There are rock n’ roll lead singers and then there is Freddie Mercury. His flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range made his live performances the center of some of the most epic rock concerts in the '70s and '80s.
Queen’s music was highly influenced by his theatrical style, which defied the conventions of a rock frontman at the time, but it’s what set Queen apart from other rock bands.
Mercury sadly passed away in 1991, at just 45 years old, due to complications from AIDS. Since his death, there are still things being learned about the enigmatic rock frontman. Watch this video to find out the details!

Edward Lancaster such a crying shame that he died in his prime… Furthermore, out of all people. The remaining members of Queen decided to have Adam Lambert to be the lead vocalist? Like what the shit?! I mean I understand that Freddie’s last wish was that the show must go on (pun intended). But seriously, the remaining members could’ve and should’ve hired someone with much more talent that would make Freddie Mercury himself go “you’re good”.

I've loved Queen since I was a kid (almost 40 now). Welcome aboard :) You will never have a love affair with another band like you do with Queen. If you haven't yet, hit up their official YT channel. So much amazing music. Some of my favorites are Liar, Spread Your Wings, Somebody To Love, Let Me Entertain You, Dragon Attack and Jailhouse Rock (All Live @ Montreal '81), I Want To Break Free, Tear It Up (Lyric Video), White Queen (Live @ Hammersmith '75), Live Aid, The Show Must Go On, No One But You (Only The Good Die Young), Under Pressure (Live @ Wembley '86), but there is so much more! The One Vision documentary (what you see @ 9:06-9:12) is good stuff. There's a great line from Freddie that involves John Deacon in it :) Happy Queen-ing!!

I see now ... But they're very much wrong. Mother Love, the song they correctly said was finished by Brian, was recorded 6 months before Freddie died. A Winter's Tale is Freddie's last completed song. The Show Must Go On is from their Innuendo album that was recorded in 1989 and 1990. When it comes to trivia and other interesting stories like that, I find Wikipedia to be far more reliable source. I'm thinking of unsubscribing from channels like this. EDIT - My bad, they say the song was RELEASED as a single 6 weeks before his death. Still, bad job on this video overall.

Freddie was in love with Jim. It is likely that he left 50% of his income and his house to Mary because she was healthy and she had children. At the time Freddie wrote his will he knew that Jim was also HIV positive. He could not have known that Jim would live to 2010. I don't think him leaving the majority to Mary meant he loved her more. There is plenty of evidence of how much he loved Jim.

Wow: such stupid comments: If you go to see Queen in concert you will enjoy a brilliant show without Freddie. If you are waiting to see Freddie again you may as well hold your breath until you turn blue. lol Both Brian May and Roger Taylor are still around and they bring the music to life. The newest front man, Adam Lambert, does not try to copy Freddie's singing, he interprets the songs in his own way and does a great job. I've seen the show and it is a great tribute to Freddie. If you are such purists, you should never have seen Bohemian Rhapsody either.

"Whether or not his voice was really capable of hitting four octaves is something the scientists weren't able to determine" - if only there existed some recordings of him singing that could be checked with a tuning app or by someone with perfect or very good relative pitch... Also, it's not mentioned in the video, but that 2016 study based it's conclusions... by examining a Freddie's imitator. What kind of bullshit methodology is this?

Well, they can't just revive Freddie, and check out how his vocal cords worked. The best they could do to see how it may have worked in real time is to find an imitator who could sound super close. That's typically how that's done. You try your best to replicate something if you don't have direct access to it. The recordings of his voice were likely also thoroughly studied, but that's only going to reveal so much.
@wojtekwieczorek6397
@wojtekwieczorek6397 5 лет назад
I guess you're right, but I'm really confused why they couldn't determine Freddie's voice range basing on the available recordings - even on youtube there are several videos showing different clips from Freddie's lowest recorded sounds to the highest. Perhaps if he had claimed that he can go lower or higher then the recordings show, I would understand that, but the recorded material shows pretty much four octaves. Not to mention unreleased tapes used for layring the vocal harmonies, I wonder if they tried to reach out to the producers to study them. Besides, I wonder how close to the Freddie's voice the imitator could get.
@GTA2SWcity
@GTA2SWcity 5 лет назад
True that 'if we only had recordings' but alas we don't. Playing it by ear and adapting is an amazing feature even AI can't always do. So an impersonator is about as close as we're going to get like for a remaster of an album. That's essentially what remasters are in the stead of a deceased artist. Problem is (long and short of it) these may still not work. While vocals and guitars are very different, imagine if you will that guitar playing at its most proficient becomes expressions of the player. The problem with perfect replication, is actually duplicating the _imprefections_. I can pull off the voices of Beavis & Butt-Head, but there's some laughs butt-head does which I can't replicate. Matter of fact Mike Judge himself for season 4 doesn't quite sound the same as Beavis did in the 90's anymore.

Check out Barcelona album (2012 Remastered). Song titled Exercises in Free Love. Freddie signs the entire soprano part. I’m so happy that people are coming to know Freddie Mercury and Queen through the movie, but I really want people to stop bashing the band’s decision to focus on the music and Freddie’s relationship with Mary Austin. Freddie never wanted his male relationships or his illness to be fodder for the public, so why in the hell would his bandmates/brothers disrespect his memory by putting those issues in a film?! I’m all for LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈 pride but Freddie said himself that he never wanted to be a poster boy for the cause. Let his memory Rest In Peace and get over yourselves. His sister and Mary Austin and his Queen family knew him best... so I hardly believe they would dishonor him with lies in a film meant to honor him. Yes, there were chronological liberties taken to accomplish telling the story within the timeline of the film (they wanted to end with Live Aid in 1985) but his loved ones were not trying to make him look bad or themselves look superior to him. I can’t stand it when the public assumes they know more than the people Freddie himself trusted and loved.

@PerplexiaX
@PerplexiaX 5 лет назад
Deborah All true, but there are those that say that Brian and Roger had their own agenda with the film, not just to avoid any riff raff about Freddie's escapades, but to tell the story as THEY wanted to tell it, not necessarily as it actually happened, which is what the movie was supposed to be... a biopic about Freddie's involvement! Personally, I would have liked to see a little more in the beginning of the film about how "Smile" formed and what made Tim Staffell leave, how he and Freddie were friends, and how it came about that Freddie got the position of lead singer... all that was just too condensed! The whole film, for that matter, was too condensed, but, all that aside, it was just what I was hoping for!

@@antcare2804 A copyright claim is hardly damning, and far from unbeatable. Most claims are made by automated programs designed to recognize audio and/or video. If you dispute the claim reasonably, the copyright claim will be lifted. What you're describing is what I already said channels like this are: just afraid. A video like this could likely dispute a claim for the use of an entire song's vocal track... educational videos and critical videos fall under fair use. This video would be completely fine, even if there was an initial claim they had to dispute. Believe me, I've done it many times. Successfully disputing a claim doesn't affect your copyright record in RU-vid's eyes. And even if you didn't win the claim? Delete the video and repost it. Channels do that all the time.
