It would kind of be a game changer for backpacking if they could get he weight down to even like 3-4lbs empty. But with the newer lighter stronger fabrics that are available now there's no reason it can't be close to 2-3 lbs. Aside from becoming a $700 pack! hahaha
I am looking for a camera backpack for weekend overnight hikes in the mountains. I am choosing between this bag and the WANDRD FERNWEH. I wonder if the Mindshift 50l can fit a Sony a7iv with a lens and a DJI Mini 3 Pro with a controller. I do not want to buy an extra cube as I need space for the rest of my things. I am also curious about the breathability of the back panel. It does not look as good as the WANDRD one. I would really appreciate your comments on this.
I've never put my hands on the Wandrd Fernweh but I did look up the specs. I think they are similar size and weight. Giving a slight advantage to Mindshift on size but also a point off for being slightly heavier. There are more similar packs like the Lowepro that are more similar to the Wandrd. With those style packs you need to remove the pack in some fashion to get to your gear. With the Rotation series you dont have to do any of that. You can grab what you need without stopping really. So it comes down to how you plan on shooting. When I backpack sometimes I like to shoot while walking or snap a quick shot. I found I take less photos when I have to remove the pack to get the shot. It really has to be worth the effort. I think the Rotation is also geared more toward overnight backpacking trips rather than longer day trips like the Wandrd seems to be. In terms of how much gear you can carry- I shoot with Canon but would assume it would come down to lens selection. If you roll with a smaller lens you shouldn't have a problem with the camera, lens and DJI mini. You might need to put the controller somewhere else in the pack but you'd be surprised at how big the camera pouch is on the 50+.
