I've had the u3000 for a few weeks now. I absolutely love it. My observations (minor gripes): The timestamp is way too small. I have a blinking security light on my dashboard which reflects in the windshield, and will trigger the RADAR parking mode every minute. RADAR mode also got triggered by clouds in the distance lighting up from a lightning storm. That was actually pretty cool. I'm peeved that in playing videos on your phone that you have not yet downloaded they won't play widescreen. Instead they play all squished up, even in landscape orientation. If you turn your ignition off while downloading videos to your phone the parking mode will turn on and kick you off the camera and stop all your downloads. You cannot resume where you left off.
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for the feedback, we'll pass it on to Thinkware as well. You should be able to play streamed footage widescreen, I'd recommend trying another phone for that one. I resonate most strongly with the camera going into parking mode and turning off the wifi, that can be annoying. Though, you may get an extra minute or two more out of it if you don't have the radar parking mode, as that setting does disable a wide range of connectivity features to stay energy efficient.

Thank you, as usual, for the excellent presentation. What amazes me is that there are plenty of RU-vid videos giving reviews about the Thinkware U3000, but they always leave out their tests and real-world experiences with the Rear Dash RADAR. After watching numerous RU-vid reviews of the Thinkware U3000, I'm puzzled about why the reviewers are skipping the evaluation of the Rear Dash Cam RADAR. They seem to just repeat what the manufacturer says, mentioning that the Rear Dash Cam has a built-in RADAR to detect motion or impacts, and so on. Could it be that they are just doing marketing for the manufacturer?
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
Hey there, glad you liked the presentation! When it comes to showing the Radar, it's something more difficult to show in-action while still making it interesting for Viewers, and many people are familiar with how it works, as the radar module option has been available for the front cameras of the Q1000 and U1000. Still, if you'd like in-depth testing on the Radar and how it functions, check out RCG530's extensive write-up/testing here: dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/thinkware-u3000-testing-review-rcg.49111/

@@blackboxmycar Thank you for your response. It is true that many people are familiar with how the U1000 FRONT Dash Cam RADAR works, but no one is familiar with the U3000 Rear Dash Cam RADAR, which is new. We are all excited about this feature and eagerly await a genuine review. It is not difficult to demonstrate how it works in action and to confirm to customers that it functions as claimed by the manufacturer. However, it appears that you were simply reiterating what the manufacturer has stated. Consequently, it cannot be considered a true "review" as the video's title suggests. In essence, the video seems more like another marketing piece aimed at engaging viewers. To accurately reflect the content, you may want to consider removing the term " IN-DEPTH REVIEW” from the video's title.

Nice hair cut, 7:35 that what happen to me yesterday the thinkware connected app said went into ultra saving power mode cause it was 90 degrees outside & probably hotter in the car no wonder you guys recommend thinkware for hot areas. I'm really liking mine there are downsides just sometimes the app takes while to connect to guys helped me out cause i didnt get the spliced cable to get parking mode for the powercell 8 sucks the basic cable doesn't work like that . Another thing the cloud is nice but having thinkware should've copied or something & made their own cm100 so we dont need to get a 3rd party hot spot

I feel both their apps need work but they're less stressful than blackvue's new version but wish thinkware would let us change settings wherever we are
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
Great feedback! It is unfortunate that radar parking mode disables the cloud, but is understandable given that it allows the camera to remain in a low power state, not possible when it's constantly connected to the internet for the cloud. Impact and motion detection would be a good option with the cloud, as it would given you notifications remotely if needed. It would definitely be very handy to change settings remotely with Thinkware, and it seems like a step in that direction as the Thinkware Connected app lets you power down your camera remotely! It's also helpful that settings can now be changed over bluetooth for Thinkware, much easier than standard wifi.

Can the front cam be mounted on a horizontal surface and just bring the angle of the camera down to level, instead of mounting on an angled windshield? I'm looking to center the camera flat on the underneath side of my collision avoidance equip on a JL Wrangler. I hate having my U1000 to the side, off-center.

If the U3000 is mounted on a purely horizontal surface, the front lens is angled up roughly 10 degrees. The angle of the camera cannot be pushed further down, only about 60 degrees upwards.

Great informative review. How easy is it to swap to another vehicle after a car lease expires - 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe? And do you think there could be a potential for any warranty issues from a dealership?
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar 6 месяцев назад
Yes, you can swap to another vehicle once a lease expires, but the difficulty of this will depend on how hidden of an install it is. Generally speaking, it's about half as difficult taking it out as it is putting it in. As for dealerships, normally there is no issue with a dashcam, but it's ultimately their discretion so do consult them.

This sounds great. The only thing that is preventing me from pulling the trigger is I'm not technically savvy or a diy person so I wouldn't know how to install the rear camera. @blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
Glad it sounds great! The normal installation process does involve us routing the front/rear cable through the headliner. I can't give too much exact advice without knowing the car model, but there are plenty of installation tutorials on youtube here. As for finding someone to install for you, most reputable car alarm or repair shops should have no issues installing a dash cam, even some Best Buys do it, but that's more hit or miss. You can contact our support team (info@blackboxmycar.com) with your location, and we can check our database of partnered installers to see if there's anyone nearby.

