hahaha maybe that's because we have alot of freedom 🤔well whatever exspect to party alot and swim, hike and go on crazy rides because that's all New Zealand is obvious wise obviously theres little things on the side but there not the biggest noticable thing
Hi! I'm from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and we are looking to move to NZ in the next few years and something about here is that ppl never tell you how many miles of KM it takes to get anywhere we tell you how much time it takes to get somewhere
Well, I can tell you this. You don't have to travel for hours just to reach you nearest beach. As well, as supermarkets and other retail stores. They are all roughly 5 mins drive from your home. There are corner stores located in multiple areas, tho they are expensive
I am in total agreement on Whittakers chocolate. Had a work mate introduce me to it with the special All Blacks edition and have been hooked on it ever since. When I saw that I could get here in Canada I was a very happy camper. Go All Blacks
few pro tips for europeans after covid era: NZ is like a countryside for us, simply do not forget to have fun there, do not forget to take with you +50 sun bath creem when visiting them, they`re eating a lot of eags there, try also L&P drink and of course enjoy your stay in NZ it`s a great country :)
@@shhdsbhejsns2217 I was clearly joking, but maybe it's acceptable to go barefoot in your area? I've certainly never seen anyone down here in Dorset going au natural.
I was in NZ- or Aotearoa back in Feb/March 1990, at the age of 21. My first trip abroad on my own, actually. LOVED it-stayed there for 5 weeks. Still have that t-shirt that I bought in a hostel in Wellington "I decomposed at Beethoven House-Wellington, NZ".. LOL! Greetings from Oslo, Norway
@@robzul7846 Yes I am! I spent most of my time in NZ on the North Island (with the exception of a short trip over to Picton, Marlborough Sounds + a day trek in the Abel Tasman National Park)- next time (probably in 2022), I will focus on the South Island, would like to do some trekking there, Fiordland and a few other areas. Welcome to Norway.. that is, after the "Mother of all Viruses" has gone-which hopefully is soon. Should you choose to come NOW; you would have to sit ten days in a quaranteen hotel . Probably not worth it. In the mean time; check out some beautiful videos of Norway in here, for instance from a region called the "Lofoten Islands". Some nice time laps videos as well. Greetings from Oslo
@@bjrnjensen7074 I will definitely wait until this pandemic is over. I can't wait to travel again. Maybe when I come visit Oslo I will come and say hello. I have relatives in Denmark so I believe there is a boat I can take to your country?
@@robzul7846 There is a ferry that runs once a day. You arrive in Oslo around 8 in the morning, if I remember correctly. You can get really good prices, depends on the day and the season. Check out DFDS Seaways. Except for that, there are planes between the two capitals almost once every hour. The cheapest option is very often the bus- it takes 8-9 hours, and you can get a o/w ticket for as little as 30 GBP, if you are lucky and if you book in advance. Train is also an option, but you would have to change train in Gothenburg.
Im from Hungary and I really thinking moving to NZ. Why? 1 Because far far away to Europe. Here is too many shi.e what I dont like! 2 NZ is a Beautifull Island! I love walking in the naturel! Omg there is everything! Mouantins, forest, beach, volcano, Im sure I will love it!!!
Well I made it anyway! Thankfully I was already living here a few months before COVID arrived so I got to enjoy the country before the world ended! My embassy offered me a flight home during the height of lockdown but thankfully I declined and now I’m in a COVID free country! NZ is amazing! Very similar to Ireland with much better weather and the people are so friendly. It was the best decision I ever made. We are actually extending our visa to avoid going back to Ireland for as long as possible! Once things die down globally I would recommend for everyone to come here! 🇳🇿
If you at a restaurant if you enjoyed your service you can advise when you pay for your meal you can add a extra 20 dollar to the waitress who gave you a wonderful restaurant experience.
Hi Dani I came to NZ about 7 months ago. I love it here I am in the Northern Auckland. Would love to have a kiwi friend, but I am not too sure how kiwis think of us asian so I'm too shy to approach kiwis.
