"Includes paid promotion." Not saying there's anything wrong with that. I'm glad to see the RU-vidrs I like get paid. Just curious what it means for the opinions expressed in the review.
I believe glen is very honest about his opinions even with sponsors, that’s why Gibson won’t sponsor him anymore, he gave an honest review and Gibson didn’t like the things that he was saying
If you don’t trust the person reviewing the gear the the review is worthless in my opinion. Glenn seems like a trustworthy dude, he’s really blunt when it comes to gear.
Glenn, Paul Third did a full test on this. In a piece of analyzer software that he used he proved that it isn't another board sample. The eq matches the CLA mix hub exactly. It is the same thing with a little different saturation. I would get the mix hub, way better for work flow. Check out his video an see what you think.
yeap , Paul is Becoming a Headache for some Developers hehehe , I thing is good because the Scams sometimes they pull are not cool , at the same time people learn and they have to step up there game ,
Yes, a must watch video to show what a rip off Waves is to its customers. Just basically release the CLA plugin saying it is the improved 4000E but really they just fixed a bug and added a couple small features. Whooptie doo. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xIXbPPXLXL0.html Not to mention that the video is funny as fuck too!
yeah waves are definitely playing catch up to UAD and plugin alliance (and SSL too). i'd love to see you do a shoot out between SSL and waves. competition is awesome rn and waves definitely stepped up their game a lot with this one! I'm happy with UAD and PA though.
EV2 uses about the same CPU as mixhub lite. That is about 0.3% CPU on a i7 11700. Not much at all. It does use about 10x compared to the 15 year old SSL channels because that's how software works
@@SpectreSoundStudios Well don't do it on my account. I can't tell the difference between my Brainworx SSL and my Waves SSL so I'd hardly think I would hear a difference between the two Waves thingies. It's a good idea for a video though. I'd love to see what you make of it. But how does one smash a plug-in with a sledge hammer?
@@SpectreSoundStudios You get Waves plugins, a year later you want to get more waves plugins but your current Waves Central is now out of date so to get the new plugins you have to update. Once you update the licenses for your old plugins become out of date and unless you pay to update your licenses your old plugins don't work.
Waves and SSL Native make the worst SSL emulations available. Brainworx, Slate Digital, UAD, Softtube and Acustica Audio all do a better job. Making the drums much louder than the rest of the mix would usually be a great trick to sell some copies of the plugin, it worked in your SSL Native video, right? This time the drums sound so choked I can only hope your followers aren't fooled again. Saying the sounds are ITB whilst you play them through an outboard compressor for the duration of the video is pure smut. Pretending the Waves plugins aren't always on sale is laughable. These people trust you.
Had a chance to work on an SSL for some years like 08-11. The studio I was at got it from the Olympics production people as they were upgrading. Man, I tell you they should have kept that console.
Man I'm bummed, it wouldn't work on my mac High Sierra in pro tools 2020. I ended up with the Brainworks SSL for $29 for my Cyber Monday treat. Your tracks sounds rippin BTW!
How much more CPU and ram would using one of these compared to the built in reaper 1073 eq? Like if I had ten running on a project it would really start to add up?
Ah yes, the butthurt IS STRONG in this comment section... let's be real, who of ANY OF YOU will even get to touch a real SSL strip? And what will happen if that SSL strip you work with doesn't sound like the plugin, and every other one you try doesn't sound anything like any of the plugins? Existential Crisis? Or me just laughing my ass off at all the keyboard warriors out there?
I bought the SSL Native channel strip and bus compressor plugins a while ago on sale. I'm not very experienced and find it a little confusing when a company has a ton of different plugins that all seem to be pretty similar. So my question is, why would you buy this if you already have another SSL channel strip plugin? Are they just slightly different flavours (due to modelling different hardware)? I'd imagine for someone like me who just needs some basic tools, it's probably better to just have one and don't bother buying a bunch of similar plugins? I doubt I'd notice much of a difference between this and the one I already have.
Slightly different flavours pretty much covers it, yep. Whenever Waves are involved, keep the emphasis on “slightly”. Using what you’ve got until you can reliably hear what’s not quite cooking is a good strategy man. Demo stuff if you get curious, but if you aren’t hearing a clear improvement, then you either don’t need it just yet, or you might not need it period. Hope that helps a bit. :)
Oh! Can we get a video on how to produce ACTUAL SINGING! I see so much about vocalists, I do Jwff Walkerish vocals, but I am a 6 octave Dramatic Tenor Operatic Metal Singer and neex to record myself. I tend to clip the shit out of mics due to my Dio, Dickinson, Halford voice coming out of my 6'4" 300lbs frame. I think a lot of people would like to see how to mix loud powerful Operatic singing. Thanks!
Hi from Japan! U love the channel. Very educational. Even if I can't keep up with all the "recording nerd" stuff, the one-minute instrumental music clips are a delight to listen to . . . musically, and sound-wise. Thank you kindly for everything!
Despite the butthurts, I thank you for this info. Got a DL from Sweetwater right away. I am two years into production learning and have to track everything from my own vocals, to playing my own drums, cus fuck programming. This seems like it will help out on every track I have to do. Thank you so much for your knowledge! I hope to return the favor with my own Gear RU-vidr Channel... I am in the Heavy and Weird area of Metal.
Hi Glenn! As a self taught musician that's looking to learning about drums and I have know way to ask without painting my back with a noob sign lol. To try and learn I got the MT power drum plugin at first, but it sounded so uninspiring I had to look at getting samples. I saw your suggestion on the Steven Slate stuff and luckily for my negative budget needs there's a free version! My question is how do I segment out the mic'd parts out? For example when I started messing with the MT kit it's going out to a single track with the midi beats laid out for the whole kit, and sure I can send to other tracks, but it's still the whole kit. Outside of contacting a real drummer, how do I get each track to receive just toms, kick, snare, cymbals, etc. so I can apply more of your teachings to learn more? Sorry if my question is confusing, but thanks anyways!
