I love how pissed he gets, cuz he is rightfully pointing out to his ex fiancé that rather than stand him up at their wedding, which they planned for months, sent out invitations and spent money they will never get back, she could have told him the night before about her misgivings and her doubts. Instead, she just didn't show up at all and humiliated him in front of their friends and family.
Robbie is exactly right, everything Linda said here could have been brought to his attention well before the day of the wedding, even the day before would have been better.
@@sabrinaelkhamissi9440 14 World Religions have been started in less time than it took this one Jezebel to tell me she wouldn't date me 'cause I wasn't hers!!!!!
No kidding! If she was having second thoughts, she should’ve told him the minute she was having said thoughts instead of standing him up at the altar like a jackass.
When I was younger I was so confused by this line because I thought he was literally talking about the band (collar) around the neck of the shirt hahaha
Isaac Valvert Or worse, when you find out a big project you thought was due a little later and hence haven't started it yet is actually for the following week.
It was pretty much foretold in this movie when the Fonzie guy says you know why Happy Days got cancelled? Because no one wants to see a guy in his 40's hitting on chicks. Same applies to Sandler's comedy. It's cute when he's young, but not now that he's 50. Plus he ran out of ideas a long time ago.
Recycling the same jokes with the same second-and third-string sidekicks in all his movies probably doesn't help either..... He did SORT OF UNjump the Shark with his 2019 SNL hosting duties, esp, the tribute to Farley, but his NEXT project will be the real test of him re-defining his middle=aged career. but he seems too comfortable just remaking the same crappy movies with the same crappy people.
The "I have been talking to my friends" line. ;-) I remember in my mid-20's (back in the '80s) a girlfriend of mine, after I gave her Christmas gifts that I saved months to buy told me: "You know, all my friends tell me that you are a loser because you do not have enough money, but I have hung in there with you." At that moment two things happened: I actually realized that in her mind, she thought that she was being "devoted to me" in saying that. Second, that I was angrier at myself than her for having such poor judgement in relationships.
I literally fell in love with him as an actor in this movie. It remains one of my ATFs. I detest the amount of crap he’s done in his career but I can’t quit him. When he wants to be, he’s damn good.
I’m in my mid 30s and I spend a lot of time helping my aging parents with stuff and my dad still references this *ALL THE TIME* even when it doesn’t apply to the situation LOL
So true I e always hated these kinds of people in movies or shows who are more comfortable humiliating their other by leaving them alone at the altar instead of just saying no when they propose
@@AndreNitroX Well who knows how long they were engaged? Maybe when he proposed he was still doing the night shows and then when he transitioned to wedding singer she didn't realize she was falling out of love and by then the wedding planning was on track. but yeah... leaving him at the alter is cruel.
@@Kaboomboo i am going by the information given to us in the movie. But as far as im concerned you dont wait until the day of the wedding to break things off, unless your a sadistic person. Think of the cost, the emotional trauma, its the cruelest thing that could happen, and yet it happens in every movie with this kind of situation. And I dislike that.
I work in a kitchen. Every time I come in and the boss says “Hey I forgot to tell you but….” I respond with “Once again things that could’ve been brought to my attention YESTERDAY!” In this voice. Never fails to lighten my mood and make him walk away hastily. 😂
Yup. Besides, Glenn and Linda deserved each other based on how shallow they were. Linda had loved Robbie for his earlier ambitions of being a rock star, but dumped him for the lost ambitions. Glenn only fell in love with Julia because of her family's wealth and her mother's influence. However when Robbie learns from Holly that Glenn often cheats on Julia by dating on the sly(even which Glenn admits to in front of them), he was angry about it. Robbie appreciated being in Julia's company more. Even Robbie made comparisons of a life being married to her to a life with Linda. He sees Linda for the shallow and callous person she is inside Even when she was in her wedding dress trying to imagine being happy to marry Glenn, Julia saw the reality of being married him like inside and sees him for the selfish and shallow person he is. Instead, she envisioned herself being married to Robbie and tears of joy come out. In her imagination Robbie is the wonderful husband who would love and cherish her.
@@ladyfire44 He liked Julia because she would be a stable 'side girl' that wasn't after him before he was wealthy. He admitted Julia loved him before he made his money so he could trust her. He was basically setting up his safety net for whenever he didn't fee like going out for easy tail. But you're right, Linda and Glenn deserved each other, but even Glenn wouldn't stick around with Linda for 2 days lol
This whole scene is a combination of honest, relatable feelings we have deep down inside and hilarious overacting. Probably half the reason it's funny is how honest it is. 1. Guy holds out a line, fishing to see if it can be rekindled or salvaged. 2. Girl politely refuses, shows some regret and says some crap you'd hear from self-professed "relationship experts" that just live to poke holes in anything. 3. Guy mentions he could have used that information yesterday. We all wish we had said that but often we give up and hold the frustration in or we just try harder to talk our way back to her. 4. Girl gets vicious and talks like being uppity isn't a negative personality trait, then belittles him. 5. Guy loses it and snarls his frustration. No self-defense, no trying to make her feel bad, just yells at her finally. We all wish we did that more often. But usually, we try to defend ourselves and/or try to talk our way around it.
