Just go ahead and pronounce it *Stay* Green.. that's what the employees at Lowe's call it. :) They also have a new synthetic under Sta-Green that has humic and kelp. I LOVE IT!
I see you're using a handheld spreader to spread the Sta Green fertilizer. What setting did you set the spreader? I have a Scotts EdgeGuard which according to the bag is set on 6. The bag doesn't list a setting for a hand held rotary spreader, I use a Scotts HandyGreen II. Do you know the setting I have 400 sq ft of lawn and the bag is good for 4000 sq ft.
Love how several of you lawn channels are collaborating together! There's plenty to go around so propping each other up is better than cutting each other's throats! Great work and great content! Thanks for the tip on the new fertilizer!
Typically, Milogranite does a good job! Did you use the right amount accordingly to the size of your lawn, and is the soil compacted that's preventing the nutrients to absorb into the soil? Check your soil! You may need to dethatch and aerate your lawn.
I love this video so much! A few years back I talked about not being a fan of milorganite & boy did I get flamed! So glad for you sharing some real facts & great presentation!
Thanks Chris! i remember first hearing about humic and kelp from your summer stress video many years back, seems the big box stores are catching on to your custom mixes 😂
Wait so now if i use milorganite, I’m gonna start getting fungus? I live in New Jersey, and the local municipality makes a product that is equal to milorganite for 799 a bag called Ocean Grow They currently use this in addition to the private fertilizing guy that I use. I also spray see kelp humic acid in super thrive from the heat stress video from silver symbol. Should I stop using morganite?
Another former Milorganite user here. I've used Sta-Green for 2 apps now and I'm getting very nice results. I use it along with soil softener, and Root Ruckus.
Thanks for letting me know about this new option. I respectfully slightly disagree with a couple of things, though: 1) The best way to determine if you should or should not be putting down Phosphorous or Potassium is with a soil test. Which leads me to: 2) My soil (North Georgia) is actually fine on Potassium. What I'm actually lacking is Phosphorous. 3) You may actually find that any given fertilizer has trace amounts of lead and/or arsenic. 4) I have no issues with Milorganite being made from biowaste. It's actually digested by microorganisms, so it's not really like spreading manure on your lawn (even though plenty of gardeners use raw manure in their flower beds). It ends up being rich in carbon.
When I used milorganite on my lawn I ended up with a lot of fungi in the lawn, and I had to use fungicide for two years to get rid of it. I had three types of fungi. This year no sign of it at all. I used Sta Green for the first time this year and I'm really impressed. Great video hands down. I have to say I will never use milorganite again ever.
Interesting that you mention that. I had a similar issue and tried to determine the cause as this was never present before. Ended up using a general fungicide too and problem seems resolved.
I’m glad you guys mentioned this, because I have been using it for years and I have come to realized that I was getting fungus on my lawn, plus I have been kind of reluctant to apply a fungicide and this just reaffirms it! Thanks guys!!!
Same thing happened to me! Had NEVER had an issue with fungus until 2018, first year of doing Milorganite. 2018 and 2019 my lawn was destroyed, and I basically had to renovate it. It turned nuclear orange. Also, that's the first year I was using the lawn striper. I've ditched that as well.
Omg my notification Bell is garbage Jesse just told me you had a new video today!!! I love it bro!!! Before I started liquid fert I was using STA Green every other month I love this brand!!! I’m gonna have to try this bag for sure!!! Great video 3 of my favorite channels here!!! 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for including me on this one George! Another note on Milorganite, it has forever chemicals in it. Im VERY hesitant to put it down because of that reason alone! Great stuff bro!
Happy Fourth of July man!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 I'm 14 and really into Lawn Care! Channels like yours helped me out to get nice green grass! Ever since I was a kid I've always loved Greengrass. I'm even thinking about making lawn care videos. Anyway God bless you and your family and happy Fourth of July hope it's a good one!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Sea kelp is awesome. I did an application with sea kelp, humid acid and a vitamin liquid. It cost me too much but as a one time experiment it really did make a difference.
My grass consultant (neighbor who is head of grass maintenance at Mooresville golf course) told me to use the sta+green 8-0-2 natural stuff, at 1/2 rate every week and it's worked phenomenal. Seriously I was incredibly thankful and impressed.
