Saw 4 bakfiets in Hoboken NJ tonight with all sorts of cargo! 2 had random furniture items, one had groceries, the last was hauling 2 children. Very versatile vehicles!
There's a lot of arguments here where people are pushing back against this because of the need for larger materials, but a large majority of if jobs never need most of the equipment in their trucks. That inventory often stays there moving around the cities and country side for months.
This is certainly true to an extent. I feel like for most tradespeople, they're vehicle is going to be as close to them as possible at all times and you can get a cargo bike a lot closer to the job site than a service van.
i carry multiple tool sets // computers all worth 1000's when acquired. i never have a clue what set will be needed for a particular service call. time is money so a half hour /hour trip back and forth to get the right set & missing a specific screw driver or bit just sucks. now a service call has a 4-5 hour min for possibly the simplest task. also i need to have the tools secured so they don't walk.
As a heavier rider, cargo bikes can deal with more weight; having a higher payload capacity. Benno is so far the best designer in combining several bike styles into one with also a high payload capacity as a Hybrid Cargo e-bike style.
Dumb thinking when you don't have all your tools on hand, can't carry lengths of pipe and timber, or ladders. Also, time is money. The hourly rate requires a much larger service call because of the time lost in transit.
Well... That particular is very bad idea. If you are electrician, plumber etc your tools/working material are worth more than the car or bike. The problem start when you need to leave tools or materials under the location of work. Theft or rain. There are mayor flaws in idea.
Sounds very freakin good!!! BUT… a semi truck can pull hundreds of thousands of pounds but I wish it could replace everything.. what you described about technician etc makes a lot of sense!
