Ready Or Not is still in it's alpha state so there will most definetly be a lot of improvement in the future.
I love SWAT 4 but RoN does look very promising with its recent updates and I'm glad I can call myself a supporter of this game.
This comparision was made by me for entertainment only.

Also awesome how in SWAT 4 the civilians and hostages will often gesture their arm in a certain direction and say " he went that way " and a lot of the times it's correct to a suspects general area.

I agree. Those little interactions make the NPCs in SWAT 4 more realistic and authentic. Hostages often have some kind of personality even when not really detailed but you have different kinds of civillians and suspects to deal with and it feels more immersive that way.

Yes, that's one great feature. I actually completely forgot about this one... I'll tell you what, this feature is one of the most effective ways to nail a suspect; There's also another feature of NPCs in this game: when there's a suspect close to them, they scream, shout smth like "there's a gunman, sir" or "I can see one of the shooters" and I think it depends on the level (like in the Tarrrone tenement the civs and the suspects are part of the same group and I don't remember civs actually giving away the location of the suspects nearby; the other way round is a level like the Diamond Centre, where the suspects forced their entry into the building) I actually like another feature in this game: suspects, if cornered or if they spot the SWAT team, can aim a gun at nearby hostages and threaten to kill them (and they will, if not stopped). I'm curious whether they can lower their gun without the interference of the team (for example, if the team pulls back and avoids engaging the suspect) *Edit* I've recently discovered another possible feature: NPCs can interact with environment (not only with doors). For me it happened in Food Wall Restaurant: 1) There was a guy in the main dining area at the cash desk (probably a cashier) and he was playing the animation of doing smth with the cash register (there was an actual clicking sound coming from it). That was the first time I've ever seen anything like that, usually NPCs just stay where they spawn and don't play any special animations. 2) In the restroom a civilian was "washing" his hands (the water was coming from the tap and the NPCs was playing the animation of interacting with it). I have no idea whether the interactions are scripted and whether there are any more on other levels. I think I'll check it out later

You can’t forget about the level design put in the game and how you get Easter eggs and clues and news about future suspects down the line. For example Lawrence Fairfax newspapers were in the Qwik Fuel Convenience store and how he was a lead.

I thought i was crazy but one day i was taking a look at the animations and yes, it is correct. They do point to the nearest suspect location if the saw one.

Also despite having little dialogue besides calling out threats and confirming commands, the officers in SWAT 4 had their own personalities. They would make comments on the mission, the building or what ever freaky shit they find during a mission. This can even be shown in the tutorial ,where an officer mentions donuts and Jackson would say something like "You eat this shit? Its so bad for you" Jackson's in game bio mentions that he's big into fitness, so this is a really in character thing for him to say.

I agree and I had plans to include such little details in my next video actually. I loved this in the Left 4 Dead games aswell. Completly different game but for me it gave these characters believable personalties and I loved their discussions and stories. SWAT is very different and it would destroy the serious tone of the game if the officers would chat so much but these few little conversations they have really adds to the experience.

In 7:56 after he sets the charge and counts down he takes a deep breath before detonating which is an amazing detail for such an old game, and God, I miss it so much

9:23 what I'd probably like to see expanded, is to have an interaction where if you have a grenade out, you can throw grenades throw a peeked door and then close it immediately, so you're not exposing yourself for too long

I still hope mouse-scroll door opening and mouse-scroll walking speed adjustment will make a return. This would fix a lot of smaller issues which are present right now.

What annoys me in both games is that all doors free swing both ways. Sure, some doors do that, but the vast majority of them only swing one way. Part of the difficulty of clearing a room is how the door works.

There is a gameplay/AI reason behind that decission and this will definetly not be changed. At first it seems like this would easily be fixable and a slight change but it would actually be extremly difficult for AI and pathfinding. Not that I say its impossible but it would be hard and very time consuming to implement to say at least.

@@BreachBangBeer I agree. Recently i´ve seen a video where a game developer explains that doors are "Endbosses" when it comes to programming anything that has to do with them :D Like you said the pathfinding / AI.

@@Secret_Pilot1 I mean yeah, the problem is not to make AI interact with doors but when a door is limited to open only in one direction it creates a lot of problems and issues that the AI has to be aware of, like positioning, movement, pathfinding and animations. Its really not an easy thing to implement this in a game like ready or not where your AI team will stack up on a door before breaching or throwing nades in.

