I won both a 27 year old Rolex Datejust and a recently acquired Pagani exactly like this one only in S/S. So far, I am VERY impressed with the Pagani. It's running about +4 secs/day, has already weathered quite a few hot showers, and a couple of bangs against things with no issues. Time will tell, but I gotta say, it's a lot of bang for the buck. It's kind of nice to not worry about ruining what would be a $10,000 watch new. Call me cheap, call me frugal... as much as I love my Rolex, at current price levels, I'll never buy another one (unless I win the lottery, lol)
Hey Jody, I had similar issues with a Pagani GMT and got on to Pagani, they were happy for me to send the watch back and replace, and even paid most of the shipping cost!
@@waris3732 I just sent them proof of the issues and offered to return it rather than just request a refund, provided they covered shipping, and all good!
FYI there are 3 micro adjustments inside the clasp where the extension is. You push the spring pin and adjust the extension up or down. I've found this gives me the perfect fit. Notice there are small circular divots above the extension on the inside of the clasp!
I adore my Hulk pd1650 and wear it often. I just got my Zolos Swordfish black sand dial in last night , and fitted the bracelet and wearing it today. Driving in the dark this morning and the lumen is amazing. Thank you for all the great suggestions. I have one last watch for the year that should be here by Saturday, and it's my first Phoibos Bronze 45mm that just came out in a limited number of 100 and I got it from Long Island watches.
These gold tone ones are a bit too "blingy" for me, but I do have half a dozen other Pagani Design watches in my modest collection - and I really enjoy each of them ))
I just got the black/gold... The bracelet is really good with no play... The bezel is excellent too.... I can't believe they manage to produce this level of quality at this price point... It wears super comfortable and looks really great with excellent detail.... Very happy
Regarding NH35 - I recently bought an escapement time flieger and it runs -3 seconds on the wrist and +3 seconds face down... So getting 50/50 wear time with it, after a month it runs just 1 second fast. I am AMAZED.
@@the1010watchclub The Casio Duros are quite big, right? IIRC I think that was the only reason not to instantly buy one after some reviews. Having tiny wrists sucks when great value watches like the Duro shows up.
@@the1010watchclub Thanks for the reply. I think 44 mm sadly would look kinda ridiculous on me. My SKX (42.5 mm) and Flightmaster (slightly bigger I think) work, but that's mostly because Seiko usually have really, really short lugs on their bigger watches. Too bad, I love Casio and this Duro seems insanely good for that little money.
@@ChrisDraussen I will add the Daytona is the worst performer. The hour and minute hands are weak in brightness through the night and become difficult to see. The Sub and Aquaracer are perfectly usable, not super bright but you can see the time easily👍
Jody have you looked into Festina watches? I bought a couple (F-20445-1 and F-20461-2) for $80 and $56 respectively. Both use Miyota quartz movements and the crown screw down action on the F-20461-2 is superb. Certainly much better and smoother than my Invicta Pro Divers. The F20445-1 has a push crown. Just one qualm though: the 20445-1 is a hair puller, but it looks sharp.
Based on your video about a year ago, I bought one of the 2 tone with blue dial versions. The gold color is still holding up well, with very few scratches. The weak points for me were the clasp broke immediately, but they sent me a new band at no charge. The lume is awful and only lasts a minute or two. Really, there’s not much to to complain about. It keeps time very well and looks nice. I’ll probably pick up a couple more during the 11/11 sale.
@@FOURTEEFIVE are you ever in a situation where you need it to last longer than a minute or two? Like do you actually dive with your watch? Serious question
I have the stainless steel version of this. I like the watch and it gets a lot of compliments. I have had a few issues with mine though, worst of these issues is the fact I can not change the date anymore (this happened at about six months). The other weird thing is the screwed links can unscrew, which has happened while wearing the watch a few times. The clasp too was so sharp edged and unpleasant, I ended up using a file to make the edges smoother. But I still like the watch, wear it almost everyday!
@@GP-jx3ex That's why i prefer pins, at least in the cheap chinese watches, because screws is a lottery. I don't wanna fear that my watch will take a fall out of the blue...
