I was frustrated when I got Thinkpad T495 today from the organization! It was a used laptop and hence the condition was just the same as shown in this video. I am glad that I found your video, could have never imagined something like this. Thanks for making my day
Dude, this is insane. I had some shallow but nasty looking white scratch on one of my studio monitors with black mate finish (I did it accidently while moving), tried everything, it just stayed there. I watched your video thinking "there's just no freaking way it works" but what the hell, let's try it. IT'S GONE. Completely. I can't tell now where exactly it was. I did all the surface to freshen it up, and both monitors look like brand new. Thank you.
i did the cream and it works well, but only use a little bit, like half of what you see here. i feel like even after minutes of buffing and drying and buffing,my cover still feels ..... emollient. i can still leave a finger print behind
@@TheEtherealNebulous i still use this nivea cream, but much less than pictured here. you want something with the microcrystalline wax in it. the silver and blue tin will not work since it is water based, and this is wax based. i now use an alchohol wipe after the cream application . its amazing how much grime comes off with the cream and alchohol
It's ironic because I have a can of nivea sitting in my dresser for six months because the damn cream won't absorb into my skin and I look like a ghost, but i recently got a t-series thinkpad that now has a few light marrs on it, not enough to warrant a polish but enough to use the cream to make them go again. I'm going to try it now, i'm sure it's going to work wonderfully. I never noticed that the thinkpads had specs in the surface until i was carrying mine outta the office at night and saw silver specs in it bouncing off the light. awesome video.
You ****MUST**** Put a cloth or a A4 paper between the Screen and the Keyboard first before doing anything. Otherwise, you will get a good cover but bad screen. Cheers
Really fantastic! thanks for sharing some good tricks. Let me share one with you, put a cloth under the laptop so it won't move around when you polish it.
Awesome video. Question: I have X1 Carbon's Gen 5 and up. Is it safe to try it on those? Since the surface is really soft kinda rubbery. If so, only the top covers or can I do the area around the keyboard & the trackpad as well?
it's gonna clean the surface nicely, but don't expect miracles in terms of removing scratches. Laptop in the video doesn't have any real scratches on it.
help what to do if my x230 got scratches so deep the metal layer is visible? i just bought class A refurbished x230 for 300$ and under stiicker it had scratches to metal
Great video... Although I would love to know how do you do that in the bottom case and the screen bezel on the inside without effing up the screen. Cheers#
Nice choice of music. I would maybe think about using some kind of paste wax (furniture or automotive polish), but would never have thought to use Nivea cream. How did you come up with the idea? I wonder how long does the laptop keep smelling nice? My W530 and X230 lids are not too dirty but not perfect, I feel rather tempted to try out your method (I even have all the stuff on hand), on the other hand maybe it seems less attractive to thieves if the laptop looks old and scratched?
The idea comes from restoring automotive parts... people use peanut butter (no joke) to darken faded car plastic. There are some funny vids on RU-vid about that
Not really, sounds like rubber is fading, maybe in contact with some acidic component. You could try to use cream to unfade the rubber or return the laptop if you think it is a manufacturer defect.
What is exactly wet polish? do you mean the same polish I could use in my car? I ask because maybe where I live can be a different thing, so I want to try your method
Got myself a few free Lenovo laptops for refurbishing, going to try to clean them up with these methods. What's the "cream" you used? And what does it do exactly? Thanks for the video!
Quick question: The “Wet Polish” did you just use water or something else? I would like to know so i can start fixing the scratches on my laptop. Nice video btw really needed this!!
Panorama as a circle Thanks. I used water and did 2 rotations, unfortunately it didn’t remove the clouding. The cream helped a bit though. I don’t know if the clouding is too deep or it’s some kind of burning... That’s the way I received it.
You could try 800 grit to 1200 grit wet or dry sand paper velcroed to a block of wood. That's what I use on Plasti-Dip and Rustoleum paint to smooth out uneven surfaces.
AFAIK it's a melamine sponge. There are many trade names (magic sponge, magic eraser, etc), but they are all look like this - a white cleaning sponge, harder than your typical dishwashing sponge. You can find them online, in a big supermarket, etc.
hey how do i get the matt finish on my t440s keyboard? i wiped few keys with a tissue too hard and now it looks uneven with some matt places and some not
Most likely not because this helps for old faded plastic, not worn off trackpads. The T430 have stickers on the trackpad that you can replace unless you have a more modern laptop.
Pretty cool. Saw another guy using plasti dip. Guess you could do that if your case is totally destroyed. This is great to know as I'm "balling on a budget" looking for a work computer to replace my old t420.
It seems the black coating is gone completely? Depends a bit on the model, you can still do the same process shown in this video and if nothing helps buy a new/used top lid.