You can install First Responders mod. You can even pull the door to back and front. It includes Elite Force mod and many additional things.

I would like to point out that shooting gas tanks and other explosives is extremely unlikely to spark any sort of explosion in real life. RoN is a little more realistic in that regard, however, I do like the idea of being more careful of where you are shooting.

Well really it would cause an ignition, not an explosion but it would most certainly spark the gasoline and ignite it.

I think the developers of SWAT 4 might have even knew that honestly. They did ditch some aspects of realism in favor of gameplay, which I think were good choices most of the time.

its one of those moments where both communities try to communicate with the devs and hope they can see where they can make this game a easy masterpiece, it's not much work needed but it's the little things that make it feel more alive and real.

My personal suspicion with Ready or Not (aside from the seemingly de-emphasized less-lethal weapon mechanics) is probably best exemplified by the voice acting. Face Full of Eyes covered it best in their video, but there's a moment in the Taronne Tenement mission in SWAT 4 where both the player character and TOC are stunned by what they've seen, and their professionalism breaks for just a moment in the radio calls. I understand Ready or Not's current voice acting is likely placeholder, but if it matches the intended direction of the final product, I'm not sure if they'll be able to elicit the right emotional response for such moments. And given that Ready or Not's developers have claimed that they'll up the ante about such things (e.g. a school shooting level), I'm not sure whether current excessive gruffness in the voice direction will be enough to make those moments stick.

they've already announced overhauls to some of the existing voice lines, so I have hope that the voice acting will improve significantly in the future

@@dickyneedles8876 That is good, and I'm glad they recognize the problem, but if it's "higher quality/professional voice actors saying the same lines with the same direction", that doesn't really fix the issue. In addition, at least one other previewer recommends a mod that switches the dialogue for the 15+ year old recordings of SWAT 4 lines because, among other things, they made female civilians have a chance to flirt when detained (?!) (Shmillsyy, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L6IsSDWTNdU.html ). In a game whose trailer promises a "bust the human traffickers" mission, that is a bizarre and frankly absurd direction to use; that the devs cleared it at all, even for placeholder lines, does not speak to their ability to make the "emotional" realism of the game match the "tactical" realism of the mechanics, if that makes sense.

@@DavinValkri I'll say that may appear in some campagin mode. Most of the single player trailers strongly suggests there might be a single player campagin with a certain plot, Even with certain cutscenes or cg, especially the preorder trailer.

Another thing about the helm cams is that it's not split between blue and red like in SWAT. In Swat there are 2 separate keys for blue and red. RoN has all 4 cams bound to one key.

I saw both videos, which give nice comparison between the two games. There are many things already I like over the old Swat 4 an there are also things I miss in the new game. However considering this is early access I would say it is off to a good start. I think right now, the most annoying thing is the AI. Especially enemy/hostage ai. Hostages are dumb and running around and on some maps the civilians wear vests and ski masks and they keep running around so one would think they are suspects. Then the enemies have often light speed reflexes which doesn't give you a chance to even pull the trigger. So yeah ai needs work, but hopefully it'll get fixed soon.

I 100% agree. AI is one of the biggest issues aswell as the most important aspect of RoN. They definetly have to improve how they behave and react sometime in the future.

I was just playing through the Red Library level in SWAT 4 and in that level the mirrors in the bathrooms are extremely helpful because you can see if someone is hiding inside a stall or behind a wall just by at the reflection. RoN should've capitalized on the improvements made to "mirror technology" to better incorporate it into gameplay rather than making the glitched mess that it is in the video.

Mirrors work in RoN since a few months, there was a lot of updates and almost everything was improved and added that I show in the video.

@@BreachBangBeer That would be cool as well, one feature I missed a lot in SWAT 4 is the "go stealth/go dynamic" options, many times I had the AI SWAT members do a reckless conga-line through the doors and get killed one after the other, I hope in RoN they add an option to command the SWAT members to shoot from behind cover and be careful.

