Kim Soo Hyun was NOT rejected for Boys Over Flowers. The role he auditioned for was actually the bullied student who was suppose to commit suicide that Jandi save in Ep. 1. And he GOT THE ROLE. He was even in the script reading. But during the filming the production suddenly told him he is being REPLACED w/ no given reason after he already memorized his script & is even at the filming location ready to shoot. That's why when he met the director again 3 years later after he blew up the director came to him & apologized for how he was treated back then. I remember it was even on the news back then & the MC said to treat the rookies well because they will be the top stars in the future you'll be begging to cast.
Now I think about it, it was for so hyun oppa's good. Cos people might have said that he got famous because of the drama like the other actors who were casted in it. But now, anyone can proudly say that he became top actor because of his hard work. Of course everyone does hard work, but there r some actors who got famous because of certain dramas. I'm glad so hyun oppa in not in that list. His dramas are famous because of him.
The fact that he was replaced already means he was rejected. But then all this is now water under the bridge as Kim Soo Hyun is now acknowledge as Korea's most bankable star and the highest paid actor of the moment.

He is financially helping his father, half sister and even that woman for whom his father left his mother and treat them like shit. My first KSH drama was My Love From Another Star. It was also my introduction to Kdrama. That was years ago. I was searching Netflix for some sci-fi, that wasn’t bug eyed monsters or space cowboys when I lucked upon a historical, sci-fi/fantasy, rom-com featuring production values and a man of alien beauty. Jackpot! Totally addicted and have never looked back. Thrilled he has returned from military service.

He did a drama in 2015 with IU called "The Producers." IU's character has a crush on his character (of course). Jisoo of Blackpink has a small role in that drama.

I have to share this .... Before IOTNBO , The only KSH drama I watched was 'you who cam 4m d stars' To b honest, I didn't like d series or him..... Mayb I was biased by You knw ho (see what I did der...huh...) at dat time.... Anyway I became reluctant to his works..... whenever I searched for most loved celeb in Korea... Dis KSH guy came up... I wondered for a while why he is so famous and wats ol d fuss about.... Years passed... N my lov for k dramas never changed..... Trios of k drama (Minho, jcw n ksh) all 3 got discharged from millitary and startd working... I was eagerly waiting for JCW's "melt me" and minhos TK: EM ( To b Frank both dramas were just a bit disappointing for mee...mayb bcos I expected more from these guys )...... And then IOTNBO aried.... Started d show half heartedly... bcos of him... But with each episode he just swooped me... After 9 episodes ... I became curious abt his other works. First i watched 'secretly greatly' , then 'the thevies', and 'dream High' and rewached YWCFS.. after 'the producer' man oh man .... Dat was D eye opener for me... It's when realised I messed up big tym for not following him from d beginning.... Being a kdrama fan and watching more than 120 K dramas... I should hv known him for what he actually is a long time ago.. Inspite the bad reviews I watched 'REAL' but I was totaly mesmerized by KSH... His acting n glamour in 'real' just took my breath away.... Hats ooff bro... I left purposefully left moon embracing the sun for last... Knowing he is phenomenal in it.... after watching now I can't get over him... Such a versatile actor... I knw its late but proudly a KIM So Hyun fan...
to be fair, soo-hyun actually had some skill and experience in singing and dancing prior to dream high. he wasn’t the best, definitely not in a cast of professionals whose jobs entail being able to sing to a certain degree, but i don’t think he came into it with zero skill, especially when you consider that he enrolled in the film and theatre dept of his uni. he was apparently in a production of grease in 2003 (which came years before dream high auditions as i believe they were held some time in late 2010) which leads me to believe that he had at least a few months of vocal + dance training (unless that production of grease completely omitted the musical side of it and turned it into a play instead). honestly, he wasn’t too shabby in dream high as a singer! was really pleasantly surprised by his vocals in the show and how much he was able to learn in those three months at jyp (actually a little impressed since jype isn’t necessarily known for having the most technically sound/well-rounded vocalists). I mean, you gotta give it to him, he worked really hard and now he’s one of the most successful actors in Korea. kudos to him !