Glenn, I have plugins paralysis what else should I get besides the channel strip while this sale is here. There is so much to take in. I do not have any paid plugins and want to get the ones I will need to record. Please help
Waves plugins are great, but just so you know, that's the price that they charge every single day. It's always "on sale". You never pay more than $30 for most of their plugins. For Black Friday, they raised the prices and then said they're on sale.
How does it compare to SSL’s native version? I bought the native ones on sale thanks to you. I also got the EQ 2 from Sweetwater for $40 last month. I love the native ones I own.
Freaking love this plugin! Not mix related, but regarding your glasses, I’m an optician as my day job. You should ask your eye doc about dedicated computer glasses as a secondary pair. As much time as you spend editing and mixing it would relieve alot of the neck pain from trying to look through the bottom of your glasses. Love the channel! Thanks for all you do!
@@morbidmanmusic Yes I use Cubase Pro Stock plugins always, they are fantastic, and I always get the sound I am looking for and they don't tax my CPU but, sometimes I want to add some crappy $39 noise to a track no one is really going to pay attention to anyway. Stock Plugin's are so under rated.
Recently my drummer and I have been toying with the idea of starting our recording from scratch. This time around we want to record it ourselves as oppose to going to a studio. We already had 7 songs that only needed lead guitar and mixing, unfortunately with the pandemic everything got put on hold. It has really been a pain trying to get back into the studio having to work around schedules. Your video on why recording a full album is a bad idea had a huge effect on me and I suggested it to my drummer and he agreed. Your channel has just become an invaluable tool for me as I will be referring back to it as we go along. Very many thanks...oh MIND WISHING US LUCK?!? And a FUCK YOU to go along? Lol. Totally new territory for us, but we are willing to explore it.
Gleeennnn, would this plug in be good for someone who's using things like Rhino, Mammoth, and Superior Drummer? Would this be overkill with all the features they come with or could this be a helpful shape to the sound?
Thanks Glenn! I'll try this on snares too. I love this one on Guitar! Btw I love to tweak it's preamp knob instead of line knob. I feel it drives the track.
Dude get a haircut, we're not living in the 1970's anymore. Looks pretty lame in 2021 especially at your age. Not trying to be mean but when I see old dudes with long hair ......🤪
Watching your videos everyday is also a pain. XD! kidding, my dude. Your videos are becoming better and better. Keep it up and hope to see more live streams on mondays.
Ran it through plugin doctor literally the same as the old strip just sligtly different curves a tad more saturation and no eq cramping I'm kinda done with waves at this point.
@@PurpleMusicProductions well to me the question was "answered" and tbh this way how this was "blurred" is kind of sad to be..always thought Glen is kind of clear guy. For me I'd be rather told clearly - yeah this one is sponsored as I cant eat the yt likes, rather than what's the time? It's raining :D
I made a video on this plugin comparing it to the original channel strip and concluded it's not really worth it. It is incredibly CPU intensive and isn't really a big jump. Just get the Omni channel.
I have to admit that I'm a little bit sketchy on Waves Plugins. As far as I'm concerned, when you buy it, it should be yours for life. If you need to update form 32 bit to 64, that should be easy and free. I may be wrong on that last bit though. I've had some that just stopped working and it pisses me off. I did upgrade my Cubase DAW but that shouldn't matter.
< still a fan of your channel, jep I hear immediately the saturation of the 4000E series, I used it yesterday on a Kick-drum and the snare, will buy the SSL EV2 of course too, but I noticed SSL brought out a new native SSL 9000 K series themselves, I'm in love with the 9000J, but it's too fat for certain genres. But if you have a poor drum, put it in your drum-buss and crank up the low and highs and it won't disappoint you. That being said, it's unbelievable that you can own every SSL on a small computer. PS, hows the latency from this plugin? I cannot use it right now, because old iMacs are obsolete and unusable with Wave plugs, and I own quiet a bit, never activated. But working on a PC workstation, to get rid of the mac.
Hey Glenn, I really like how this mix sounds. I've been following your channel for a couple of years now but this is the first time you lost me. "We're mastering with the UltraMaximizer"???? Sorry but you're not mastering there, you're leveling it to -14 LUFS without making it clip, but that's not what mastering is, sorry. Anyway, I generally love your content but I felt that could be miss-informing a lot of people. Cheers!
Now that you mention it, this is a valid point in consideration of beginners. I understand that he is abbreviating "bringing the level up to a mastered lufs range for preview purposes" but not spelling it out precisely might be confusing to beginners.
Actually, it's the original Waves SSL channel(E) with elements taken from the CLA Mixhub (Widener, Line/Mic) made into a NEW PLUGIN with a new fancy GUI. It has been tested (and yes, it's the exact same), and awesome that your'e blown away from a 15 year old plugin with a new skin.. I guess. Classic Waves.
Thanks for the info on this. I just watched a video of a dude who compared all the newer Neural DSP/STL Tones amp sims to the old, free Lepou sims... the Neural stuff is not worth $149 lol.
When Glenn was soloing the kick, my wife came into the room and heard it. She does not know anything about recording, mixing or mastering. She said "What is that sound"? I said, it is supposed to be a drum. She responded with, "I don't like it. It sounds bad and it makes me angry". I did not like the kick either. It was pretty plastic sounding while soloed, but somehow, in the context of the mix, it seems to work.
