For the Mac adapter, you could just buy a UK Mac cord instead. I think they're fairly inexpensive at the Apple store and might give you comfort re: your Macbook. I did this a few years ago as I had the same worry in terms of long term use with a converter, and it worked well!
The possibility to get a work visa that easily is not "almost a privilege", it is definitely a privilege. You're a lucky one ;) Speaking from experience of a person, who moved to different countries with a "third country" passport, all the bureaucracy you'd have to go through sucks the life out of you.

Worth mentioning that only British or EU citizens or Commonwealth citizens with a valid UK visa can register on the electoral roll. In other words US citizens (except in Scotland or Wales) would not be able to register on the electoral roll.

Hi Monica, very insightful videos about moving to London. By the way, how did you manage to survive without a NIN in place? As far as I know, lacking a NINo means that the emergency tax code would have been applied by your employer, resulting in 40-45% tax deduction. Did this happen to you?

I'm looking into moving to the UK from Canada next year on the Tier 5 Visa! You mentioned you have three months from the time of your approval to enter the country. Other videos I've watched have said 6 months. I'm guessing maybe it has changed recently?
Hmmm ya maybe that changed recently. My visa had a 3 month window. It’s a sticker they add to your passport but you can renew just that sticker if you needed without reapplying for the visa.
Hey Monica! Does the youth mobility visa allow you to travel within other countries in Europe as well? I'm planning to move to London in June, but I'm curious to know if your specific visa allows you to visit other countries in EU!
Hey Kayla, yes so if you're Canadian, you can travel anywhere that allows canadians without a visa which I believe is most if not all of the EU. The visa is specially to allow you to work in the UK.
Just a side note in regards to your National Insurance Number - you will often be given a National Insurance Number as part of your Biometric Residence Permit. If you have been given one it will be printed on the back of your permit - it is a 9 digit code beginning with 2 letters, then 6 numbers and finally a letter at the end (either A, B, C or D). If you look at your Biometric Residence Permit and see that number printed on the back, this is YOUR number which you can use when you apply for work and so on. You DO NOT need to apply for a number on arrival if you already have one. I'm surprised Monica didn't have one already to be honest given that she had specifically applied for a Visa in order to work over here and had already sorted out her job, but I am not an expert on the matter so maybe you have to ask for it first or something. Maybe, because Monica continued her work with her Canadian company, having the National Insurance Number set up as part of her Biometric Residence Permit didn't happen, but I would ask about your NIN when you begin the process of getting your BRP done.