Saw both comparison videos. Good points! Let's hope the devs take note of what's great from SWAT 4 and its mods like the Elite Force, First Responders, and Back to Los Angeles, and then enhance upon them in Ready or Not ;) Though, I would say that the unpredictable suspect behaviour in RoN is definitely better. Suspects in SWAT 4 (even with SEF mod) is lacking in terms of their unpredictability.

Thanks. The problem with suspects right now is that their animations are not smooth and the often shoot and kill you BEFORE the weapon is aimed at you. The AI in general is less predictable because it just doesnt work a lot of times. I get your point and I agree with that but they have to improve all the AI in the game drasticly.

The grenade Launcher in SWAT 4 is hilarious though, flash GL is what makes the game for me so fun(aside from the near flawless systems of SWAT4). Nothing can match it especially of our modern era. That includes ambience, music, characters etc.

One thing that kinda sucks about RoN is that there isn't any dialogue between any of the swat members during a mission. A minor thing that I loved in swat 4 was that the members had personality in that game. The operators in RoN just seem soulless, but it could just be me. Also the yells in RoN do not come close to Swat 4's.

I suspect the countdown to start a mission is a hidden loading screen but the timer really pads the time. I have an SSD playing single player. I don't need nor want to wait that long.

The evidence thing about RoN is literally funnily annoying, there was this one time where i thought a hostage (actually a suspect, AI cleared it :P ) Though i didnt see his gun at first a guy came outta nowhere and i dropped him then his gun flew (i couldn't find it near him) then i found it infront of said "hostage" team thats covering was screaming in halls so i call in all of them to clear it which meant i had to look away from the guy whom i didnt cuff coz he was a hostage which isnt really a priority, then after ordering them to clear the hall i got shanked from behind BY THE AI I THOUGHT WAS A HOSTAGE REEEEEEE. (i didnt know i could manually order them to find guns like in SWAT 4, i just assumed they didnt)

5:58 having mess with Swat4 AI i can assure that they CANT see your flashlight. They can only spot you through glass and hear your sounds. All in all i think RoN suspects AI are WAY better in first contact with you , so much they are really scary. something i really wanted to see in Swat4 but never happened.

In SWAT4 they dont react to it, but modded they do. In RoN the animations when they rise their guns for example and overall movement is just not as good as in SWAT4 but its obviously still WIP. It feels like in RoN the people dont have any weight and draw, aim shoot instantly without you having time to react.

@@BreachBangBeer my 2 cents on that: i kinda feel they want to be the way is now. They want you to feel afraid of them , be on your toes. That doesnt means it is more realistic , is the feeling out of it that has to be. Swat4/SEF suspects are too much predictible , im not sure copying it is the right path.

Most of the suspects in RoN are on a level with fucking John Wick. They will sprint at you at ludicrous speed while shooting with pinpoint accuracy. I also had a nice interaction today: suspect with his back turned to me, weapon in his hands. I shout at him and before he even turned around, he oneshot me with his gun, that was not even aimed at me yet. Between me shouting and getting shot was a fraction of a second. While I like the gaming being hard, the AI is still way overtuned/bugged.

Blueprints of the game were uploaded by a player on the steam community page. I dont remember if thry were on the game *files* or the game *site*, but yes this really needs the briefing room to be as good as Swat.

For any new people here, the ADAM update fixed some of these issues, but it's still not perfect. Void is working on a SWAT 3-style overhaul to fix the team AI.

Might be half implemented in the game but everytime you report someone you see the icon for a dead suspect/civilian and also at the end of the mission you'll only see dead suspects and none incapitated.

they play sounds but functionally they are dead. you cannot execute them like in SWAT & they are still counted as dead. It's just fluff for immersion

I wonder if the AI ​​could change firing instances based on player behavior. Taking into account sound, light and vision. They could have positions in relax, attention and ready to shoot. This would lengthen or shorten the AI's response time for shooting players, also changing how the AI will look. Punishing those who advance without strategy, leaving AIs more alarmed and consequently with super high response times. Eg - Players who make noise at doors may have AIs waiting for them with high firing instances. Like when players kick doors or explode a grenade outside the AI´s room. - Outnumbered enemies in a room may be more likely to retreat than wait players for an ambush. - Numbered enemies can choose to stay and fight. Few should be able to rush players. - AI that sees or hears something can alert other AIs to change their instance of fire(with character animation running towards their comrades). All this behavior could be influenced by the enemy's life background, profession, fighting experience if they do drugs or not. Like characters on drugs could have higher instances of fire with low aim. Have AI shooting against doors or thin walls is very cool but only if they do this on a small area that represents the last player position when the AI was triggered. Respecting the caliber and material that bullets need to cross. Aimhack AI is not that cool without this small fixes. The game is awesome. We just need a slightily better AI.

