That's still, by all technicalities, the correct take on things and it's the narrative we were sold when things were first being shut down, but then somewhere along the way we started being told that we could just straight up stop people from dying altogether if we just shut down hard enough.

@@myersa80 Thing is, that's kinda true, at least it slows down the virus enough to prevent mass issues in hospitals. The main issue is the hospitals can NOT become what they were at the beginning of this virus. That would totally stop our progress we've made.

@@Waskomsause If it were true then we'd see an appreciable decrease in hospitalizations, deaths, or even infections in places where there are heavy lockdown mandates, but both in localized as well as global stats some of the worst places to be are in places with those mandates. Here in the US there's NY, NJ, California, and a few others that are consistently at the top of the charts, meanwhile other states that had far less restrictive measures (or none at all like Florida, which also has a much higher elderly population per capita) while being basically middle of the pack despite similar population densities.

@@myersa80 that’s not a good argument dude. Of course those states have higher rates of deaths because close to 2/8s of the entire US population is clustered there. You can claim the population density is the same but it truly isn’t. Secondly, we have not had true lockdowns in the US. Look at countries that actually locked down like New Zealand, Germany, and many others. Their numbers went down because they actually had lockdowns where you couldn’t leave the house, meanwhile even with the strictest “lockdowns” in the US, you could still leave your house whenever you wanted. There was never a curfew (excluding places with protests) or anything like that, so to say that these places like CA NY and NJ completely locked down while others didn’t is disingenuous. Lastly, even the small “lockdowns” that we did do did actually lower COVID rates per capita when you look at a population as a whole, which is what epidemiologists do. It sounds messed up, but when it comes to pandemics, epidemiologists are not concerned about ever individual person, they are concerned about the population as a whole. Please try to not spread more misinformation, as there already is plenty of that to go around. Have a nice day😇