I always put a little dab of blue Loctite on the screws of cheaper watches (and knives) when I receive them. I've had too many screws come out in the past, even from "better" brands. You have to unscrew each screw one at a time, put the Loctite on the threads, and screw them back in. The Loctite keeps them from working loose, but can still be unscrewed if needed.
Ma first thought on the new Rolexes was: "Whow, Rolex is copying the Paganis!" But it is nice to see that Pagani managed to adopt the sleazy "Pimpness" of the original.
Two years later that 2021 Rolex price is quite interesting. Unless I totally messed up currency conversion, that date-Sub in steel was around €8,000 back then... today it's just over €10,000.
Mmm very nice. I share the same concern about brassing on the case side/crown/ bezel over time from handwinding. 40mm is still too big for my 6.5" wrist, and if the Pagani fits like other Chinese-made homage, the edges & corners of the clasp are going to cut everything they brush into. Which is probably why I'll stick with my "inferior" Invicta 28732: gold-plated SS, 38mm case, Seiko quartz movt (for the accuracy & no need to handwind/risk perpetual brassing). But good review! I'm glad there are still companies putting out gold-plated homages since $50k is a steep price to pay for a fashion accent.
Hi Jody, I had a look at a video showing how to oil fill a watch. I know you like to tinker, is that something you would have a go at as it does appear to make a significant difference to how a watch looks and reads.
Great review. It really does make you think deeply about what you’re really getting with a Rolex. Sure, the name and superlative quality and qc . But for $13k v $70? Outrageous really.
For the same price or even less (I got mine for $55) you can also get an Invicta Pro Diver automatic on Amazon occasionally when they are on sale. Although they copy the 5 Rolex case design it is IMO a better value because you also get the 2 year Amazon warranty.
As long as you can live with the logo engraved on the side. Otherwise the Pagani is a great way for a gold-plated sub minus over-the-top logo engravings
@MichelleZ I doubt it, rich people will always need something to spend their money on, look at Emirates airlines first class, $9k for a short first class plane ride, look in any major city $20k/month apartments can be found, greater than $100k autos are selling like hotcakes, rv's that cost as much as houses are selling out, etc...
I like gold watches. Especially when they have top quality red or green dials. In fact a red, green and gold 39mm Explorer watch with an ETA 2824-2 would be very rasta cool.
Love it, i need a gold and blue one. Without spending a tonne of money its going to be one of the better/cooler looking gold (coloured) watches you can get.
8/7ths is a fraction, too. It is Interesting that “fraction” has come to mean “ small part of.” It’s like “morph” has come to mean “change,” when it means “shape.” (Metamorphosis means change in shape.)
Just a suggestion, but for these Chinese dive watches, you should do waterproof test. Maybe demonstrate the water resistance by putting in a small tub of water and splash it around a bit and see if they endure the water resistance. Again, just a suggestion, cheers, always love watching your content 👍
There are channels which do that. Suggested - "I like watches" These cheap divers easily last for 4-5 hours at 6 bars of pressure and higher, which is great
That blue gold model looks surprisingly good! Then again I like that particular combination, so I'm biased. I wonder how San Martin would execute a gold "Sub."
Amusing review as usual, and wearing the Oregon T-shirt was inspired. Here in southwest BC we're experiencing the end-times of smoke from the OR and WA fires.
Pagani almost always punches above its own weight. Maybe you give that to Mr X? And damn. Those watches look clean, sir! Plus the fact that they're spec monsters as you said. Ever since I got a pagani, I can't justify spending >100 USD for a subby homage. Makes a great beater too.
Cheaper than the regular steel PD-1661...odd! I love that they made a 40mm with thicker lugs as I bothered them for, I'll need to get one when I can afford it!
I'm not a sports watch guy, let alone a diver guy. Sartorially, I'm stuck somewhere between Alberto Santos-Dumont and Cary Grant, which makes a datejust type watch the maximum of sportiness my wardrobe could tolerate. But for those rare occasions in which a sports watch would come in handy, I just ordered an all black Pagani GMT with that cool green hand. That should do the trick for quite a while... Thanks for introducing the brand to me!