Ive been using humic acid, sea kelp, fish fertilizer, on my front yard and it looks good i still have some bad spots along the sidewalk. Every time i would water along the sidewalk since my yard slopes down to it the water would just run off the grass and down the road. After using a lot of this stuff the water now just soaks into the ground. I saw the lawn amateur on RU-vid using 32 ounces of humic on his yard ive started using 10oz of each on mine its starting to look even better my front yard is about 1250 square feet.
Having Humic in it is the biggest plus to me. I put 2 bags of Humic DG on over all of last year but didn't see much for results; until this spring. Fast green up and the soil was just, well, fluffy. Holds water much better than ever before and it's a sandy soil. During the dry hot June we had I didn't have to water that much to keep it green, you really can't have too much humic. I'll pick up a bag and try it out.
Happy 4th George! I just spotted the Sta-Green when I was picking up some of the Lesco fert that was on deep sale. Can't beat the Sta-Green price especially if it performs well. I'm a firm believer in Humic, biochar and kelp- it takes probably 6-8 wks, and you'll notice that your lawn just looks vibrant and healthy, especially when if the early season enthusiasm inputs are backed off. And when everyone else's is struggling during a drought, yours will stay green and dormant. I had a brand new lawn that stayed dark green well into January while here in NJ, probably because of my ongoing amendments into the soil last summer.
Thats a plus for sure, but the amount of Humic Acid is pointless. I believe 0.6%? Probably just a way to capture the end consumer by mentioning Sea Kelp and Humic
I been using sea Kelp for years in my garden, it really makes a difference on drought tolerance.. I used Milorganite and banded it in corn rows along with other synthetic fert, the corn looks amazing!.. In the past, I was using Weaver lawn fert and triple 13 in equal amounts on the lawn because Milo was just tooo expensive. The lawn looks great using more Phosphorus and Potash with lower inputs of N.. good to know the Sta-Green fert has comparable ingredients to the Next products. I been using the Sta-Green tall Fescue turf seed, I really like the darker green color.
I hate and LOVE watching your channel. Did my POS lawn get better? Absolutely! Does it take some sweat and more sweat? ABSOLUTELY. Did I see results? ABSOLUTELY! Thank you for your videos! I have learned a lot!
I used it for the first time this spring and I give that fertilizer A+. This is the first time in many years (I have used many different fertilizers) that my grass has been a deep green longer, the grass looks healthy and has been handling the summer heat much better than before. I am a believer and I wish you had never made this video, so this fertilizer can keep a low profile and not run out or go up in price. 😩
Good stuff will have to try it. Humic I used, results take a while to appreciate, not a 2-3 day thing. One day you'll notice lawn is looking strong, and have that ah ha moment. Kelp, I've used on flowers, they like it, healthier and stronger, fit you could say.
I like to see what new products are coming out, right now the Lowes in Salt Lake does not carry what you have introducing. The three numbers Nitrogen phosphate potash are only part of the tale to keep your lawn healthy; you have to have the right product with the right numbers and don't forget the micronutrients iron, magnesium, manganese, copper and Sulphur. Depending on your soil where you live, elevation and what is already in your soil just settling in on the newest fertilizer may not be the right for your soil. Have a sample of your soil sent for analysis. I have to choose a lawn fertilizer without potash since the soil in northern Utah already has enough. When I had my soil tested at Utah State Agricultural college I was slightly low on iron and nitrogen. To keep my lawn green and growing at an elevation of 4500 feet and dry hot temps I also have to gut my lawn at 3.5 inches high during June July and August. Look around for stores that specialize in selling fertilizer to landscapers and professionals and see what other products may better work for your soil. There is probably a college near you that leans agricultural that may have recommendations unique to your area and elevation.
Good fertilizer. Some points to add: 1. 12.8% nitrogen is from Urea. So only around 3% from organic matter. 2. potash is from SOP which is better and expensive than MOP. 3. kelp and humic acid is only 0.5% 4. no iron in it. so you might not see wow green effect from it.
It's because it used to cost like $8 or $10 per bag over 5-10 years ago. It was super cheap for the performance. They probably can't manage their costs, so it's priced the same as regular fertilizer now, if it's applied at their recommended heavy rate.