Hi Dani, thanks for another great video. Your dairies are our milk bars here in Australia. Also, your jandals are thongs here. Wellington is a great place to visit and is actually my favourite New Zealand city. I used to have relatives living at Island Bay years ago. Do you still have Watties Peaches there? That was definitely one of my favourite desserts when I was in New Zealand. Incidentally, here is a New Zealand town that I have problems pronouncing, Whakaangiangi. According to the map it is somewhere in the vicinity of Gisborne. Anyway, take care and all the best. Robert.
I grew up in newlands , Wellington but now live in Queensland, Australia . have you heard the joke about Wellingtonians. how can you tell if a person comes from Wellington they walk at a 45% angle lol.
Haha! It was soo incredibly windy in Wellington today so you're not wrong! How are you liking living in Queensland? I'm actually planning on moving there when flights start back up. :)
@@DaniWatt its a much bigger country so its hard to just go down to the shops. if you like nice clear days its good . Very hot 2 weeks each side of xmas, people nice but not as friendly as kiwis. depends on were you be going Brisbane and sunshine, gold coast very humid, marybourgh to gladstone nice then cairns to very top thursday island very tropical. i was a chef and have been most places in Queensland maybe i could cook something for you some day.
@@johnprater8191 Glad you've enjoyed it there! I am looking forward to the nice sunny days by the beach :) I will be moving to the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast depending on where I find work. Take care
@@DaniWatt what work do you do ? the gold coast is nice but can be exspensive i lived at miami which is between surfers paradise and burliege heads . i worked for alot of clubs and restarants down there so i can help with information if you are interested. i currently live in gympie which can be very hard work wise but i think things are going to start happening here gympie seems to be in the news alot lately new projects comeing up. sunshine coast eg maroocydore is nice not bad money wise , work average house prices not bad . Noosa is a nice area but very exspensive do you have any family over here.
I am from Grover Beach on the central coast of California. One thing that might shock you about living here and maybe throughout the U.S. is the number of HOMELESS people roaming the streets, at the shopping centers with signs begging for money, making trash piles where ever they make their shelters. You don't want to walk up any streams in our area because that's where you'll surely come upon tents. Drug usage the main reason for their situation so if not just plain mentally ill drugged crazies are really scary people to come upon.
Hi. I'm from South Africa. We have the arch rivals of the All Blacks here, the Springboks (lol). So we are also big on rugby here. I think something a lot of people don't understand about South Africa is that there are a LOT of people 'working' everywhere. For instance, at a petrol pump there will be one employee filling your car and another washing your window. When you visit a store there will be one cashier and one person packing your things into your bags and trolley. When you walk out to your car, you will be assisted by a car guard. He/she would have been "looing after your car" while you were shopping and they will offload the groceries from your cart to the car and most likely do some hand gestures behind you as you reverse to give you directions from your parking. I grew up here, so I'm used to always having small change for these kinds of things, but I think to visitors it must be quite strange.
I'm curious abut the NZ accent. To my ear it sounds like a somewhat attenuated Aussie accent, where the accent can be broader among many. Then of course there may be regional accents around both countries that may be lost on the rest of us. P.S: The coffee in the U.S. is excellent, because it doesn't come from here. We get it from Sumatra, Columbia, Ethiopia (where it originated) etc. Coffee in America used to be atrocious, but since the advent of true coffee culture beginning in the '70s it has only been steadily improving.
born and bred NZer, everytime I clk on one of these clips, it always mention the lack of shoe wearers, maybe I'm used to it, but I've never notice the lack of shoe wearers.
The most disgusting trait I’ve noticed with many foreigners, especially woman, is habit of sitting on tables, usually at barbecues, and social functions, but I must admit once the reasons have been quietly explained to them they seem to get the message and not only comply, but seem eager to inform their mates of the no/no.