@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar 3 месяца назад
Glad the review was helpful! Rest assured that connecting a dash cam for parking mode to your car battery is the most common setup for a dash cam. The camera has voltage cut-off built-in that can be configured as needed, preventing the camera from drawing all that much power from the car battery. With that being said, there is some wear and tear that can be felt in the long-term, that comes with any battery discharging when the vehicle is off. This will only be felt after many years of running such a setup constantly.

Is having a higher resolution at 30fps better than 60fps+ at 1080p? If I need to get a clear image of the license plate of a moving vehicle.
@blackboxmycar

That's a great question. The good news is that you get the best of both with the U3000, as it's base resolution is 4k@30fps, but you can switch to 2k@60fps if you prefer. 4k can help in busier, lower-speed situations, but higher fps can help when you need to pause things frame by frame, such as sideswipes on the highway. Thanks Joseph, Just to give you an update....yesterday I was speaking to the Thinkware rep and he told me that they do not have the powercell 8 - Only the ivolt Xtra and ivolt mini. He also said the ivolt Xtra could only be connected via the hardwire and fuse box whereas the ivolt mini can be connected via the 12V cigarette lighter which does not require a fuse tap and fuse box connection. Simply just plug and play. I really like this plug and play method as I prefer not to go into the fuse box. But then its a tradeoff between the number of hours, no usb port connection, no app and no further battery connection if required in future with the ivolt mini. So not sure why they do not have a cigarette lighter connection for the ivolt Xtra. Anyways, does the Powercell8 have a 12V cigarette lighter connection? If yes, would I need to purchase any additional wires etc for connecting with the U3000? Will this battery be suitable for the U3000 front and rear dash cam and will the cigarette lighter be OK to draw the 12v current to ensure the powercell8 battery is fully charged as well as the original car battery is not compromised in any way with the cigarette lighter connection? Please advise, thanks!

Dude what battery pack do you consider using with the camera system? And where will the battery pack be wired to on an 2021 BMW M235i? Cig. lighter fuse using a splitter? Will the rear and front cam be wired up to the power pack?

I recommend the PowerCell 8 battery pack, a reliable and high quality battery. The front and rear camera will be wired to this battery pack, and you can use the cigarette lighter fuse, as long as it has sufficient power for the battery pack, which normally needs 20A-30A worth of power. As for wiring into a BMW M235i, that should be relatively straightforward. If you can't fit the battery under your seats, you can put it in the glovebox, as we've done for this installation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K0IuGLGd-N8.html

In the US, Insurance companies are offering devices that connect to the OBD-II port for a discount and some of us don’t want to mess with direct connection to the fuse box on a leased vehicle. T-mobile also offers a WI-FI puck that connects to the OBD-II port, so for people that already use this port, it would be of value to have another connection option. Just an idea… Thank you for the great review! 👍

As the Thinkware U3000 uses the same power cables as previous Thinkware models, all of our existing cables to connect battery packs to Thinkware cameras will work just fine!

Sorry to hear that has been your experience with the A139 Pro. The Thinkware U3000 does have much firmer cables, along with a receded port in the rear camera, so the wiring will be much more reliable. As for the connection, since this camera is mainly bluetooth, that allows the connection to be much more seamless, and much easier.

Can you explain how the new OBD plug works for parking mode? As far as I know from other dash cams , in order to use parking mode the dash cam has to be hardwired to the fuse so the battery doesn't die. Does the OBD replace that all together? Thanks!

No problem! The OBD cable will replace hardwiring altogether. The OBD cable communicates with the vehicles electronics to notify it when the vehicle turns on and off, and there is built-in voltage cut-off, which is controlled through the Thinkware app in the exact same way as the hardwire kit.

1. To use the Thinkware U3000, you'll need the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app for the basics, and then the Thinkware Connected app for the cloud. The Thinkware Connected won't need a barcode from this unit, but will instead rely on a MAC address, which you can get from the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app. 2. If you are dedicated to the U3000, running 2 cameras in the same vehicle is possible, but even then, this model does not have an IR camera, designed for recording the interior. So my question is, if I connect the U3000 camera with a hardwire kit or if I use an external battery, like the ivolt Xtra or Powercell8, which will actually require me in both of the above cases to connect to the fuse box and this will eventually give the U3000 camera a constant power source alongwith having an internet connection inserted in the usb port of the battery, will I be able to see my car LIVE remotely from any location even when the car is "SWITCHED OFF"? Great question! The radar sensor for the Thinkware U3000 Dash Cam uses radio waves, not X-rays, to monitor the surroundings. Here's why it works: the radar sends out radio waves, which can indeed pass through windshield glass. When these waves hit an object, they bounce back to the radar. By analyzing these reflected signals, the radar can determine the distance, size, and movement of the object. This is how the U3000's radar can effectively monitor your vehicle's surroundings, even through the windshield glass.

