@@scottfrenzel true, i have adhd and couldn't have it out for a lot or my teachers because of how everyone ruined it, it was difficult getting better grades definitely
@@AryFemMtF Same. I used to use them all the time. I have really bad anxiety and adhd but I ended up not being able to use them because others were using them as toys. I just switched to fidget cubes and rings because it was easier.
“It’s a toy for you” THANK you. Many people find comfort in certain fidgets and it just really rubs me the wrong way when other kids use it to their advantage. Like, yeah. Sure. It’s satisfying and all, and believe me, I had one too. but stop pretending like we didn’t just take away a proper tool for struggling kids and make it wayyyy too mainstream and treat it like an excuse to keep toys in the classroom. Couldn’t have said it better myself man. ✊ Edit: y’all I’m not saying you can’t use it, I’m saying my thoughts on the stupid “it’s a tool” thing. His response was “it’s a toy for you” and I just appreciated the reply to that because it’s most definitely true that people use “it’s a tool” as an excuse to keep toys in the classroom lmao
The funny thing is, despite the fact I have the actual fidget toys to mess with cause I like things in my hand, I end up with small toys or random items in my hands to mess with instead the of the actual fidget stuff I own 🤣
I think there’s both pros and cons to having fidget toys normalized. It’s nice to see them getting popular to the point that teachers will have them available in classrooms, and you won’t face social ostracization from using them. But it’s also frustrating when the popularity gets them banned in schools, making kids feel bad for actually needing and being helped by them.
But honestly I don’t see why it needs to be gate-kept, kids being kids do enjoy having something to play around with and I do agree that it was likely originally made for people who actually needed them. It was a fun time and should be a happy thing to look back on
"Britney it's a toy for you let's me honest" There was a kid in my school named Britney that used the it's not a toy it's a tool excuse after they where banned from the class and then when I was aloud to have this squishy dog thing to help me concentrate Britney got mad and the teacher had to explain 1. I have ADHD so it's harder to concentrate 2. It's not distracting Britney then thought it was a good idea to come to my desk and take it, she got sent to the principal. Just had to share this because I find it funny
@@N08R76H ok, but that's what he was talking about. They were made for people with adhd and anxiety and that sort of stuff. It was fine that people used them as toys, but then they got them banned, which wasn't ok because people with those disorders could no longer use them
They aren't just for adhd they are used for anyone who has sensory issues. I have adhd and anxiety. My son is autistic and has adhd he uses fidgets to help with sensory processing disorder.
As someone who has severe anxiety and adhd, I used to use fidget spinners to help me focus when I was younger until they started getting taken away because of kids. I switched to fidget cubes and rings.
I also have ADHD & anxiety. I found fidget cubes to not be very effective especially compared to a fidget spinner, I’ve never heard of fidget rings so I’ll look those up
As someone with adhd, people making fidget spinners a trend made me so frustrated. Sure, if you want to get one for home whatever, but popularizing it had quite a few negative impacts on people who needed them for the reason they were made - fidgeting. For one reason, teachers would see it as a toy and a distraction, taking them away even from kids who benefit from it. Its association with memes and trends also means that once the trend ends and the memes die, everyone will make fun of you for using one, plus all the people who think they're better than others for hating things that are trendy will bully you right from the get go.
I feel like the idea behind fidget spinners was just thrown away. Seeing as they were meant (and still do help) for anxiety for a lot of people. My school literally banned them at one point. I personally don’t use a fidget spinner but I have several anxiety “toys” in my backpack. Some teachers don’t take kindly to it lol. I also uses my phones pop-socket sometimes 😂 but the nurse at my school introduced me to the “anxiety ring” low key addicting lol. I was trying to prevent an anxiety attack and it sorta worked but with the combination of her talking to me and relaxing me and subconsciously playing with the ring really helped. She even allowed me to keep it which I love. But o feel like schools didn’t take into account the actually helpful side of fidget spinners, because depending on the person they can be really helpful. Like I know my go to anxiety toy is either now the ring or a fidget cube
YES YES YES But I still find it funny that the spinners were meant for people like me (adhd and autism) but for some reason the hype made me hate them (still do) I don’t fully understand it
Exactly. They work great for me but I’ve found when an effective fidget leaves it’s target audience it becomes a trend and it’s no longer seen as a fidget. Pop it’s also had this problem. Those and fidget spinner’s are my favorite fidgets but they’re thought of as toys and not fidgets because they left the audience of neurodivergent people and became toys…
When is as in 6th grade history class my teacher just randomly pulled out a red fidget spinner and just started playing w it and I was like this really isn't like elementary school huh
"Snuck into the back section of Spencer's for 5 minutes before they kicked you out" bro what? I've been buying stuff from the back shelf since I was like 13 and they don't give a shit lmao
I wish I still had my moms beat up converse from when she was in middle school I loved them so much but the entire sole came off so I had to throw them away 😭
i love how you mentioned that fidget spinners were originally for people with anxiety, adhd, etc: THANK YOU!!!! so many people just think they were some stupid trend and it annoys me so much. these were banned in my elementary school, and now that my sister is there, it’s pop-its and other useful tools that are getting banned. sorry for the rant but thanks
I remember the day fidget spinners got really popular. Literally everyone brought them to school so the teachers banned them. I feel bad though because I knew people who used them to deal with stress and anxiety
Omg, the fidget spinners annoyed me so much. As someone who actually uses fidgets to stem and concentrate, it was extremely frustrating that everyone got them banned from the school to where even people who needed them couldn’t use them.