Born in india, raised in Canada. Lived pretty much all my life in Canada. Ice Hockey is definitely big here but I feel like the stereotype is blown a tad out of proportion
Sounds like a beautiful place to live...lovely people! I know about the black sand fly's and I hear they're awful? Are they everywhere and is this true? I heard they bite, it hurts and the pain last 3weeks? Other than that l'd love to see your country! 🤗💕
In Norway, we also normally don`t tip - however, some still do if they felt that the customer service was really good (usually not more than 10%). Different countries, ,different rules. In Japan it is actually concidered RUDE to tip (!).
I’m from Alaska and Alaskans eat the most ice cream per capita in the US and surprisingly there are quite a few people that I have a pilots license in addition to a drivers license and you can Get your pilots license before you can get your drivers license.
@@karynpalaone4117 Yes, you are completely correct. I was mentally focused on American Sign Language and was trying to indicate that NZ was different. Our NZ Sign is unique to NZ, combining aspects of Te Reo as well. Cheers for that.
Dani, how dd you end up in LA? And how comes you went back to INN ZIDD? I am a Brit living in the USA with an opportunity to live in INN ZIDD. So i am curious about your experiences.
like2. Thank you for information about new zealand. Initially I wanted to visit a country that was nicknamed a hobit country. After the shooting incident in Chruschurch, I became thinking again to visit.
Guys i think he meant we handled the shooting so well he had an *extra* reason to come visit. Not many countries change laws immediately after an incident cough cough USA cough cough If i lived overseas I'd want to move here too after seeing that quick response. Like seriously we are literally ranked the 2nd safest country in the world right after Iceland on the Global Peace Index. Iceland's only better because their entire population is 360,000 people, whereas NZ has 4.8 million. Less cities = less crime.
Greetings! Long story short, my occupation allows me to work just about anywhere & I've always wanted to experience NZ while I'm young & able. I just don't know how to go about it and began getting realistic about my move as of early May. I've narrowed it down to Wellington & Auckland, but I'm open to other cities. I'm a young professional in my 20s & I'm just trying to gather as much information so I can take the appropriate steps to make this move possible by the end of the year God willing. Also, what's the current state in the country? As far as C-19 goes. Any feedback would be highly appreciated! Tysm for reading up to here! Hope to hear from somebody out there.
Wow you're really pretty:) I didn't know any of those things you mentioned. Honestly here in The U.S. you harldy hear about NewZeland. If I'm not mistaken alot of the Lotr movies were shot in New Zealand.
You live in Wellington and people don’t wear shoes? When did that happen? Wellington is the seat of government. I have lived in many places. Up north of Auckland perhaps. Anyone in the South Island would get frostbite.
If you're living in Auckland, I think it can take hours esp if you're using public transportation. If you live in a town, maybe 5- 10 minutes. Most people have their own car. It's very important to have a license and a car if you want to get anywhere in NZ.
Hello there! I'm from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 a small country beside India. One of me friend went to New Zealand to visit her sister and what she said to me, to be honest I Dont know which part she went but she told me night comes very soon there, as in by 8 or 8:30 pm it's all dark, rarely some shops open and what so far I heard from you. So please tell me is it true. Generally I'm asking to know how's the night life over in New Zealand. I studied me bachelors from Ireland dublin, so if you went to Ireland you know in Dublin night is kinda lively. I'd would like to know how's that over at your place. Ex; pubs, sports, things for fun or to do when free. Etc I'm coming to New Zealand on work permit. I'd really appreciate if you help with these informations. Thank you : )
The sun sets at 9:30 pm during Daylight saving,so long days,Auckland has the best nightlife, but is the most expensive city to live in.Pubs are everywhere, and we are an outdoors country, love our sports and nature.
I presume you would be Muslim being from a Muslim country so I'm surprised you are asking about the nightlife, pubs etc. NZ has electricity so when it gets dark we turn our lights on.
South Africa. We are going to move to New Zealand. South Africa is beautiful and all. But the rulers of the land are not making the best decisions, South Africa is going down hill.