the AI is quite amazing takes time to tweak, u cna def play with the values your self and tweak it to be more brutal and clever! but yeah "its old" in simple terms, just like old games, they behave like dumbasses or behave amazing! Anyway, many of these things or most of what u mentioned it is implemented in the original AI already! :) The main thing is... are u judging the AI according to the SEF MOD? Sef did amazing things to gameplay and Officer AI! but it completely dumbed down the Enemy AI

i remember the AI part in your part 1 of your Things SWAT 4 does better than Ready Or Not and it made me remember a video on why the SWAT 4 AI isn't perfect, and it's because the AI tries to focus on too many things at once, like doors, suspects, hostages, and locations from corridors to doors, but still i like both games, though hopefully RON fixes alot of those those things

Well I guess no AI is perfect and you are right with what you wrote but the SEF mod fixes a lot of the issues that SWAT 4 had.

actually now thinking about it again, the first 2 minutes are a perfect representation of SEF mod, were the AI does not work at All like OG SWAT4 does, the suspects are purely braindead, the first suspect is less than 2 meters away from u and its totally oblivious of your presence even wen u open a door heheh , the second part is even worse were the suspect just doesnt react at all and looks at you crouched. A better comparison would be RON vs Og Swat4 were the suspects are infact not brain dead and wayy more deadly than SEF.

interesting details and such for a game from the early 2000s and I agree,m even with the latest updaes, Ready or not needs some polish. Me. i kinda hate the dead on accirace of suspects in Ready or not. Combine that with the fact you die quickly even with heavy armor, it gets really frustrating. I got killed by a suspect as he glitched through a blocked door! Call me lazy but that is why i am glad if they give up instantly, and let my team al let do the shooting.

It was cool for me that if suspects sometimes dropped gun through wall or ground sometimes in swat 4 gun simply wasnt counted into overall evidence.

In this one you mention the evidence hidden in the ground. Another good reason to have the search and secure option into RoN. We could tell the AI to find them for us. Slight nuance to the inventory management, if I recall properly, you have more slots in Swat 4, but a slot of flashbang actually a single flashbang isn't it? Not sure anymore. But in RoN, you get 8. Still I prefer the Swat 4 loadout.

IIRC, a similar option already exists in RoN. I've used it myself a few times when I've struggled to find the gun that a restrained/dead suspect has dropped. It pops up as a option in the command menu if the game detects a piece of evidence, ie gun.

iirc for the slots, if you don’t want to fill three tabs with flashbangs/CS/Stinger/Wedge, there is a three-pack option just to fill out one slot, so it really shouldn’t be a large hassle

Probably wont happen because these videos exist to show how a pretty old game can still be as good or better than newer games even though they had a lot more limitations back then. Showing that a modern game has better mechanics than a game from the early 2000s would be kinda silly if you know what I mean. But I definetly agree, RoN got a lot better with all the updates the devs released since the video was uploaded.

If you also allow a bit of constructive criticism, I feel like this episode was a bit more nitpicky for my taste. For example, the weapon secure part is also an issue in SWAT 4. The Elite Force mod helps with the Search and Secure option (as you mentioned in your previous vid), but even then sometimes I just give up and leave that pesky last piece of evidence wherever the fuck it may be. Sometimes the body falls over a gun and then it's impossible to find/very difficult to secure it. With that said, guns evidently don't glitch through the ground in SWAT 4, but then again, RoN is in alpha, I don't expect this kind of bug to stay. Also, not being able to open doors after you pull the pin on a grenade/flashbang is a design choice, I believe. It feels more realistic and promotes teamwork, and I for one don't mind it at all. (You can still order one of your team members to open the door for you.) Now an "Open, Leader, Clear" option would be nice, but this is another thing you've already mentioned in the previous one. I agree with the one about the stances though, I can still get confused about being in crouch/walk/normal etc., but I'm hopeful that the HUD will reflect it soon. And the pre-mission timer! I never understood that part.