I just installed my U3000. Nice quality! Some thoughts: The voice feature is a waste of computing space - you cant hear it talk to you if you drive listening to the radio... The placement might end up behind your rearview mirror - the buttons on the camera will be hard to reach - you'll have to always move your mirror - since is has Bluetooth, a remote of sorts would be nice. The "Dash Cam Link" app is very lacking - I cant seem to get it set to my time zone - UTC is the only option??? I must be doing something wrong. The owners manual needs more explanation of what all the features are. The lane departure feature seems to be a waste of computing space also - The camera stays on when plugged into the cigarette lighter when the car is turn off - dose this mean I don't need to hardwire to the fuse box for parking mode?

Thanks for the feedback! Let me address some of your points. - The voice feature can be a bit quiet, but can be made louder in the settings - A bluetooth remote is a novel idea! Thanks for the feedback - The time zone should be fully controllable in the settings of the Dash Cam Link app. I understand that there's definitely a learning curve to apps like this, so consider checking out our video on it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JczwkEqpNtE.html - I agree that the manual could expand on the settings/features more. We wrote this article to expand on some of these options: www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/our-recommended-settings-for-the-thinkware-u3000-4k-uhd-dash-cam - The lane departure warning does need to be calibrated to your specific vehicle in the settings, and the viewing angle has to align with the live-view angling guides. - The Camera SHOULD NOT be powered to a cigarette socket if the socket stays on when the vehicle is off. Parking mode will not work and the camera will keep drawing power. Consider hardwiring or using a plug-and-play OBD cable. I hope this helps!

@ThomMurphy

@blackboxmycar I understand that. But Blendmount and a few other brands have already made rear view mirrot mounts. They simply make different adapters to accommodate different devices. The rear view mirror mounts themselves, for different cars/mirrors, are already designed and available, for the most part. What I'm suggesting isn't as complex as designing a new rear view mirror mount or highly customized device mount, such as Blendmount's prior Blackview device adapters or even their radar device mounts. Rather, it may be the simplest device adapter yet, a simple plate that (screws into the rear view mirror mount and) allows for the (3M) adhesive pad to be adhered to it rather than the windshield. Something like that could accommodate these tamper resistant adapters and a wide range of, typically, windshield mounted devices. I would think BlackBoxMyCar may have enough influence to have Blendmount consider such a plate or, failing that, could develop their own. Heck, a handy individual could buy Blendmount's BM-SP-0004 or other such spare part, cut a plate to size, bend it in a break, drill some holes, do some black anodizing, and have a very popular product. I'm thinking Blendmount would be better off making such a plate, or plates, available rather than having some other entity bring it to market, but if they won't maybe y'all should...

@11:00 that sucks man 😔 I really wished i can use live features whilst rader is ON
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar 6 месяцев назад
It's because of how energy efficient the radar makes the camera, while those advanced live features draw significantly more power, making the radar redundant. You can still use these live features when in standard recording mode though!

So dose this camera record all the time I am driving? Dose it record if in a accident. An is there button I can press to activate it to store video immediately? Saw some buttons but no over view. Not going to lie no one has actually did a in depth of the functionality. Just talking about specs. Spec's sound awesome. I know this is for seasoned das cam users an I'm new But I needed to know how it functions. Anyone got links to a better review. Also can I hook up multiple cameras to the side if I buy more then one camera for full 360 view of car.
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the feedback, I'll answer your questions here. Yes, the camera by default will constantly record while you're driving! If you get into an accident, it will automatically detect the impact, and bookmark the footage as such, placing it into a special impact folder. Yes, if you'd like to manually store a recording, you can do so through the big red REC button on the back of the unit, which will bookmark the footage as manual recording. You aren't able to connect additional cameras to this system, it is only a 2-channel system.

@@blackboxmycar because you answered my questions I'm going to buy this system from your website. Your a great sales person. But hopefully you guys come out with a multiplexer for this unit. I would pick that up if it ever comes out. People are carzy these days an I love my car enough to invest in security for it. One more thing dose it require a paid subscription? Cuz some people said the app had parts you had to pay for and others said it was 100% free with purchase. Also are you a authorized retailer? Cuz the manufacturer warranty on the product says I have to by from a authorized retailer. Also do you have extended warranty/protection plans if I buy this product?

Not sure if you guys checked your review unit, but i think my rear radar isnt working as well as the front. It almost never get triggered, i can get it triggered after walking left and right for 20-40 seconds. Thats no longer helpful in my opinion. i saw a couple of amazon review saying similar stories. ☹️

One huge missing feature. The front camera does not have a backward-facing CABIN view? I know the rear camera swivels around. But what if I want to record myself and my passengers or I want to record valet drivers with their faces showing, making sure they are not misbehaving or whatever! I should not have to choose between having a rear camera and an interior cabin view camera :-(

It's definitely a very premium model! This is largely due to a lot of the all-new tech inside the camera such as the image sensors, cloud features, and the largest factor being the radar sensors built into both the front and back. If you're looking for a more economic model, consider the VIOFO A139 Pro for the same level of image quality, or the Thinkware Q1000, their 2k model.
