THINGS YOU SHOULDN'T SAY TO A READER 

"What's that?" ".... It's a *book* " They start reading over my shoulder. "*gasp* is it in Spanish/English?!" (depending on where I am) "Oh my gods, no! Can't you see the hieroglyphs?" ~~~~~~~~ "Ugh, that book is terrible, why are you reading it?" "Have you read the book?" "No, but the *movie* was terrible." ~~~~~ "Oh, you're reading Percy Jackson! I love it!" "Oh my gods, you've read them, too?!" "No, I watched the movies. Did you *know* that Percy's actual name is PERSEUS?!" Acting like an expert. "Yes I did. That was one of the first things that happened in the *first book* " ~~~~~ "Ugh, please stop reading and talk to people." "Yeah, there's a problem. I'm allergic to humans, so....." ~~~~~~ "HELLO?! I'M TALKING TO YOU!" "and I'm reADING, CAN'T YOU SEE?!" ~~~~~~ I'm crying because of someone's death. "Why are you crying? It's *just a book* "

My classmate said "You should just watch the movie, that book is terrible" and I just replied with "Have you read it?" She said "No, but the movie was terrible" and then my friend gasped along with me. Yeah we don't talk anymore.

Percy Jackson... I work in a bookshop. Whenever I recommend that series to a customer I also tell them to NOT watch the movie.

"Stop buying books" "You have enough books now" - Yep! All the time, along with "Why don't you just sell your books? Or give them away? They're just taking up space" or, a personal favourite - "You know you're in here reading about something when you could be out there, in the real world, experiencing it" - Right of course, sorry! Let me just hop into my Wardrobe and pop to Narnia for a cuppa with Mr. Tumnus! What's wrong? That's not possible? Then let me read about a world where it is and experience it through them! Sheeesh!!

my mother keeps telling me to read the all the books I own before buying others. I think she doesn't get it 😅

Just the mention of the Percy Jackson movies causes me to almost cry.

An error message popped up after they suggested you watch the movie instead of reading the book and I can't stop laughing. I don't care that I need to refresh the page now, that's just hilarious to me.

I hate when people tell me that I should go and experience the real world instead of reading. SO l should go to the empire state building. Ask for the 600th floor in the Empire state building and fight Kronos. Also to go to Scotland and run through in between a platform, so I can go to Hogwarts

The only book I would say is ok to just watch the movie instead of the book (which i do love the movie and the book equally) is The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The reason why I say its ok is because the director of the movie is also Stephen Chbosky so he knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he made the movie and no one should try to tell him otherwise.

I'm still friends with my ex who used to make me get rid of loads of my books. She visited today and it's the first time she's seen my book shelves that my boyfriend lovingly installed for me. My friend who I’m trying to slowly seperate from, HATES it when I read. If I’m reading at recess and lunch she’ll take my book and lock it in her locker, or she’ll pretend to pour water all over it. She might take my glasses. I cannot read without them unless the book is really close to my face. She will complain to me. She’ll ask me questions and interrupt me reading. Worst of all, yesterday she bring a spray bottle with water to school for the specific reason that if I were to start reading at recess or lunch, she would spray me, and the book. This book is a library book, if she spray’s me, my glasses will get covered in water and then I can’t see out if them very well. And adding onto all of that, most of these things she’s said to me. I hate it how everyone, not only this friend is so mean, rude and harsh to me because I’m reading.

I'm an ELA teacher and I always start off each year asking kids to stand if they enjoy watching movies or tv. (They all stand). Stand if you enjoy playing video games. (Most stand). Stand if you like stories. (Most will sit down) Stand up if you don't lie. I'm like most of you just lied. You said you like movies and video games, but hate stories. Which is it? Because movies are just stories acted out and video games are stories you control. If I pick a book and start reading to my class, they will get really into it. It's when they have to do the reading they all of a sudden hate. I read them the real version of Sleeping Beauty and they all said they want to see that movie... I'm like... uh you can't. It hasn't been made into one. Everyone likes stories... some just don't have the ability to sit or really understand when they have to do the reading on their own.

Actually, one of my favorite things to do in the world is take a pillow and go sit next to the pond near my house or in a tree and read a book. There's just something special about combining nature and literature and sometimes music