I got off the milorganite train two years ago after getting my first test results back. My phosphorus levels were sky rocket high. There’s only one benefit to using it and that’s that it helps you get used to spreading fertilizer without the fear of burning your lawn, however, it’s not a long term product.
Here in zone 9 with 80/20 perennial rye/Kentucky blue, my go-to fertilizer is Scott's with a bit of Ironite added. Super fast green up that lasts a few months
@PrincessCutLawnCare, hey george, i went to Lowes to get a bag of this, but then right next to it, there was another Sta Green Natural Fertilizer 14.4 lbs, was also $25, but its 3-in1 Fertilizer, 8-0-2, and when you compare, this bag has more sea kelp, more humic, and 6% iron. and the 14.4 lb is good for 4000 sq ft, while your 25 lb is for 5000 sq ft. take a look and compare. more sea kelp, more humic, more nutrients, more iron. price is obviously higher but looks like its well worth it.
Thanks for another great video George! I almost choked on my breakfast when Jessie came on. 😂 You guys are the best!! As always, great informative content. Keep up the good work, and I love the salute!
Now I am heading to Lowe's to purchase a bag of "Sta-Green"! Trying to obtain MILOGRANITE has been a Challange in my Western Washington State region for the past 5 years, I am just hoping that the "Sta-Green" lives up to y'all's reviews...
Milogranite is plentiful here in Toledo. All the Home Improvement stores have it in stock, even Walmart. Have you thought about ordering it from Amazon?
Great video as always. As for the Kelp I did an application this year and honestly wow the results have been great. Grass looks great and I've noticed that I don't water as much.
I think most people don't realize how much they affect the fish in the lake next to them with what they put on their lawn. Same for big farms, but it all gets washed down the drain and off to the river or lake it goes.
Great stuff George. I always like mixing it up. I know some people find a product that works and they just stick with it. To me, that’s boring. Part of the appeal of this hobby (for me anyway) is trying new fert, tech, processes, etc. Like Eddie Murphy said, sometimes you gotta mix in a Ritz… those Saltines get old 😂 I’ll be snagging a bag of this for sure.
I have noticed Lowe’s and Sta Green has some good fertilizers. A little more eco friendly. All the chemicals and toxic fertilizers are killing the biology in the soil. An awesome lawn can be achieved without going toxic. Appreciate the video!
That $25 Sta-Green bag covers 5k sq ft the Milo bag ($23 here) covers only 2.5k and it smells, especially in large amounts. That said, I'll still use the Milorganite to guard my plants from critters, they hate the smell.
With fertilizer end goals are a huge thing. P high is blooms and reproductive. Turf is not a high user like a vegetable garden or grain field (assuming no clipping removal). K is general health and roots. Very needed by all plants. Some soils are abundant some not. N is green growth but excess amounts and rapid release are nit required for turf. Grain crops are using more and more humic acid. Its has many benefits but it is a longer term play. I have a supplier making a shrimp product called catalyst. Most any organic material is good for turf. If compost was affordable it would be great to add an inch every 3-5 years.
Great video george and kudos to u for collaborating with the other guys on ur video🤙🏽it shows me that sharing ideas and results are the most important and u are doing that for us. I already have my milorganite and have used it a couple times this season but gonna definately take a look at the sta green as the milorganite has gotten a little too expensive🤜🏼
Just found your channel - great content - superbly produced. Enjoyed the Dave Chappell clip! Appreciate all the great information you provide, and the insightful comments from your loyal fans.
Hi George! Seeing your channel 1st time but I just also sub'd. I live near Houston, TX, and have San Augustine grass here. I'm really having issues with the grass plant leaves turning yellow in spots. Could I have a potassium deficiency? And if so, Milorganite won't solve it? Just bought my 1st bag of Milorganite to use, ever, but I think now I will switch to the Sta-Green. Love your channel, as my lawn and flower beds are a huge part of my life. Thanks for all he helpful ad5vice & suggestions. I will be watching your older videos , so I can catch up!
