Can we just take a minute to appreciate that most of these systems cost $200 and $300 new, and we can now emulate most of them perfectly on a $20 board that fits in a pocket and can run for days on batteries that wouldnt even turn on the original systems? Leading and bleeding edge tech steals the spotlight, graphics cards with higher resolution than the human eye can see, pulling more and more power, throwing off enough heat to cook over, with ever higher price tags. I find the leaps forward made by this "back end" of SBCs and emulation to be far more impressive.
From my standpoint the excitement is not that I could go out and buy this, but that it shows that commercial N64/Saturn/Saturn mini consoles are technologically feasible.
I think the technical side of things is the easy part. It's the licencing of the games that's the nightmare and I believe largely the reason why we haven't seen a mini N64.
The Banana Pi M2 Zero is an ultra compact single board computer which measures only 60mm*30mm. Its external interfaces are the same as the Raspberry Pi Zero W, and it will fit almost all cases and accessories for the Zero W. It uses the quad-core Cortex A7 Allwinner H2+ processor, with 512MB RAM. wiki.banana-pi.org/Banana_Pi_BPI-M2_ZERO
Banana Pi BPI-M5 is the next generation single board computer from Banana Pi in 2020. It is powered by Amlogic S905X3 quad-core Cortex-A55 (2.0 XXGHz) processor.Onboard 4GB LPDDR4 memory and 16GB EMMC storage, and supports 4 USB 3.0 interface, a gigabit network. wiki.banana-pi.org/Banana_Pi_BPI-M5
The thing is that they don't generate a profit. It says in aliexpress description that for bigger orders please use the other listing, cheaper price only for 1pcs testing Or something like that
This is not 19 dollars. It's 19.00 plus 15 shipping on amazon for the 1gb, or 29.95 with free shipping for the 512 mb model on ebay. It's more like 30+ dollars.
you have the user manual or the datasheet of the Orange pi Zero 2? I buyed it, but dont found any information about the board yet... If you know how I can power on it without a USB type C cable and using a RCA video, I would love for you to tell me
Why on earth does it have an ethernet port when it already has in-built Wi-Fi? What purpose would that possibly serve? Especially when you're probably looking to get this device for something small like a handheld, so it's just big and wasteful...
This is a serious little device. The way this runs God Of War rivals many of the mid range handheld devices I have. And N64 is very good. Impressive for such a low price. And I agree, someone needs to make a cheap handheld with this. Take my money🤣. Awesome video👍🏾
The actual reason is that it's manufacturer, Shenzhen Xunlong Software, is subsidized by the chinese government. Because china sees the value in growing that industry domestically. Orange Pi boards are sold at cost of BOM on aliexpress.
@@DrCognitive Well it's not $15 shipping if you order it direct from shenzhen xunlong on aliexpress. More like $4. I personally feel like it hasn't been shown that H616 boards are substantially superior to H3 boards like the zero plus, but support for the mali gpu in linux is getting a lot better lately with the panfrost project.
First of all... "love your videos!" Being able to play so many nostalgic games (PS 1 and N64) in a such affordable advice, masked me very happy. Thanks for all your work and please keep going with that! ✌️😁
@@MrReddragongamingHD they can run at 4k without upscaling... i highly doubt they were at 4x resolution... you see there is difference between stretching the original resolution to 1080p and actually rendering the game at 1080p
@@IcoKirov Yes I realise the difference. But look at the Jak and Daxter gameplay, or even God of War. No way those games are rendered in the original resolution, they have far more detail and visual clarity.
@@MrReddragongamingHD yeah, that's why i said they looked upscaled. but i cant see how this board will struggle so much with others like n64 and dreamcast, sega saturn, but be able to run psp upscaled to 4x... also he said it can run the 30 fps games well, which means it would struggle on the 60. but if they were upscaled, then just dropping the scaling would make them run good... so i'm confused overall. i mean they could be upscaled... but...
Well that's my mind blown. I just spent £160 on a LarkBox Pro, which utterly amazed me, and this thing isn't far off what it can do at a tiny fraction of the price :O
I totally agree I think when I subbed you were around 20k? and it just keeps going up cause of the quality of your testing and you make it easy to understand for someone like me who went to voc/tech high school and took Cisco systems curriculum way back after the turn of the millennium and now I work with the other Sysco cause I'm a cook lol cause I found networking so0 boring lol
Brilliant review Taki! I was completely blown away at the capability of such a small profile board. Both audio and visual capability are exceptional. Considering the price, this unit has boundless potential for all manner of projects. 👌😎
stick it to the back of your monitor (using scotch tape?) and you have a doable entertainment system. And it's probably exremely low power too. I wonder if it takes 1 or 2 days to make the money back on your electriciy bill alone.
Great product, but I would pay extra for a 2GB or even a 4GB version. 1GB of RAM is very limiting in this day and age, especially if you use Android 10. Debian works fine with 1GB of RAM for sure, with no multitasking in mind.
