Magical mystical machine that embodied all the 90s electronic zeitgeist into its preset. Wonderful crispy sound, MIDIcal and Lovely portable device. Yamaha nailed it with this QY
I had one from 2003-2016 or so, about to buy another! I wrote a lot of songs with this. Then quickly went to a live audience. Just add guitar and vocals.
I have one of these little beasties! One of the cool things that you can do with it is mix and match the individual instrumental phrases from the presets, and so create something pretty unique even though it is made up of stock parts. The QY has some 3800 preset phrases of various types, so the possibilities are endless!
I did this for a lot of drum beats, and some bass lines back in mid 2000s with this. It was so fun to just hook it up to a PA, or keyboard amp, bring a guitar amp out and a singer. I was able to craft a few songs using the preset parts, and mixing them around to be my own thing. Ended up giving me pre mixed banger backing drums…back then it was this, Reason or Abelton…but Abelton was new and a bit more in depth at the time. I loved how the QY70 felt more like a on the fly live drummer. Prob got 4-6 songs out of it in a month or two. Recorded it out to protools, and made a live punk type band surrounding those beats/bass lines. It’s unique for its live abilities and quickness to jam computer free! That’s one thing I really liked about out all the presets, and being able to patch something unique to you on it fast. It was a lot more intuitive, and faster than having every one wait while you program on a computer. Or have to make stuff ahead of time…the spontaneity made it great!
Yep the QY70, QY700, QY100 and the keyboard version of the QY300 the QS300. I used all the QY range at some point, and owned the QY100. Currently have the QS300 keyboard and loving that.
@@audiowanderer hey, thx 4 yo rply ;) yeah, I was a big fan of everything Jungle / DnB derived - since I got my QY70 new back then in 1997. Yeah, Im that old! 🤣 It was considered to have "outdated" sounds back then 🤣 too 80s ish, but since the rise of Retrowave and Breakcore it's now a well kept "secret" sauce. After my unit burned die to a faulty powersupply, I recently got me 2 of them. Thankfully they're razher inexpensive nowadays. I also encourage you tonget a QY100 instead of a QY70! It's only slightly larger, it has a guitar input for the internal FX and... it takes cards (SmarMedia, I guess) which is a must (if your QY gets burned, briken, stolen etc. like mine, so your precious work doesn't vanish like mine - learn from mistakes of an old fool like I was one)
Do it now… and pray for that you didn’t storage the unit with the batteries installed. Also… probably the inner battery memory will be dead so you’ll need to replace it if you want to save your songs
