My rats LOVE the Variera (plastic bag holder) - and I got it from the exact same IKEA you went to! So they do sell them. They pick that over literally any hammock or sleeping area, it’s amazing!

I'm the same when shopping, 'hmm, but would the rats use it' is my first thought. And I'd seen those scarf holders before on other videos and never knew what they were! And I love the shelf idea might have to do that! And and and...!

I've had the tie/scarf holder for YEARS that I got when I was obsessed with scarves but no longer use. Got my first rats last week and it was the first thing in the cage for them lol

I feel like rats are probably he best animals for people who are incredibly interested in animal enrichment, I love this animal.

I use the Fangst hanging storage but I cut beneath each circle to make seven chill-out zones for hot weather. The circles can be easily hung using 4 pear clips pushed through at the edges. So that's 64 pence each. And they also wash clean really easily.

I've never even seen an Ikea store other than on tv. To me it sounds like a legendary, magical land like Wakanda or Oz. I have seen it on tv and movies all my life, but I'm not sure if it's actually real or not. The closest one to me is in Houston, Texas, over seven hours away.

When I was little (like around 7) I was confused as heck of why they sell rats and mice and thought that it was weird, scary, and kind of like idk gross I can’t think of the word, now years later and 4 months of research later I am begging for one and think their adorable

You could also use a kallax as an enclosure/cage for mice if you add plastic and mesh. Also, what paint do you use?

3:20 you should try carabiners. They are much more stable and hard to lose. Also cheap. You can usually buy them at a tool store. Maybe Ikea has them too, idk.

can you go into more detail about how to protect untreated wood? you mentioned that you'd paint them with a safe paint but what type of paint is that?

All of these products are really cool! Except for the variera. I know it has worked for some people who have smaller rats, because their rats just go through the holes easily. But for other people their rats have gotten stuck in the holes when the rats tried to get into the tube. It could be good if the holes were covered with something, but just bare it could be very dangerous. I personally would not risk it, or watch my rats for a while when they first had it in their cage.

I literally think the same thing with my pet mice anytime I go to a store!

Sorta Waste bin - To preserve the nutritional content of your dry food, I think the best option is an airtight container? Would you store the whole batch straight in there or would you portion different mixes in jars or something and just store them together right there?

the sortera bins aren't airtight right? Is having an airtight seal on dry food for rats beneficial or does it not really matter?

Hey Emi! I have a question about the Ikea bath mats, my rats chew on it a lot and as a result little balls of fabric let loose. Especially when doing the laundry, so there are little balls everywhere in my washing machine. Also sometimes there is a lot of hair en the washing machine smells after washing their blankets. Do you have advice on washing their stuff? Thank you!