I can't, but have you tried Radio Shack (or JayCar, depending on which country you're in). If you don't care about looks and just want a case for protection, try the lunchbox / cooking utensils section of the supermarket and look at the plastic containers with lids. You'll need to drill some holes for cables and I/O ports. I'm sure someone makes specific cases for these, but that's the quick way out.
I never had a console but this thing. I can play my favorite android games for 20$ . There is one game that isn't going to run well but Im sure that all of us can agree that this is AWESOME.
Wow, that's one hell of a value. I'd interested in building some sort of DIY handheld with this. Need to do a lot of research first tho. Maybe you wanna make a video about DIY handhelds? 👀
I hope someone can help me! i can't get android installed on a sdcard. i use PhoenixCard 4.2.3 from their website, and a 64GB Samsung Evo sd-card. When Phoenixcard starts to format etc. i got a bunch of new drives in windows. maybe i am stupid, but can someone please HELP me!? i allready contacted orangepi a few days ago, still no reaction. Please Help!
Hi Taki, I am trying to flash Android 10 to this board, the manual says to use Phoenix Card v4.2.8 but provides no URL and searching for this is impossible, how did you get yours flashed?
Can you review the Orange Pi 5? I've only seen 1 review on RU-vid. Not sure why no one is talking about it. Seems pretty decent. I've seen the 8GB model available for $79
Personally I wouldn't be interested in this. I already own raspberry pi 3s and 4s. Furthermore I can run emulators on my phone and laptop for that matter. I'll just stick with my raspberries when I want to play with an SBC. Raspberries have better support and more accessories.
That's insanely cheap. I even managed to save an extra $4 on shipping with promo codes on AliExpress. Its barely more expensive than a Raspberry Pi Zero W, yet comes close to Pi 4 performance.
Damn this looks great, do you think it's worth getting or do you think it's worth waiting a couple months for an even better handheld for example? I've been wanting to get a new emulator device but they seem to get "outdated" very fast.
This reminds me I still have Pi3B+ awaiting a RetroPie install for some sweet, sweet PSX games. I wonder if Dreamcast would work on 3B+ now, as you are saying 4 had problems with it.
Olha, eu instalei o Android na minha. Mais não consegui fazer nada funcionar direito nela. O Retroarch não baixava os Núcleos não. E a maioria dos programas exigia o Google Play Service. Não sei como vc conseguiu emular esses jogos ai.
Why does it always seem that people constantly try to make these little computers seem good to have .if u can only play mobile mine craft or select games then why Even bother . Just buy something that's bigger than something the size of a credit card
Good video. Do you know if the oled panel is from Samsung or LG ? I own the Gigabyte Aero Oled high-end laptop, the screen is impressive, Pentone Calibrated, but not touchscreen. Does this monitor equivalent to Aero Oled screen ? (if you experience it) I think, there is one thing important missing ; a tilt or gyroscope inside the monitor. this is a must have option for android phone connection if you want to use it like a tablet . (on aliepress I saw monitor having it, in 4K touch, but not oled lol) DO you know if a 17 or a 24inch oled monitor will be on sell ? Thanks for your review
Ugh, it seems that these cheap boards are always sooo close to doing N64 well, but just not quite enough. Perhaps in 1 yr we can see a full 5th gen emulation board? This is more like 4.5 gen :)
You'll have to wait for those cheapskate Socs to start using more powerful A55 cores. A53 is so ancient it's almost insulting. (2014) whereas A55 is only just replacing it in smartphone Socs. It will take a while before it's cheap enough to be found in $19 computers.
N64 is incredibly difficult to emulate. It really didn't have a conventional GPU at all. And uses lots of framebuffer effects which are computationally expensive.
This looks like a good sbc.. If they get the 64bit os, I'll definitely look into it. It's a massive savings over the RP4. I may just get one for giggles and to experiment with a bit. Love the emulation potential of this too.
they wont orange pi knockoffs are not known for good software support... half the board count with double the software support would be a deal on orange pi side but noo just sell boards with old linux images and always create new ones :-/
Qual é o app que eu uso para instalar e configurar o Android 10 no Opi Zero 2, alguém poderia me ajudar? Thank you! What app do I need to configure Android 10 on the Opi Zero 2? Once installed, via the pen-drive, thank you!
Hi, can I ask how you installed android? I tried using the image provided by the official website but when I power it up nothing boots up, just a dark screen (the board led stays red)
Pihole can run on a much more affordable board like the original OrangePi Zero. I have it running with Armbian. If you only will run PiHole, you can consider the version with 256MB of RAM. I have a second OrangePi Zero with Transmission & DLNA Server to stream trough wifi to my Smart TV. Due the great results with them I bought a OrangePi Zero2, but Linux images from OrangePi are very old and bad maintained; I’ll try with Android 😉 and wait for Armbian releases for it.
Looking good! If I'm not mistaken the next project from 8Bcraft is using a similar if not the same board. www.kickstarter.com/projects/8bcraft/retroblock-2-the-comfy-retrogaming-console/