Hello friend! thank you so much for the sub also thank you for explaining to me what the pfas chemicals are as far as the yellowing goes... i would have a soil test done to see what, if any deficiencies you may have
This is a zero phosphorus 16-0-10 where milo is a zero potassium 6-4-0 product, so they don't compare exactly, still would use milo for a reno and seeding. This would be useful approaching or during summer and when there are phosphorus restrictions, and would give you some potassium that a lot of fertilizers lack. It has urea, feather meal, potassium sulfate in addition to sea kelp and humate.
I found sta green a couple of weeks ago and I can't wait to try it (been using more expensive stuff). The ingredients look great. I also have the same hand spreader as you - what product setting do you associate with on the fertilizer specified settings? I tried to get Scotts to respond but they weren't any help.
Geez, now I gotta go to Lowe’s now, with still having 6 bags of Milor in the garage…. 😏 Edit; so I ended up getting it that weekend and laid it down. (Bought 4 bags) Geez, the 2nd week… my front lawn looks AMAZING!!!! I’d say 180 degree turn around, my front lawn was pretty sad, now it’s so much more Thicker and lushes, HUGE difference than Milor. I’m so happy, THANK YOU GEORGE SO MUCH!!!!
@@golf231971 I have tall fescue, the kelp and humid acid in it does miracles. I’ve been slowly stocking up on it. Lowes new packaging is 20lbs now, if u can find the 25lb bags, get them before they’re gone!
Thanks bro! Always dropping fire knowledge! I'm in Texas and that heat is stoopid down here so I mean I have to water a lot but I have the greenest lawn in my subdivision. I'm going to try this new fertilizer and your video convinced me.😎
I'm 100% buying this from Lowe's now... I'm still low in potassium, sea kelp is great stuff, and throwing down lead in my yard ends today. I had no clue until this video. Thanks George. Milwaukee can keep their toxic shit! 😂
@@willzee88 he didn’t show any results though my friend. When I first started out, I blindly purchase whatever my favorite RU-vidr said as well, and I ended up with a lot of useless stuff in my garage.
Awesome videos ! Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge as it’s been really helpful for someone like me who is just getting into the lawn game. Since I’m in Massachusetts was wondering if even at this time of year can I spread the tenacity /superfectant on crabgrass that’s coming through? ( I wasn’t able to put down a pre emergent this year i I planted all new seed around early April … thx again man!
The primary nitrogen source is from polymer coated urea, which means it's not organic. The other ingredients are however. Feather meal, blood meal, wheat flour, pelletized gypsum, sulfate of potash. I wouldn't put it in the same class as Milorganite, and it might grab some Milo customers, but I doubt it kills Milo, lol. That said, it's good to see other companies finally starting to offer more natural fertilizer sources at a semi decent price point. We need more of this.
Great video! The price is still pretty high - in Canada the 12 kg bag is $43, but I can get 25 kg bags of 24-6-12 slow release and other similar fertilizers for just $50, almost half the price.
Sta-Green quit making this product at this weight!!! They now sell it to cover 4,000 sq ft for the same price as when they sold it for 5,000 feet. This was a great product for the price but to cut it down 20% for the same price is a money grab. I hate companies that do this, so I’ll find something else.
40% Of all prices on consumer products is CORPORATE GREED.... THANK THE t Rump's HUGE TAX BREAKS, For The WEALTHY.... emboldened them to GET GREEDIER DURING one of America's. Toughest TIMES.
Thanks to your video I went out and got this and threw it down last week. Wow. Just found my new summer fertilizer for here in Denver. Fantastic results. Just awesome!
I would have liked to see a close up shot of the label of ingredients on the back of the bag. Lowes site does not have it either. *hitty marketing or something to hide?
Definitely over the Milorgranite train hype 😅because of how expensive it's gotten.. I would use some of it on shrubs and trees too which was beneficial, can you recommend it is safe to put this Sta-green stuff on them also?
@@PrincessCutLawnCare Thanks George. Since it's slow release, it might take a week or so but it's looking more green. I can't wait to see it dark green.
I’m surprised you didn’t add a ‘Milorganite killer?’ graphic on the thumbnail 😅 Half of the time I see these videos, I wonder if people are trying to cut the demand for Milorganite so it’s affordable again. The other half, I hope lawn RU-vidrs realize all of their hype videos drove up the demand and prices of Milorganite in the first place. Like many lawn products, it has its place but isn’t the only answer.