The 20 second timer in RoN before a mission pretty sure is supposed to be for when the story/briefings are added more. Odds are it will be where a map will be to look at (and hopefully a way to plan entry using a type of free-draw. Example is Payday’s pre-planning.) Though yea, feels a little odd you can’t even vote to skip it.

If thats true why put a timer there? 20 seconds for planing or briefing is not close to enough time. SWAT 4s briefings sometimes take 5 or more minutes and are optinal.

@@BreachBangBeer Yea. Feel like the amount of time will be changed eventually (if the intended use is what I think it is) Though even then not sure why it’s even there. Since it also has a feeling that it’s just leftover code of the PvP game mode that had been used awhile back to show off the game to some big names in content creation.

Notable that crouching in RoN has a disconnect between your head and your camera... crouching is really useful when breaching with a shield as it lets people fire over you... even though from your perspective it looks like they would pop you in the back of the head lmao

There is also something huge missing : The optical wand is made better on Swat 4 because you directly see the other side of the door from the display on top of the wand. Unlike in RoN which displays an entire new screen (not from the wand) making it unrealistic.

It is possible to change this in the settings. The picture-in-picture mode for the wand is not very nice to use right now though because of very unclear vision.

In swat 4, every weapon and deployable was useful, there wasn't any useless options, but ready or not is filled with garbage that has no use. it was also easier to change your equipment in swat 4's co-op, since there was a menu before and after the mission started that lasted seven minutes but could be skipped by all players clicking ready, so that you could more easily adjust your gear, in ready or not, they replaced it with an annoying hub world, can they just scrap the hub and replace it with a menu?

You can add attachments to some weapons. There should br a clip in this video where you can see how to choose them in your equipment tab.

Well, I am comparing a 16 year old game to a game that got not even officially released and SEF is almost certainly "the way to go" when you play SWAT nowadays. I think its fair to give SWAT a little advantage :)

No you shouldn't compare to the default SWAT 4. Default is old news. SEF mod turned it into the gold standard of tactical SWAT games. RoN has it so easy. Copy what is tried and true. Hopefully they can accomplish that.

now that was a good comparison between new and old game, RoN is pretty new and because SWAT 4 is a lot older than RoN it has less features from SWAT because devs probably changed and those who did change didn't know things that were in SWAT 4 could you also please tell me where to get expanded equipment?

Thanks a lot for the kind words. SWAT4 really holds up very well and is still a fun game. RoN got a lot of updates which improved and fixed many aspects of it and so the video is pretty outdated because of this. What you mean comes from the SEF mod I think which is basically the way to play SWAT nowadays. You can find it on moddb for example.

Crouching while walking is almost as high as walking straight. While in SWAT4 you stay low while walking crouched. I was part of the german localization team, so yes, german translation will be added soon :) German voiceacting however is not planned as far as I know.

I'm here ! Lets watch... FIrst is NOT in game... As far as i know. My PC can't handle their cams and i don't use them :( Second in game... Third is... Well There is a part of it because of customization. (And also voices with faces) Fourth can't tell because i'm not using breaching shotguns, but i saw clips where guys not breaching the door sometimes on distance, so i think its in game. Fith is again unknown for me... (But i think its for balance. Like you if they could be lethal, it would be possible to take three weapons) Sixth is... Ah.... I need to play some more time. Seventh is still true. Sometimes. And sometimes not. Eighth in game... Nineth is NOT in game. And i want that animation in game too :D Tenth is in game (backlight) Eleventh is in game as i remember... Twelfth is NOT in game (but i don't care about this one) Thirteenth is NOT in game, and this really is minus. I'd like to see this kind of reaction. Fourteenth can tell because of PC... 5:14 due to the realism stance of the game its perfectly ok that these cannisters don't explode due to the calibre of the gun you're using, if you were to hit the top however it would be nice to see an interaction where it becomes a projectile (if the top is hit) bouncing around the room possibly causing damage to AI and SWAT it hits and also dazing them like the less lethal shotgun does., or explodes if hit with an explosive causing AOE damage. Love these two videos you've done though they highlight some great areas for improvement and hope Void finds these

8:22 - There is now an icon near uncollected evidence in RoN, so it isn't as difficult to find. Also 8:29 this is not better, because now anyone who searches there will have no idea if the firearms have already been accounted for or not.

