Hey all! I had to stitch in a video of Kurt letting everybody know that due to several instances of COVID in the family, and both of us being sick, we’ve made the tough decision to cancel the livestream this afternoon. Man the van and box truck story made me laugh and cry my dad always had a Chevy Astro van for his work as a painter/commercial paper hanger and remember sitting on a 5 gallon paint or paste bucket as a seat 😂 miss him he pasted ways 10 years ago but he got me into bourbon our favorite was wild turkey or Ezra brooks lol
I’m in New Jersey and have recently visited Louisville but I have not been able to find a bottle of Eagle Rare for two years now. Enjoyed the show very much.
The Mrs. always does a great job with the perfect pour amount and the glasses are perfectly lined up. That's just class fellas. Curt, your habits are rubbing off with rolling your Glen to coat the glass. It works great and doesn't beat the juice to death. LOL

About two and a half years ago I had a pour of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year at a local bar for $25. Really good! Kroger in Kentucky is doing a Pappy raffle on 12/16. Wish me luck!
Boy did the van story bring back memories. My dad was a house painter and he always bought junk station wagons. Most memorable was the BOGO free you had to start with a screwdriver in the column. Great times. Thank you for sharing
The best part of the Channels videos is the dynamic relationship that you both have. I very much enjoy the interactions between you both. Great Job too you both & Mom! Idea: I would like to suggest a Brandy tasting as it brings some festivity with the holiday season.
Great video and IMO my favorite is always the personal stories. In this Ep. the rickety old Dodge Caravan. Definitely most can relate as can I rolling around in the backseat and floorboards of a dusty and dingy Oldsmobile beater on icy roads in Detroit MI in 70s and 80s.
We do tastings and blind rankings all the time and we have found that 5 is too many. They really start to affect each other and make it difficult. 2 or 3 at a time is what works best for us. Great video though!
I concur. I've found 4 is my absolute max, but if I'm torn and have to go back and forth tasting, then 4 can be too much, it all starts to blur together
Really diggin' that "ketchup" note 🤣 Had a pour of Old Rip at my local bourbon bar a couple months ago and it was great. Snagged a couple bottles last year and looking forward to sharing one with some college buds at an upcoming reunion. Also looking forward to cracking open the JD10 that I was fortunate to get at a nice price.
Bout 8 years ago when I started my journey I picked up a Bulleit 10 year to pair with a Cohiba Lancero my friend got for me when he traveled to Montreal. That pairing was the greatest thing I had experienced to date. Lol, oh how times have changed since discovering whisky reviews on RU-vid.
I want to thank you guys again for another great video full of information. And it’s great to see how well you guys work together. I hope that you all get better soon.
Great content, only thing for me is that when I see how long the videos are which are usually close to 30 min. I tend to choose not to watch, there's some stuff that can be cut out.

Nice competition! My Bulliet 10yr has notes you described in your widow Jane 10 and your notes on your Bulliet line up with my Widow Jane which has a mineral taste.
It’s like a crackerjack, not ant crackerjack but one that fell in the dirt, not any dirt but dirt from a farm, not any farm but a potato farm, not any potato farm but russet potatoes, and then it’s picked up, not by anyone but a cute girl, not any cute girl but one wearing latex gloves, not any latex gloves but ones that had been used to handle a lozenge, not any lozenge but a cherry cough drop and then she dropped it and it hit a 2x4, not a good 2x4 but a construction grade 2x4 and then stepped on, not by anyone, but a boy wearing rubber boots and there was a hint of smelly feet but he’s had a bath within a couple of days in non chlorinated water with a little tide. And I’ve never tried a crackerjack but it’s what I think it might taste like.
Not surprised to see how thing shook out, though the rip went higher than I thought it would. Really disappointed not to see the best 90proof 10 year, RR10 :(
Like to watch the laid back funny interaction. I have 2 sons who I get along with the same way, except they don't drink bourbon with me. I think I would enjoy hangin with you two. Kurt, I was a carpenter in mid Michigan for 34 years, retired 1-1/2 years ago. I hung and finished acres of drywall in my day. I think we could tell some great stories over some good bourbon. Really enjoy the content and do use your opinions for bourbon purchases.
I can relate to the van story. My dad used to pick me up after soccer practice in his crappy plumbing van. If there was ever a third person in the van, they’d have to sit on a bucket in the middle. 😂😂
I tried the Old Rip at a bar recently, and would agree with Trent. I prefer my JD10yr that I have at home. I didn't like it a first, but the bottle has really opened up into a nice pour. If I had the Old Rip at home to spend more time with, I might change my mind, but I don't. lol
@slbdrinks, as a kid I was embarrassed when my dad dropped me off at school in his '64 Impala. He also had a late 80s Ford Econoline with rusted through holes in the floorboard. I feel ya pain! 😂

Kurt, heard you mention coils...knowing you are in Indiana, did you used to work for Charter Steel? You mentioned the shipping department and I used to manage a fair number of shipments for them out of IN, MI, and WI. Small world if that is the case!
I loved a ten year blind. But I'd love to see a ten year blind against this years top competitors. Rip V, Michter's 10 yr bourbon, Old Fitz ten year BiB, and the Parkers Heritage Rye 10 year, and Michter's 10 year rye. That would be amazing.
Not everyone is going to get the same notes. I've never gotten tobacco or leather from anything, while other people frequently do. On the other hand I frequently get a note of butter, and a roasting ear note, and others get those very rarely if at all. Everyone's palate is different. However, practice does help. After two years I can get more than I could after one, and a *ton* more than I could when I started. 🙂
@robertmckay9863 I've been into bourbon for a couple years. I get some cherry or sweetness or spices on the nose. Can get the toasted or oak on the pallet, but marshmallow or butterscotch not too much. But I do enjoy it
@robertmckay9863 I've got a bottle of eagle rare I get some cherry on the nose. I'm usually all over the map with proofs. Not sure if that's why the tasting note problem but I drink what I like
Speaking of the ice cream, that would make a good idea for a bourbon pairing show. The pie show was one of my favorites, another idea for the future is BBQ pairing.
Bulleit is a great mixer...diet 7-UP really brings out some vanilla and cinnamon for me...really nice drink in the fall and winter, but as a pour it is not so good to me.
