I'm a HOH teen, and I wear hearing aids. I love seeing your interactions and you two inspire me as deaf role models.

Beautiful video! Well said. It took a while, but I have to say it ended up actually being a relief when I finally lost the last of my hearing. I felt pressured to keep that last bit and stop failing hearing tests. Now I can relax and learn sign language. If I go to a rock concert with my cochlears, I can stand right next to the speakers, feel the bass, and dance!

Your videos are SO helpful for some many reasons. 1. I’m a speech therapist and learning sign language on the job at a deaf school (which can be terrifying) so these are really helpful for strengthening my understanding. 2. I am always looking for ways to understand a little more about my students. I’ll never fully understand but I can be open to learning. All this is me saying thank you for doing what you do 💜

I love to watch your videos because me as a H.O.H. child who is almost deaf and who continues to lose their hearing it’s a good feeling to know that some people go through the same issues as you do

I am HoH as well! I was born hearing, and when I turned 9 began to lose my hearing little by little. I am almost 20 years old now and my loss is on the line between moderate and severe. I wear hearing aids, and they changed my life. They don't make it perfect, I still need captions and listening devices in movie theaters and people to face me, but I get by. You are not alone, and I am happy you are speaking up about this! I watch their videos so often to make me laugh and to relate. I also have a HoH blog on Facebook! H.A. Perks and Probs! You may find it funny :)

I have my ASL final exam tomorrow so I’ve been telling myself I’m binge watching your videos to practice my receptive signing but I really just think you are so funny and amazing! I also want to thank you for being such a clear signer! It really helps me learn

I love ....love...love your show!! Keep up with your goal to educate everyone especially certain people who are trying so hard to identify themselves like "hearing as God". You did a super job!!

Incredibly refreshing to witness this! I can just relate to this so bad. I am finishing off my BSL 2. I was debating about not doing level 3, I feel so deflated after level 2 and it is so expensive but after seeing this, I think I will push myself to continue. I was deaf from birth and faked hearing for the whole time, this is now a habit I struggle to break. I don't even know I do it until I get home and feel isolated. It's nice to be reminded that only I know my communication. I am preferring sign with speech at the moment (but not SSE) but I felt this was wrong because I only ever see people sign without speech even though because I don't know enough sign yet I find it easier to have someone speak and sign and I even find it easier to show over saying what I mean.

You are not alone!! Thanks for sharing this! I used to have a problem with signing and speaking. I thought it was rude of me to do that since there is a lot of history with people forcing deafies to speak orally. But signing and speaking helps me learn the signs and makes them stick. It has become my way to practice sign language in my life every day. I live in a hearing world and there is not a big Deaf community where I am, so I sign and speak. If I lived in a Deaf community with fluent signers, I'd sign and not speak. Whatever you are comfortable with, do it. As long as you stay signing :) Jess

Thank you & Rikki for all your hard work in making these videos for us! I enjoy watching all of your & Rikki's videos. This one hit me hard. I needed to be reminded of these things; being someone with CAPD. I tend to "fake it", but have lately been trying hard not to. Y'all have encouraged me to be me (difficulty understanding speech & all) and to continue learning ASL. Thanks so much!

These videos are so eye opening, it was always so easy to turn a blind eye. I almost want to learn asl to make up for being so inconsiderate of those who are deaf or h.o.h. + I have a crush on Jessica now 😘

The videos you two make really help me push on with learning ASL, I would learn,quit,give up,then learn more and now I'm starting to remember more. I've only been h.h. for a couple of years so it has been a big readjustment in my life. I love sign but learning it can be tough,but I wont give up.

I'm late deaf, and I'm the same age as Rikki. I connect with both of you so much. But specifically Jessica when you started to tell yourself stop pretending like u understand what's happening!! I am extremely guilty of that and do it ALL the time. Especially in social settings. If I see ppl laughing I'll just be like oh yeah ahaha...and in my head I'm like okay wtf did they say? I'm still in the point of having no idea who the fuck I am as a person or having a deaf identity or what idk I have no clue. My hearing loss started at 21 and like I said I'm 26 now. And I have no hearing in the right ear and very little in the left. So I am mostly deaf. But I'm still at the point of bs'ing social situations. Sometimes I wanna ask, and I WANNA be like hey can u slow down. But I just feel embarrassed so blah blah enuff babbbling lol sorry. Love u guys 🤘🏽💖✌🏽

I am right there with you! It is such a hard habit to break! Sometimes I do it without realizing it exspesically when I just don't have the attention span at the moment. But I WILL BREAK THIS HABIT!!!
@lyndseynicollemusic3262
@lyndseynicollemusic3262 6 лет назад
Rikki Poynter yes! It's like a subconscious thing. I just do it, until the convo gets to me and then I see everyone looking at me and I'm like aw shit time to come clean "sorry I'm deaf I don't understand".. 😑😶 and then they all look at me like bro lol why u didn't say anything!...idk maybe I'm just being my usual overly analytical self

Jessica Flores dude me too!!! I legitimately have the attention span of a two year old child. I'm like "oh yeah cool I totally get that, sometimes I really think it's better for everyone if y-- GLITTER!!!" 🙃🙇🏾‍♀️✨💖 lol no joke
@JessicaFloresLimeMoney

HAHAH! Yeah I think another reason why it can be hard to keep up in conversations is because a lot of people say too many words to say one thing. Like they will say, "hey at like 5 I am gonna go get some apples and some groceries from the store do you want to come with?" when they really can say " hey I'm gonna go to the grocery store wanna come with?"
@lyndseynicollemusic3262
@lyndseynicollemusic3262 6 лет назад
Jessica Flores omg I know!!! That’s why have the time I get confused, and I’m just like at that point “I’m sorry reverse and imma need you to say that again!” It’s a puzzle for me constantly in my brain because I have to pick out the important words, and then put it together in my head based on like 737373 diff factors 😂 it’s a whole process 🤯🤯🤯🧐🧐🧐🤨🤨🤨

I was wondering if anyone had any advise I going to go to high school next year and I have been looking into Deaf schools but my parents want to keep me mainstream any ideas on how I can talk to them about how we can agree on something
@JessicaFloresLimeMoney
@JessicaFloresLimeMoney 6 лет назад
Hi Ana!! Hope all is well! Maybe ask them if you can go check it out with them and they can talk to the teachers and staff members at the schools? Or perhaps try emailing the schools and talking with them about this? They might have better ideas since they probably are more experienced when it comes to parents not wanting their kids to go to a Deaf school

Jessica Flores thank you so much last night I spoke to my parents and they totally were down with the idea at first they where a bit iffy on the subject but about 5 min into the conversation my parents said it’s not a bad idea if it will really help you in the long run I look up to you and Rikki so much and am even thinking about starting up my own RU-vid channel that way we can raise more awareness and so people understand that young people like you and Rikki or even younger people can be hard of hearing or deaf 😄😄

So hearing people learn other languages, have you ever considered - once you're more confident with ASL - to learn another sign language? I know Auslan, so I need subtitles for your videos, but I've been thinking about learning ASL too.
@JessicaFloresLimeMoney
@JessicaFloresLimeMoney 6 лет назад
HELL YESS!!! I got the BSL alphabet down and a little bit of FSL. So once I am fluent I definitely want to learn more!! :)
@charliev4156
@charliev4156 6 лет назад
That's a cool thing to try. At the moment I'm actually learning Auslan as well(I live in Australia) as a hearing person, for communication purposes with people who sign as well as because I am fascinated with the language.