Jody, you're a bad influence lol. I just bought one of these after your other Pagani video. Pleasantly surprised, though my crown is really screwy. After pulling it out, when I push it back in it springs back out unless I push really hard on it. I'm guessing they didn't install the stem completely right - it does work in each position but when setting the time it acts up. I dunno, anyone else who had a Pagani with an issue have any recommendation? I just received it yesterday so not sure if they'll ask me to ship it back (seems like it will be ages before I get it back if I do).
my one major complaint on this one is the coining on the bezel isnt real "deep" or as pronounced as the watch its homaging. Im all in on deep bezel coining when it comes to these chinese homages. San Martin seems to have gotten it right on theirs.
Pagani is apparently planning to come out with a few 40mm stainless Subs soon, which I'm thrilled for. Right now, they only have the gold ones, the black, the black with blue bezel, and the blue fade. However, the store told me they'll be doing a bunch more soon. And they hinted at brushed center-links, which I'm really happy about. I feel like polished center links on a stainless sub cheapen the watch.
Again, Pagani puts in the "standard" six-notches caseback, instead of a Rolex replica one. I like this solution: homages always risk to taste like fake, the more you get away from the original, the better (note: my personal opinion, my personal taste, YMMV and that's perfectly fine).
I just got a 10k gold-filled Hamilton Railroad pocket watch made in 1940 with the new and improved 992b movement. I'm bringing them back. You should get in on it.
Great video! I have yet to pick up a Pagani, going to have to pick one up one of these days just for the experience. Do not think my skin can pull off the gold tone, unless it's rose gold, maybe?
Puts that Rotary diver to shame for 1/3 the price. My rule 1 is never buy a fake gold watch. Looks amazing in stainless. Mine has been in the winder for a couple three months and the Seiko movement is still on the money.
Tip: There is nothing wrong with inexpensive jewelry. In fact, I am a fan of it. My Navy ring only cost me 300 bucks, and I just bought a Pagani watch, for example. I have some expensive stuff too...I am a quality shopper, not necessarily a price shopper and sometimes the less expensive stuff is perfectly suitable. That said, when choosing inexpensive jewelry ALWAYS opt for stainless steel or silver. Why? Because that will be the same material all the way through. It does not try to look like anything it isn't. If you go for gold plating, sooner or later, it WILL fade or chip off. In the case of really bad gold plating, it will turn your appendages green. The point is, sooner or later, the piece WILL reveal itself as the poser that it is. Stainless or silver...IS what it looks like, and does not present this problem. You can wear it for the rest of your life, if you so choose.
At the $75 price point..Guanqin or Pagana for a submariner homage? Both have same specs I think.. I know Guanqin has the typo but which is the better watch?
Nice watches for the price I too like the black and gold, shame they didn’t do a bronze and blue one. I line up bezels with a cheap laser levelling light and they are spot on, shame manufactures don’t do the same lol
I have the gold n blue. Just the cheap bling I was after. Is it possible that the “solid” links are hollow? I know they’re not folded but they really don’t weigh much at all compared with links from other watches, so I don’t know how they can be solid.
I'm in Australia like you. Is it reliable to order from that Ali express you cited? Any import to pay? Are the metal braclets hard to get off to put a NATO strap? ( I prefer NATO, though I know you're not a fan). Thanks. Great channel. ( Always take advice from a Scot. No one better :-) )
The blue looks kinda good but the contrast with the gold is just a tad too harsh for my eyes. What are your thoughts on the black and gold Pagani Daytonas?
Hi,Jody. Very good value watches. Could you tell me what amplitude is on your timegrapher please? Best regards from Adrian in Sheffield South Yorkshire England 😀😺
Nice Oregon T-shirt, Jody! If you ever fancy colder climes, you should consider it. :) I cannot imagine wearing a gold-tone homage. If you are going for the baller look, make sure you have the baller scratch, otherwise you tend to look...toolish.
Jody I went to the web site via your link to get the gold with black dial you just revealed but the asking price is $124 Australian. Any tips please for getting it at $70 US which is around $97 Aussie. Kind regards Rikki P.S Love the channel.
Put the black and gold in the basket. Can't get the voucher. It doesn't say why it just doesn't work. The only voucher available is for over £110 by the looks of it. It's sitting at $80 at the minute.
