Oh yeah!! Thank you so much! Honestly the people there have such a zest for life and were so so kind everywhere we went. Really appreciate your comment makes the long days of editing worth it
@CultureTrekking You're welcome. I was disappointed that the Mardi Gras Museum was closed, and Imperial Calcasieu Museum said they only showcase the costumes the first three months of the year. I enjoyed their Museum without the costumes tho, and we went to Crying Eagle Brewery for a tour. Lake Charles is definitely a hidden gem.
I live in Westlake across the bridge from Lake Charles. Tips where to eat, steamboat bills is amazing seafood and my favorite item on there menu is. The alligator bites even though there an appetizer there good with the thick crunchy crust. Alligator taste like chicken by the way.
I’m from Sulphur, born and raised in downtown. Amazing to see how much it’s grown. Great seeing familiar faces! Adley (LC) is the best. I remember him as a kid. He used to be at the Children’s Museum and give history lessons.Thank you for that!! Also, it’s just Sulphur. Not Sulphur City. You can also say City of Sulphur. Also, there are many stoplights. Even being in NYC for almost two decades, I still consider it pretty decent size city. It was close to 40k when I left. Creole Nature trail is the best. I remember as a kid there was an alligator they called Grandmaw. She was HUGE and was so old. I haven’t been as a kid (over 30 years ago). Looks so different.
Omg! Thanks for all the info- sometimes it’s hard to get everything right being a one woman show but I TRULY appreciate you letting me know how I can improve for next time :) Glad I was able to provide a bit of nostalgia & thanks so much for such a thoughtful comment
@@CultureTrekking look, it’s freaking hard. I get it. We southern Louisianaians (especially) are very particular about it being correct. Not even full scouters and researchers from networks get it. Cajun history and culture is very precious to us and it has SO many different iterations that make us… us. That’s one thing I wish Sulphur was better about - tell all the history and not leave it to the museum that’s not really that great. There is a lot of Louisiana history, but a lot of the storytellers are passed.
Oooh! Would love to!! I honestly have SUCH a special place in my heart for Louisiana from the first moment I visited New Orleans when I was 15 - it was the first time I felt an abundance of joy and felt like I found a place I could FINALLY be myself - so many many more trips planned to Louisiana are definitely coming in the future.
The only thing that would’ve made this video better is if you traveled with a Cajun the entire time so that they could correct your pronunciation every time you said something wrong 😅 but as someone who calls lake charles home, I do appreciate that you covered your time there.
That would have been f’ing hilarious, especially if they corrected it with a whack-a-mole balloon hammer to my head each time 😂🤣😂🤣 I really was surprised at how much I liked Lake Charles and I think the people are really what made it have such a special place in my heart
@@CultureTrekking it really is an under appreciated place! The whack a mole correction definitely would’ve given it a comedic boost lmao! But it was an awesome video regardless❤️
I'm from Beaumont, Texas. The reason there are casinos in Lake Charles is that betting is illegal in Texas. They're are neighbors and friends over there in S.W. Louisiana.
I didn’t, go check out my other videos. I try to be conscious of not filming people who don’t want to be filmed and frequently ask permission. I also have a whole series on Plantations in Louisiana as well. ENJOY!
@@CultureTrekking As a native, the Black community is truly the essence of the city. Lake Charles wouldn’t have the iconic Steamboat Bills, incredible music, the entertainment is majority black. Honestly the best treasure of Lake Charles. Go back and focus on them. You’ll see LC completely different.
@@jsanns nah. Then no one would visit..im from dequincy and the black community almost has it where you cant even safely visit lake charles..thus is hear from everyone i work with
Lake Charles is a wonderful place. We have a great mixture of people! Alot to do and eat. Been here since 1962 and wouldn't think of leaving. I've been all over the USA, France, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Rome. I love it here!
