Don't want to seem biased or anti American, I am as American as they come, born and raised in the United States, in Michigan. When I was 19 I moved to Thailand, when I eventually came home, it was such a bizarre feeling. Everyone was fat, everything is big, roads, vehicles, stores, just going into a gas station was wild, it's just full of giant food products and sugary drinks, giant candy bars. Everything was dirty too, litter everywhere, as well as graffiti. There was so much that stood out that I had never noticed growing up because it was all "normal" to me, just they way things are. It wasn't until the reverse culture shock that it all stood out as so bizarre.

Back about 30 years ago, I headed a small technical group to visit our Japanese counterparts. On a weekend, we headed to a busy market. A co-worker suggested we could look out for obese Japanese. After walking 2 hours, one shouted one, "I found One". As we approached where he was sitting, we could hear him spoke American English. He was an American Japanese teen ready to chow down a hamburger.🤣🤣🤣
@-Zevin-
@-Zevin- Год назад
@@xz1891 Seriously, it's a running joke here that drunk drivers drive strait down the road, it's the sober ones who swerve left and right to avoid the potholes. It actually is a bit depressing how bad the infrastructure here is. There is even machines called a "reclaimer" that tears up once paved roads to turn them into dirt roads, because it's cheaper. While Asia is developing every day, it seems as if we are regressing. In another 50 years maybe they will start to cut the power lines too...
@-Zevin-
@-Zevin- Год назад
@@raylee5030 Ha that's too funny, my wife and I played this exact game in Thailand numerous times, try to find the fat Thai person, sometimes we had to wait a long time, and in the countryside it was nearly impossible, but if you ever wanted to win in Bangkok, just head to a Pizza Hutt or Burger king.

It's incredibly difficult to get anything done in the West these days with partisan gridlock and powerful corporate lobbies. Stagnancy has become the norm. Look at Africa for example. Western powers never bothered with helping to develop infrastructure on the continent until China showed up. Then the West cried foul and magically found the funds for infrastructure projects.
@LHITShappy

Agreed…I think partly it’s because China is a fast developing country. Also due to its somewhat ‘underdeveloped’ political and social systems, new laws/policies including new innovations can easily be introduced without going through all the slow stages of planning procedure and public/non-public voting like in the West, which definitely has its own pros and cons.

Your English friends must hated you for being a China lover. Truth to be told, it's just another culture, that's different than yours. I'm born and raised HK now living in Canada. There are always good and bad in any country. But one thing to be sure is what the Chinese government are doing to improve the lives of their people. It's absolutely mind blowing. The transportation network is constantly being improved and there are no special interest lobbies to slow them down. The government, whether you agree with it or not, is merit base as oppose to the western style, tear down the next guy so I can get ahead model. As a result, we are left with negative and hateful societies. It wasn't like that 20 years ago.
@david_zimmerman

Of course there are always good and bad aspects to any country. But if you chose to see only the good things and neglect the bad ones, anywhere could be a paradise. On the other hand, if all good things are intentionally omitted and only the bad aspects are scrutinized, anywhere could be “negative and hateful”.

Very well said. In the US they can't even build a single proper high speed rail due to these lobbying groups. This country is so out of reach that it makes health a industry than a public service like most European countries. On the contrary, the Chinese government answers to no corporation but to ordinary people. I know I sounded like a pro-totalitarian-ist but it is what I have observed. Many of the state owned enterprises take social responsbility as well. E.g. China Telecom has to provide fibre to each and every single village knowing that village with little population is never going to payback the investment. China High Speed Rail is making connections rather than making money, with only a few lines made profitable. And no privatisation possible. China is not without problems, but the single party system actually constantly reform itself to meet changing demands. E.g. the SOEs (Stated Owned Enterprises) including ones mentioned above used to be a nightmare to deal with for ordinary people, sharing similar problems of the SOEs in other countries, like unresponsive, ignorant and arrogant. But after a few rounds of reform now they are setting the new standards for value for money, good service and social responsibility. Living in China means you are entitled to the services provided by those SOEs which seeks more of social merit than investment return. I think China has the right mix of public sector and private sector therefore I have no problem give up a little bit freedom in exchange for the country to race ahead.

I think you're confusing England with India. Hatred is taught in India. I don't know if you mean England or UK either, people tend to confuse the two. Certainly the Chinese government isn't that popular. But that's the case for any countries that support Taiwan, Uyghurs, Hong Kong, Tibet. And that's most of the Western world at least. Also politics has problems in every country with corruption, including China. And plenty of HK people have moved to the UK.

I used to study and live in UK for more than a year. I just couldn't adapt the weather there. It always rains, and the cold and humid air made me suffer serious teeth ache constantly, and I had to eat a lot of spicy food (made of ginger and/or chili) to deal with it. Although the tap water in UK is drinkable, but when you boil it, you may find there are so many small white stuff like snowflake floating in it, which indicates the water is very hard. Someone told me that it was the reason why most of British guys had bold heads...so I always used a water filter to try to reduce the calcium and magnesium ions in the tap water to minimise the chance to become bold during that period (although bold heads may make people look maturer...). Yes, NZ is pretty much like a mild version of UK. I regularly visit there for holiday. It's beautiful everywhere there. The only drawback is the high cost for tourism in NZ. Everything is fairly expensive there except kiwifruits and mussels. Oh, the tap water in NZ is super pure and tasty (compared to the UK one).☺

Great video. Really enjoyed it. Must have taken the both of u a lot of coordination and hours of editing to put this together. It was very well done. I guess with the super high inflation in the UK now compared to China, it has to be very expensive to live in the UK. Not sure if New Zealand has similar inflation problems as the UK.

Hahaha, your video is pretty fun. New Zealand is a very beautiful country, and my first great impression is the cleanest of the public toilets. However, NZ is just too quiet, touring for less than 3 weeks from North to South islands, i began to miss the liveliness of city life and the food of my home country, Singapore. At least London fare better in terms of population and culture.

New Zealand is one of few livable safe country, nice scenery and not too crowded, not big enough to involve in geopolitics and too small to be invaded.

yes i see that my whole life especially with covid , i live in asia for 14 year (i arrive at 17) im still 34 now not too old despite the huge time spend here. A lot of people i know who come back to western for XYZ reason some because of covid travel ban and such , have difficulty to adapt even in they own country if they spend too long here. They mindset have change so much or they dont buy out on streotype or bullshit or racism and stuff plus they became some kind of hybrid(and im no saying they are bettter here) that don't entirely fit with native anymore. life is actually exceptionally good for foreigner here, like insane good, Technology/food/culture/convenience/people/travel opportunity /salary/job opportunity except maybe social welfare(which you dont need if you work).

Welcome to Auckland from my home city Chengdu hahah. Hope you guys were not affected by the flood. Recommend Chongqing Noodles (Albany), and Panda Noodle Express for authentic Sichuan noodle and rice dishes on North Shore. You should also go to Little Canteen for breakfast if you are around for a whole day.