as someone in middle school, none of these are “cool” things anymore lol. edit: sorry, i should’ve added that it’s at least for my school so i can’t say for certain at other places, my apologies
I remember when my middle school banned fidget spinners. I was sad because I have ADHD and they actually helped me (normally I’d pick at the skin on my fingers) and they gave me a safe alternative. And then they got banned :(
I remember when fidget spinner’s became popular in my school. Kids were allowed them, until teachers had enough of kids not paying attention in class. Then many teachers banned them, and eventually, the entire school banned them. And then in 5th grade, my teacher said that we were allowed to use a small amount of slime or puddy under our desks to help those with ADHD. As someone with ADHD, it was really helpful. But then one of the “popular girls” from my classroom brought out, I kid you not, a gallon of slime they were playing with on their table. My class then banned slime and puddy, but luckily my teacher let me use some since I actually have ADHD, and need help focusing
Not really a fidget but all the stuff getting taken away bc of other kids reminds me of an invisible ink pen I had once I had literally just gotten it and was really excited and wanted to show my friends who had all gotten their own before me and I was like “now I have 1 too” and so I brought it to school (not really aware that apparently we were told not to bring them or something idk) and I didn’t take it out really only once and then this 1 kid at my table started pestering me to let him see it so I finally relented and let him see it No! He wanted to HOLD IT!!!! I was trying to work (parents being teachers kinda and they get in your head about doing well in school) and he kept pestering me so I couldn’t focus so I said fine and handed it to him and told him to give it back soon, well naturally my adhd brain quickly forgot all about it and I only remember after dismissal so I rushed back to the classroom hoping he’d left it but I couldn’t find it in his desk I began to cry thinking he stole it and the teacher asked me what happened I told her everything and she said that she had taken it from him because HE WAS PLAYING WITH IT!!!! Never had I ever had a toy out in the open for fear of getting it confiscated until the last day of school (which was what they did at my elementary school) Anyway she tells me I will have to wait till the last day of school Important to note she put all the confiscated stuff in this plastic bag Ok anyway so last day of school rolls around and once again I have forgotten all about the pen because it’s been at least a month I don’t remember but luckily my mom worked at the school and I would just go to her classroom every day after school so when I did remember I was able to rush back I look through the bag and IT ISN’T THERE Now how my teacher had set it up was she put the bag open on a table and said that if we had anything confiscated we could take our stuff when we left SOMEONE ELSE HAD GONE IN AND TOOK MY PEN WHICH THEY KNEW DID NOT BELONG TO THEM!!!!! That isn’t even the only time my stuff has been stolen It happened reports when I was in kindergarten and we went to the nearby preschool after school (school days were short for kindergarteners back then) and my friends and I who would go to the preschool would always bring a stuffed animal or some other toy with us for nap time because we were still expected to participate in nap time there idk why I once brought this gray kitty bath toy that was stolen at least twice and I distinctly remember 1 girl having me follow her to her backpack and taking it out and giving it back to me a few weeks after it was stolen once don’t remember how I got it back the other time and once my mom gave me this cute little stuffed puppy for Valentine’s Day and that was stolen from my bag too and I never saw it again! I would freak out and cry and back then we didn’t know about the adhd or autism so it was much more difficult And another time a little locket I had was stolen out of a cereal box book report (don’t ask but the locket was because there was supposed to be a prize in the box) and my teacher didn’t realize it was in there because she “didn’t feel it” because it was so light (it’s a plastic necklace what was I supposed to put in there bricks?) so while she took out all the others so that they wouldn’t get stolen she left mine in my box and guess what I never saw again? If you guessed the locket you are correct Now I have stolen things before (sometimes just me being a dumb kid taking toys and once even a crayon home from my preschool but the 2 latest times which were a few years ago was because I genuinely forgot I was holding them in my hand and 1 of those things was a small pumpkin) but the kids who took my stuff should have known better and that’s why people getting their stuff taken from them makes me so mad
When I was in elementary, my ADHD was very bad and I used to make fun of it, because of how I expressed it, in the form of rocking back and forth. Everyone in my class started bringing in fidget spinners and eventually they were banned from my class, but they really helped me, and my teacher let me keep one in my desk so I could use it when I needed to. :)
Fidget Spinners were made for people who NEEDED a fidget but then everybody wanted them so they got banned in classes which ruined the whole point for people who actually needed them. (I know all this because my brother was one of the people who actually needed them.)
