Don’t worry too much about that. Some Japanese schools teach English so that Americans could understand better. But still it’s better to learn Japanese as well just incase since there’s many people that may have not have learned too much English.

The reason why the trains in Japan close so early is so they can perform more extensive track inspections and maintenance to make sure they run on time without delays during the day
It's not early. It's normal closing time. 😑 If you say midnight is early, then what is the normal hour? 3AM? Edit: also, besides the maintenance thing, it's also for safety. Night time, with japanese porn culture, is a dangerous time for female. But at least Japan is better than India
The whole tattoo being a yakuza thing is fake trying to be PC for everyone overseas. The real reaason is that they think you are stupid for getting tattoos and they dont want your stupidity fouling up the waters... so to speak.
some more important tips: - in japan everyone walks on the left, but this can shift within stations, so be careful to look at the signs on the floor of where to walk! - be respectful to workers, bow when saying thank you, but don't bow too deep. - have fun ;D
If you have tattoos, try asking the front desk for bandages to cover them up. Every place I went to that had banned tattoos permitted you to enter so long as they were covered up.
Can't cover a full body tatt😂 I know a few people who are covered and they aren't in a gang but if you were dumb enough to ask them to leave because of their tattoos and possible involvement in a "very dangerous gang" then what are you accomplishing? Confrontation with the"very dangerous gang member"? Im pretty sure a dangerous gang would return and make you wish they were just permitted to enjoy themselves in the first place. Logic seems rare in these cultures.
You think it'd be possible to cover up a full sleeve? I want to get a sleeve done but Im hesitant to commit to it because I'd like to be able to visit Japan and not be super restricted if possible. Also what about hand tattoos? If you're out in public would you need to cover them with gloves or something lol?
@@FireDudeOnFiredoesn’t matter what the tattoo is. It’s just their culture, better to be safe than sorry just buy stickers to cover it up when going to “no tattoos allowed” places.
The fact that trains only run until midnight is actually good to know. Cuz in my home city here in Germany all trains run until 2 am and after that there’s „night trains“ the whole night. Also the fact that there is a Genshin ad in nearly every of your videos lol.
I do wonder though. Isn't it somewhat ironic to kick out people who just have tattoos, while the actual gang members will most likely still go in anyway via intimidation?
@@syrusangi8743 Yes, but obviously their objective is to prevent yakuza members as much as possible. It’s better to raise the bar of entry to be explicit force than to just give up and let whoever in.
@@OGSumo yeah but that would suck for my family because we’ve always wanted to go and my mother has a tattoo, that I drew, on her shoulder. I don’t think we would plan on going to water parks but if we weren’t allowed into some places that would suck ass because we’re already paying a lot to be there
My japanese boss said they became more lenient with the tattoo rule especially if youre a foreigner. They know you aint yakuza and gotta gets that tourism bread bruh.
Xtra tip. Chances are you will be doing a lot of walking. If your feet tend to sweat like mine grab some wet wipes from a convenience store and carry extra socks. If a place requires you to take off your shoes it will save you some embarrassment of stinking up the place.
@@Madcat1331 It happed to me lol Thankfully the wet wipes are pretty common in corner stores. Also have a bag or ziplock bag to store those smelly socks in your backpack. Or briefcase. The bags help because you don’t know when you will be washing those socks.
Yea. But I only watch the American version of that show (glitter force) cuz thats what i have access to. But I recognize the characters when i see them.
Another thing to not forget: the police there have the power to arrest for just looking suspicious or being a foreigner. In Japan, the justice system is guilty before innocent, so make sure you don't stand out too much or cause trouble because they are allowed to detain you for anything.

@@hughmongous5089 That can take a while. In America you can be arrested for "looking like someone" and thrown in jail for up to 24 hours while they build a case, this could cost someone their job if they suddenly don't show up to work.
Ummm, not really true. Anyone will be arrested if they’re doing anything suspicious. I go to an international school with a mostly white population, and live in an area with a lot of foreigners. If a cop arrests you for being a foreigner, you best believe I’ll throw a fit. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard

