I dont know if this a bit late but When it comes to enamels More specifically testors (the one's I have) Metalic enamel + mr color thinner= smooth Non metalic enamel + mr c thinner = thick paint Bonus Metalic enamel + mr c tool cleaner = clean Non metalic +mr c tool cleaner = goop If you ever need to clean an airbrush run enamel thinner tru first then mr c tool cleaner For some reason it brings up all the residue that the enamel thinner missed without making goop

I would agree, testors /model master enamels work beautifully with mr color leveling thinner, I use hardware store brand lacquer thinner and acetone to clean between colors

Most paints are acrylics, as I understand it. There is this tendency in the model building community to refer to water based as "acrylics" - This gets people in to trouble, fx when they mix alcohol with Valllejo paints... I hope soon all model builders will refer to paints by medium (solvent) so Vallejo would be water based paint, Tamiya 23ml would be water/alcohol, Tamiya Enamel I think is miineral spirits and MR. Hobby cellulose thinner. MR Hobby Levelling Thinner is great, and I think the nozzle of H&S Airbrushes help to avoid clogging, they are bigger and I imagine that helps keep it from drying too quick

it turns vallejo paint into goo. i havent had good resluts with that and acrylics.

A year later, this is why I came here. Vallejo primer turns to thick goo with Mr Color, for anyone coming for the same reason.

Anyone know if this thinner works well with Model Master acryl ?
@machomodelz3954
@machomodelz3954 4 года назад
That's a great question. I would say "yes," but I'm not entirely sure. I think it's similar in chemistry to the Mig stuff I showed. However, just taking a stab in the dark and always be sure to test, test, and test before you spray anything on finished builds!

Can you tell me at what ratio did you mix the splash paints primer with the mr. Color leveling thinner and I'm guessing you didn't use the activator it came with. Corrrect....
@machomodelz3954
@machomodelz3954 5 лет назад
Hi! I mixed the Splash primer at 1:1 however, I’ve moved on to using exclusively Mr. Surfacer 1500 for my primers. Check out another one of my videos titled “the perfect primer” for more info. Thanks!

On amazon I’ve seen that Mr hobby also makes a Cleaner but is the leveling thinner just as good as the cleaner by mr hobby to get rid of paint/airbrush cleaning? Also what psi do u recommend for shooting primer/colors ?
@machomodelz3954
@machomodelz3954 4 года назад
Oh, just use 91% alcohol for cleaning, don’t waste your lovely thinner! I start at 18psi and adjust from there. I typically adjust down, less pressure to me means more control.
@scottvaldez6699
@scottvaldez6699 5 лет назад
Instead of mixing the leveling thinner into a little cup with surfacer can u just add the leveling thinner straight into a jar of paint ?
@machomodelz3954
@machomodelz3954 5 лет назад
You can but, I don't recommend it. I've had a number of paints "go bad" when I left thinner mixed in the jar. It could be for a number of reasons however, I feel like I am playing it safe by mixing it in a cup.

I would suggest dont use pippete for paint extraction from mr.surfacer primer. Cleaning that pippete is hell. Fine filler particles from primer will stick inside pippete and then its very hard to get it out.

Good to know! Do you use pre-thinned paints or just drop them straight into your AB and start painting? Admittedly, I just started watching another channel where the builder puts straight Mr. Surfacer 1500 into their AB with no thinning, so I'm curious, thanks!