I proposed to my Fiance last month and 2 weeks in she decided we needed to take a break... I decided to tell her I wanted to know if she wanted to marry me yes or no... She has known me for 3 years of dating and all of my issues suddenly became amplified to her and, thats something I shoud have known yesterday!
I’ve always hated characters in movies who would rather waist money on an expensive wedding, humiliate and break the heart of their other by not showing up. When they could have resolved it by saying no at the proposal or atleast mentioning their doubts before the wedding happens.
She may have had a point, but not only does it make her look like a gold digger and completely unreasonable (while Julia obviously was very supportive in helping Robbie build a better life for himself), but she could have voiced her concerns before the wedding date, even the day before would have been better.
Yes but 60 bucks a pop is terrible money for a wedding singer even back then and he was running the band! Any wedding band that was half decent should pay $300 for a front man/booker. Maybe her point is he has no business sense and is too soft and easy going.
Overall I think the movie was silly but there were some precious scenes. On this one I get a kick out of her reaction when he says "Why do you need to leave Richfield?"
Just shows how out of tune they were. He wanted to stay and she wanted to leave. That's like one of the first things you should discuss when discussing the future.
The actress who played 'Linda' in this movie, also played 'Chloe' (aka the girl at the copy place) on 'Friends', the woman who Ross slept with the night that Ross & Rachel went 'on a break.' (Angela Featherstone)
the reason why I like the wedding singer more because my High School friend didn't invite me to their wedding because for one his wife didn't like me and she's a piece a work and it hurt my feelings because I wanted to see him get married and it made me mad where they should invite me the wedding I did nothing between them. Heidi
"The point is, I woke up this morning and realized, I'm about to marry a wedding singer???" - IMHO, the key line in the movie. Linda saw this as a deal-breaker, even if she should have brought it up *YESTERDAY!!!* Julia, on the other hand, came to love Robby, and him being a wedding singer or anything else didn't matter to her.
He is so good in this, especially this scene. The movie wouldn’t had worked without his acting chops beneath the comedy. My other favorite acting moment from him in this is when he was testing Glenn at the bar with the hot women. You can read everything he’s thinking and how he sets out to reveal the creep, then his disgust and worry.
Comedic actors are still actors. If you don't have some sort of talent in both delivery and timing, the audience won't buy your performance. Personally I think in both drama and comedy there's a fine line between being cheesy and just plain stupid. Good actors know the balance. I think Adam Sandler does exceptionally well with both.
As a friend I would've advised her to call off the wedding if she was having cold feet not let her ghost him in the altar. I've seeing marriages fall apart if there's cold feet before the wedding.
She made no sound points, but even if she had, they would've been more useful to know yesterday. Her excuses don't validate her leaving him at the altar; they just show her up to be the arsehole that she is.
Yeah I didn't say they validated her. But hey in this case he dodged a bullet. If they did get married and they lived the life similar to what she described they'd both be miserable. Better have one bad day, then a lifetime of sadness.
She lost any kind of high ground when she said “yes” to his proposal tbh. If she really based her entire image of Robbie based on his stage act and thinking he was going to stay that way forever (spandex pants, licking the microphone etc.) then that was just dumb. By the way, someone check up on David Lee Roth and tell me if he’s still like he was in the 80s 😅 people change. Linda was still in an immature mindset and wouldn’t have been good marriage material anyways. Robbie definitely dodged a bullet. Julia was much better for him. We can only hope Linda grew up at some point.
Hey, are we gonna do the karaoke now or what? Oh, no the karaoke was canceled Oh, okay, cool man. Once again, something that could’ve been brought to my attention YESTERDAY!
Final Warning. The answer to a bar trivia question about romantic comedies. What was the name of Robbie Hart's band? Only mentioned once, in this scene.
1:21 - this is possibly the reason I was named Robbie. Because that sounds exactly how I'd put it. Also I was the lead singer in a band too. Only hole in the idea is that I pre-date the film.
1:21 Me when i stayed home from school then the next day my teacher says you should have been studying but didn’t tell me to study when i was home sick
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that after the movie, she got a haircut and became the girl from the copy place, then slept with Ross while he was on a break with Rachel
I was surprised when Robbie (Adam Sandler) did the suddenly shouting at his ex-girlfriend Linda (Angela Featherstone) when he said, "Once again things that could have been brought to my attention (screaming so loudly) yesterday." She could've slapped him in the face as she orders him to stop doing the suddenly shouting at her. But he refused as he told her that his comment that he made was true. But my question is, Why did he say that for? But dang, Adam was so angry when he was shouting at her. But I have to agree with Siskel and Ebert on this one because they voted "Two Thumbs Down" on their movie review program in 1998.
@@TheChrisminator19 I mean, considering she stood him up on their wedding day, after all of the preparations and time and money that would require, I think I can understand why he would be pissed off at her for not bringing these issues up before.
Lmao I just did a doctoral disertation. My professor and dean 'Because you read this book, you don't need to give five scholarly sources, HOPE THIS INFORMATION HELPS!" Me, " things that could have been brought to my attention yesterday!