As someone who stayed in Japan for about a month, here’s some more tips and stuff to know: -Trains stop running at 12AM -Vending machines are EVERYWHERE, so if you want a drink, bring some coins with you. -Most workers will notice that you’re a foreigner and use a translator. Others will try their best to speak English or will just speak Japanese and expect you to pull out the calculator -The workers at stores will use a calculator to show you the money total, and when you give them the money, you’re expected to put it on the small tray on the counter. -Deodorant is hard to find, but you can possibly find it at a Seven-Eleven or Family Mart. -You’re expected to stay quiet on trains, buses, etc. -Taxis are EXPENSIVE… -Don’t take community trains because they take a LONG time. You can choose ones with reserved seats because those are the best. They’re a lot more expensive though. -If you need help trying to -don’t use the ticket machines at train stations if you don’t know how to use them. Sometimes, it gives you a smaller ticket that will give you a community train instead of a regular one. Try going to an actual ticket area where there’s actual people there. -get a SUICA card. They’re like debit cards full of yen that you can refill. You can also keep them as a souvenir -People say the clothing sizes are small there, but they’re usually kind of baggy, so if you don’t want baggy clothing, get a size up. -Shinjuku is CROWDED, so if you’re going with someone, make sure they don’t get lost in the crowd -They have urinals in the women’s restrooms in case a woman has a child that’s a boy that they need to supervise. -People wear masks a lot there -It gets really hot in the summer, so wear short-sleeved stuff -You may find Japanese murder hornets a lot, so watch out. Their bugs are pretty big too -don’t speak “anime Japanese.” It’s straight-up embarrassing, plus there’s a big difference between formal and informal Japanese words. -don’t say “huh?” Say, “eh?” Instead. If you say “huh,” you’re practically saying “What the fuck?” In Japanese💀 -Fruit are pretty expensive there, so I’d recommend getting a hotel that comes with a buffet or something if you want to save some money (eating out is pretty expensive) and want to eat fruits and vegetables. -Get an umbrella. It rains a lot there. You can find one at a Seven-Eleven, normally near the doors. -Get a disposable toothbrush and some toothpaste there. The disposable toothbrushes are actually really good. -go to Donquijote if you want to get some snacks, souvenirs, clothes, skincare, luggages, etc. -There’s ATMS at plenty of places, mostly at train stations, hotels, malls, and convenience stores. -Shop at the stores with a tax-free section. (If you don’t know where it is, ask a worker.) The workers speak English, too. -to talk to people in English, just shorten your sentences. For example, if you want to ask if you can take pictures of something, just say “Picture?” And point to where you want to take a picture. -if you plan to try a kimono, make sure to wear the right season for the kimono. (Yes, they have seasonal kimonos. They get kind of offended if you wear the wrong season) -hold on tight if you’re standing on the trains. IT’S SO EMBARRASSING WHEN YOU FALL BRO… -don’t dress in a harajuku, goth, lolita, etc. style there because they get offended if you aren’t a resident there. -don’t call anyone or play audio out loud in public places -If buying shoes there, they sometimes don’t have half sizes (5.5 or something. Just ends with .5) so get a size up (don’t get a size down cause you’ll regret it. I bought Converse in Japan a size down, but once I got back to where I live, they couldn’t even fit. -in dressing rooms, they usually have tatami mats, so take off your shoes -buy a luggage there because you are guaranteed to need another luggage. Plus, their luggages are awesome. They’re really easy to maneuver and carry around, and they have plenty of space. -Go to a chinatown. You’ll find a lot of stuff there.
I still don’t get why Americans use credit cards instead of debit cards, which are a lot more used in european countries. I think it’s considered being lower class if you don’t have a credit card in the States?
About the tattoo thing: tattoos, in certain cases, can lead people to be not allowed in specific hot springs, but don’t worry too much about the yakuza thing. Most people in the yakuza are japanese, and foreigners usually stay out of it. A tiny quote on your wrist isn’t going to get you nasty looks and bans from water parks.
Good point - I had to cover my back tattoos to enter various onsen, but I didn't have to worry about the wedding band tattoo on my ring finger. It's so small no one cared.
It's not that they think you are part of the Yakuza, it's more the association that tattoos look intimidating, and to be safe they just ask anyone with any tattoos to stay out. Every time I've been somewhere with a onsen and they see my tattoos, at least in Hokkaido, they always look super guilty for not letting me in and over apologize, it's so sweet. ; ; I've been here for 6 months now and I can tell you, I've been through so many pairs of socks, thats a very good tip I've never heard on a video before.
As a Japanese person, I want to clarify that we don't automatically associate tattoos with yakuza, although it's true that there's a long history linking tattoos with criminal organizations. Tattoos were used as a form of punishment for criminals long ago, and it wasn't until 1948 that tattoos became legal. The 'No Tattoos' rule in public baths and onsens was established to avoid direct conflicts; it was assumed that yakuza members would have tattoos and ordinary people would not, essentially acting as a dress code. Honestly, with the Yakuza in decline and a surge in foreign tourists, more places are becoming accepting of fashion tattoos, either allowing them outright or permitting them to be covered with a sticker or similar means.
Another tip: avoid nigerian stores/restaurants. They will not take "no" for an answer and will not let you leave until you spend enough money. Foreigners also aren't allowed in certain areas designated "japanese only"
I'm surprised you can speak English & quiet well. I'm impressed. Respect to you✊🏼 - Also, I'm not against learning Japanese, but I'm focused on learning Spanish currently.
My friend suggests to always bring a clean pair of socks with you especially in summer. Oh and if you have larger feel than average in Japan, having a clean pair of slippers on you might be nice too. They said cheap ones will do.
6.remember there is no substitles in Japan and cancel the trip to learn Japanese.Come back a year later and realise that Japan changed their national language
@@zuckergolf4442 Almost all trains are in english announcing everything in english too, every station is in english. street signs are in english, almost all food places will have english menus. as for people speaking and understanding english they are good. at least compared to every other country.. how many English speaking countries have people with basic japanese? heck even alot of the atms are in english. as for things that are not mostly thing you would expect. like small back alley places or small franchises
Yeah, the mafia gang term used in Japan is ヤクザ(Yakuza). There's also other customs like you have to wear slippers to use the bathroom and never leave your chopsticks erect on a bowl of rice, it's rude, and don't even point someone with it.
Another pro tip: wear durable socks in japan and comfortable shoes. You will be walking a lot and you may wear out your shoes and sock. I did not have a hole in my sock when I put them on but when I took my shoes off... Well that was embarrassing T_T;;
its not about “dangerous” when people with tattoos is not allowed to go the Onsen. it’s because the onsen is not just a hot water, it containts sulfurs and other chemicals. those chemicals would make a reaction to your tattoo thats why
I love those sushi restaurants where you get to take your shoes off and sit in a little booth… we have one in my town it’s just a cozy dining experience
Pro tip on onsens: Try airport hotel ones if you have a tattoo. They're more accepting of foreigners with tatts, and the one in Haneda is really pretty