I find the hub area of RON pointless. It takes too much time to go load into another world then select your weapons for you and your team. And if you're playing coop you have to wait for the rest of the players to get ready. If someone decides to become afk for some reason the game is over at that point. The devs of RoN just need to Copy and Paste a lot from Swat4. Once that is done you can start to add more or improve. Seeing RoN becoming as complex with content as Swat4 is going to take a lot of time. Priorities now should be on focusing on the AI.

I’d disagree on that one. I absolutely love this area because you can take your boys and talk through new tactics you can test out new weapons while waiting till everyone is ready for the mission. And would be awesome if the briefing part would be integrated as well.

I like the hub area, especially for single-player, but the shooting range should get cut for multiplayer & just leave the briefing area. Players can go AFK in SWAT 4 too and you can't enter until everyone is ready... it's also pretty frustrating sometimes. A vote kick option would be another possible solution without having to cut anything, though.

Well, Swat 4 is the better game, no doubt about that. But Ready or Not profits from Graphics and more immersive Gun play, and I think there is a lot to come. I don't think that you should start a debate over which is better. Both games are great in their respective avenues and are a welcome distraction from the horrible triple A Market. I play both and the community around Milsim and these Sim's should stick together

the voice acting when you die or when you kill a suspect in RoN is pretty painful to hear, it sounded almost as if they're catching their last breath and after that its just silence, the voice acting needs some more yelling though

Never had this happen except for once or twice but when this happens and the gun falls into the void it will be counted as secured, so there are no points lost in this rare cases.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think I'll do this. The reason for these videos was to show how great SWAT4 still is after all the time and what RoN needs to improve. SWAT4 however is a finished game and wont get updates anymore except for maybe mod updates). So there is no real reason for making a video the other way around especially because most things that were done better in RoN are mostly because of the much newer engine, like graphics, animations and so on. It would just be unfair to compare those things.

SWAT 4 is way more immersive. Hope Ready or Not will catch up in the future. Want to mention a thing that SWAT 4 does better. The call for compliance. SWAT 4 the sound and the effect range are same and RON seems like the sound range is bigger than compliance sound. Also something I can't recall from SWAT 4 but RON does bad is sometimes can't close the door from side that swing to your face. Need to walk in front of the door way to close it. This is nonsense and makes people expose

Dont know if I'd compare these two. I mean obviously they are similar in some aspects but as far as I know zero hour is more pvp focused with pve modes where RoN is planned to be pretty much the opposite. Pricewise I'd say its too much for now. 40€ for RoNs finished state would be okay imo. On the other hand I have to say I support the game almost since day one so I payed a lot more... everybody has to decide for themselves about it.

And what do you mean by it removes briefings? At the end of the video I even show the complete briefing of a mission in SWAT 4 with SEF.

This could happen of course but thats why it is in Early Access. You dont have to support it if you dont want and just wait if they deliver the game which they're advertising on their website. As supporter you just have to trust a little bit in them to follow their vision. However I can understand your concern.

It's not reasonable to compare a 16 year old game with a mod that still receives updates (effectively 18-19 years of development time) to a game in early access. A lot of things you point out here are SEF and not SWAT 4.

I wouldn't say its a bad mod. It's easier as the vanilla swat 4 but the mod itself is pretty good. It adds proper widescreen support for a lot of modern resolutions, FOV sliders, more stable coop (at least in my experience) and a lot of little QOL improvements and features. I think I never used the heavier armor so I don't know about that but I know what you mean with the possibility to spam grenades with these 3-stacks that you can choose. But as nobody forces me to equip them I don't complain about this.

Why would raytracing matter if swat 4 (and other games) has reflections without it? What's more, raytracing is demanding on the PC and therefor not useful just for reflections. It's supposed to "enhance" graphics. Not make it manditory just to see.

In one point you complain about realism, in the next point you say its bad that you can shoot gas tanks and they wont explode. At least stay consistent with your complaints.

True, I meant there should be some kind of reaction. Gas leaking, the cans falling over, stuff like that.