The fidget spinners thing hits hard. ( I have adhd and I know others with attention disorders and so many fidget toys are banned at my school because someone on TikTok made them way to popular and now the people who need them to concentrate can’t have them without being called cringy or distracting)
as soon as i saw the fidget spinners i was like “nooo he’s gonna shit on them, they were made to help adhd ppl😭” and then you went about it in the exact right way. thanks so much. it’s actually so great when ppl talk about that.
i have autism and adhd and fidget spinners were a favorite of mine. I found it so annoying when people would abuse them and pretend to need them. Eventually switched to other types 🤷🏽♂️
My gosh. Fidget spinners. I found my one recently, I still remember not being able to go anywhere without finding someone selling them. Now it's those pop toys, and who knows what's next! The thing with fidget spinners is my old school banned them in class so kids would put their books up (keep in mind, this was grade 4 so we didn't have textbooks) and then they'd play with their fidget spinners. Not only were they so obviously hiding something, it was so noisy that it was obvious what they were hiding.
Converse are awesome! I’m a middle schooler now and they’re still the most popular shoes at my school. But idc if they’re trendy or not, they’re amazing.
Popularizing fidgets made it impossible for those of us who needed them to have access them as they were getting banned. Even with it in my IEP teachers still told me I couldn't use them.
Fidget spinners were supposed to help people who needed a small thing to fidget with during class but then everyone bought them so they got banned even for the people who ACTUALLY needed them. (I know this because my brother was one of the people who needed a fidget.)
Fun fact fidget spinner’s and other fidget toys were made for people with adhd and because everyone started playing with them they got banned in my school so the people like me who desperately needed them to focus and sit still couldn’t use them
Fidget spinners were meant to help with anxiety and adhd and whatnot. They ended up with the same fate as service dogs, bad people ruining a good thing.
thank you for mentioning the thing abt fidget spinners and fidget toys in general like on one hand i feel as though it helped like normalize like ppl bringing in like different things to help with stress (i bring in my stuffed animal to school nowadays and the teachers dont say anything, elementary me could only dream) but also at the same time the people that made it an "annoying toy" and a distraction in classrooms that got them banned in many was just,,,, im glad its died down but jeez that was a nightmare TT
Fidget Spinners were really cool when I was in the 5th grade and they got so cool that we weren’t aloud to even bring them to school. If they caught you,you would get them taken away
Converse are actually very cool looking. Maybe not the white and black ones anymore because everyone wore only those colours but the other colours are really cool.
The fidget spinner one hits too close to home and honestly it's just the case w ANY fidget "toy" ever. They are designed to help people w things like focus or stress management but they get so oversaturated and just seen as toys
lmao, i still have and wear my converse from 6th grade. they’re extremely damaged but it’s just memories. they banned fidget spinners, slime, water bottles in school. i look back and damn. kinda miss middle school but shit was hell for me
Fidget spinners are mostly made for people with special needs, mainly for autism, they help to redirect your focus and give you something to do to prevent overstimulation from noises and other things
I’m part of that special group of people that fidget spinners were originally made for and I still enjoy them. To me, it’s an added bonus that they’re cheaper now. However, I also find it ironic that, during the fidget spinner craze, my _special needs_ school banned them because kids kept using them during class.
I was so sad when I grew out of my red converse high tops. I was also weirdly proud that they were a hand me down from my cousin. I didn't even look up to him that much lol
the fidgets were actually a smart idea, it made them more accessible for kids who actually need it, they were literally everywhere when they got trendy. and if you were in a program for adhd or whatever you had, the teachers would have to let you use it in class, not the other students who use it as a toy
While I am in middle school I've gotta say converse are awesome shoes think about it just some normal original black and white hightops or low tops match with everything, are comfortable and are just great I love them
when fidget toys were super mainstream it was my nightmare, like the only way i could focus or get through my day while not having panic attacks AND THEN TEACHERS BANNED THEM BC EVERYONE WAS LIKE THROWING FIDGET SPINNERS ACROSS THE ROOM
The fidget spinner ban in my class annoyed me cause it actually helped me focuse, but my teachers would just take it away, like MISS that thing was helping me give it back-
